Not really my kind of place. Restaurant is dated and the food is ok at best. I had the shrimp special which was a little misleading. It should have said popcorn shrimp special. The food didn’t seem fresh and the seafood is frozen then cooked. Not really what I expected. The bathroom must smell awful because there was bath beads in the sinks. Covering up a smell probably.

Barns has the best chicken fingers on earth! I have been eating here since I was kid and me and my family love it. I really have only had the chicken fingers but my family loves their fried seafood and salads. Honey mustard is also to die for!!!

Very good food! Got the rotisserie chicken melt and it was so good and so was the Mac and cheese. The carrot cake was very good as well. Our waitress, Sharon, was definitely on her game, she’s very good at her job!

This restaurant used to be great back its heyday. Now, it’s mediocre at best. The chicken is no longer tender, there’s way too much crust vs the thin flaky crust of old. A good thing to note is that they fry all of their fried foods together so this restaurant is not friendly for those with food allergies. I repeat, if you’re allergic to shellfish, I would take utmost precaution eating here. I wouldn’t recommend.

I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was ok. My daughter who is a vegetarian ate a salad, Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. She said the best thing she ate were the fries. My husband and son had the chopped pork, fries and cole slaw. They both weren’t impressed. I guess we should have eaten the chicken since that what we found out they were famous for! We won’t be back.

Did not eat in the restaurant but at a catered dinner after a funeral. So sorry to say that it was probably an embarrassment to the family… First of all the Barnes catering van ARRIVED after the funeral was over and the guests were already in the church fellowship hall waiting for the food… So starting out late is one thing, but when comments in the serving line are«what do you think it is» in reference to the two meat choices, probably that’s not a good thing. Basically we think that one meat was boiled chicken breast, with virtually no seasoning, and the other probably some type of dried out pork steak, maybe??? The only reason I am not giving a one star review is that the red rice was decent, as were the green beans. Really a disappointment for an old time Savannah restaurant. I would seriously think twice before allowing them to cater…

Great BBQ and a number of other unique options. Have eaten here for lunch a couple of times, and enjoyed the grilled brisket Reuben, and the chicken salad sandwich. If your looking for something on the lighter side go else where.

Best chicken fingers in town. We always order to go — honestly the restaurant is a bit greasy to go sit down. But order to go and enjoy. Awesome.

A pretty great dinner both times. Barnes has good southern cuisine. Not too fancy, not too casual. The food is good and the service is good.

Just moved to Savannah, have tried many BBQ places and this is hands-down the winner. Ordered take out, … chopped BBQ pork … tender, moist and cooked to perfection. Outstanding flavor. The best BBQ Savannah has to offer. Only had the pork and did not eat in the restaurant. Take out counter was clean and service was friendly. Will definitely be back for more!

I don’t know what all the negative reviews are about. My husband and I just had dinner here for the first time. The food was delicious and the service was awesome. Would definitely go back!

I had the chicken rotisserie melt, chicken salad plate, mac and cheese, and the onion rings. The onion rings were horrible!!! The chicken salad was okay… The chicken melt and mac and cheese was good!!!

When we arrived the table was sticky. At first we thought it was just one of those weird laminate table top that always feels sticky but after a quick wipe down with a baby wipe, it wasn’t sticky anymore. so I guess it just wasn’t cleaned good in the first place. The décor was odd. Just random signs in a plain font with Savannah Landmarks on them spread throughout the restaurant«Cotton Exchange», «Factorwalk», etc. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and my husband ordered a Brisket Philly. The pulled pork was huge hunks of pork, not pulled apart very well. Not awful, but definitely not in the running to be on my list of Top 20 pulled pork I’ve eaten(ok, that list really doesn’t exist but if it did, this wouldn’t be on it.). My husband’s Brisket Philly had American Cheese on it… blech. Service was good, but that was about it.

Trip report of our Hilton Head vacation first week of September. After all the bad reviews we were hesitant to spend one of our precious meals out despite several recommendations but decided to go for it and we weren’t disappointed! Yes we’re from NJ and don’t know what southern cooking is and that was why wifey asked people in strip malls of where to eat and several recommended Barnes. We told our waitress, Gina where we were from, wanted to try southern cooking and for her recommendations. Gina made the experience because she was super terrific — extremely patient, understanding and accommodating. Wanted to try the crab stew but didn’t know whether to get a cup or a bowl so Gina went and came back with a sample which was so rich, tasty and yummy that I had to get a bowl(should have gotten more because my family wolfed it down)! I wanted BBQ and Gina recommended a combo of rib and beef. The rub on the ribs was delish and when I saw the ring on the brisket anticipated and savored the smokiness of the brisket — another yum! Wife and daughter had to try southern fried chicken and ordered combo of white and dark meat. The manager came a short time later apologizing profusely about knowing how we wanted the fried chicken and said the cook didn’t fry up any dark meat in the batch and offered free appetizer and anything else on the menu instead of waiting. They so much wanted to try ether chicken that they opted to wait and they were glad they did because the chicken was very tasty, crispy, and juicy. My son was famished and was thinking of ordering two fried combos but mom said to wait and see and Gina said«Hon, one is a lot of food and hold off until you eat one» and of course she was right. The fried grouper was so good that he wolfed down the entire order and was completely sated(he also consumed most of the soup btw)! We all didn’t have room for dessert. So we had a great meal and time — hope you will give Barnes a chance for the same!

After having been to the location a few times since my last review I must say that I am unimpressed. The first two times I ordered from them I was very pleased with what I had. Apparently those first times were just a fluke. I’ll probably never go to Barnes or order from them again. The food quality has just plummeted to the ground. Not a place I’d recommend to anyone. There are better places for the price that are far more consistent.

I really enjoyed the shrimp salad sandwhich but that was about the only thing that impressed me here. I could not find much on the menu that I wanted to try so I dont think I would try it again.

Went here for dinner one night. We had been to Barne’s BBQ Express downtown on Whitier a few times and we always liked their brisket. Coming from Texas we are brisket snobs. This night we got the large brisket plate with mac and cheese and a salad. The brisket was as good as we remembered! Nice smoke ring, tender & juicy, which is nice because sliced brisket can easily get dried out. The portion of brisket was very large, about a pound of meat, plenty for leftovers. The mac and cheese was ok, and the salad was nice & fresh, with a decent ranch dressing. We also ordered the sauteed scallops, with sides of baked beans and collard greens. The scallops were large, juicy & sweet… I think there were 5 or 6 of them. They were nicely sauteed, although I wish they has drained them better before putting them on the plate; nice sear and crust then sitting in juice. The sides come in small little dishes that a lot of meat-and-3 places use. I’m grateful for that at Barnes. The beans were really tasty, lots of saucy savory flavor. The greens were ok, well cooked but I’m not a fan of greens in vinegar, although a lot of people are. The atmosphere is nice and the staff very friendly. Nice décor. We will definitely go back to Barnes’ for the brisket and scallops whenever we want a good meal away from the hustle and bustle downtown. I will definitely explore more of their menu. I’d give them 3.5 stars if that were an option.

Three stars for the wait staff. We went to Barnes with a rather large group(it was for a rehearsal dinner) and the wait staff did an amazing job of keeping up with our party. My drink glass was always full and I think they got all of the orders right. Unfortunately, the staff was about the only good thing about my dining experience at Barnes. While I enjoyed the side dishes I had — the mac & cheese and baked beans — but my main dish was less than desirable. The pulled pork was dry and the sauce on top was more like condensed tomato soup than BBQ sauce. The pork was dry and just wasn’t that great. The toast that they served with it looked just like buttered toast that I could make in my kitchen. It was not Texas toast in my opinion. When I think of Texas toast it is thick with a buttery garlic flavoring. The toast here was like wimpy white slices with a little butter. Meh. If I’m ever in Savannah again I think I will pass on Barnes but if I am forced to go I will try something else — maybe a salad or something.
