The owner is friendly, helpful and welcoming. The restaurant atmosphere is great and adds a Moroccan flavor to your dinner. Stop to smoke some fruity Hookah and relax watching a belly dancer show. I recommend sticking with Moroccan style dishes. The middle Easter options such as hummus and baba ganoush were average and I would not order them again.

Casbah Restaurant is closed! We made reservations there and found out it had merged with The Mirage Restaurant which was not up to the same standards. It is a bar with food. We were expecting something very different — a unique cultural experience. It is now very different from Casbah and very disappointing. Hookah smoking at nearby tables during dinner is not what we had expected to experience. The food is delicious but we were very rushed from the time we arrived. Dinner came out immediately after appetizers and our waiter asked us about dessert just as we started eating our entrees. We chose this restaurant based on reviews, but would not recommend it because it is not the same restaurant or experience.

My absolute favorite restaurant in Savannah. Great food, service, and show! I suggest trying the appetizer sampler but all of our food was exquisite. A huge shout out is due to our waiter Lane who was extremely personable and helpful.

If you’re going on a Saturday night, save yourself the wait and make a reservation! We are soooo glad we did! We went to Casbah at 7pm on Saturday night and thanks to our reservation we were seated right away. When we got there the place was about 60% full. I’ll say within the next 20 minutes it completely filled up and people who came about half an hour after us go stuck waiting at the entrance hoping for a table. And this place is not the kind of place where you go in for a quick eat, it’s designed to encourage socialization and operates on a slower pace, so waiting for a table can suck. So just take a second and call ahead if you can to ensure that you’re set! Ok, I think I’ve made my point. So about the food. Casbah embraces eating Moroccan style and as a result they do not serve utensils(but you can ask for them if you need them). Before your food is brought out they bring a beautiful water vessel to wash your hands. Then the food is served. My friends had never had Moroccan food before and they were both really satisfied with their food. I had the vegetables tagine and liked it. I didn’t think it was the best Moroccan food I’ve had but it was good. You can request harissa sauce to add more heat, it’s a traditional Moroccan hot sauce that they have, and if you mix it into your food, it will without a doubt give more flavor to the food. Also dipped in bread, it’s quite tasty. I would go to Casbah more for the atmosphere and the entertainment than for the food(imo it’s good but not amazing). As you can see from pictures on their website, the décor is very true to the colors and vibrancy of Morocco and once you step inside you’ll feel transported to another world. The belly dancer performs for twenty minutes every hour and the music, the dress and dancing are all beautiful. This restaurant has created an atmosphere ideal for ordering food, drinking a glass of wine or two, relaxing, and socializing.

The exterior of this building is nondescript, and you might miss it if you blink. The décor is like most Moroccan restaurants with low seating that is wide open so you can see everyone in the place. The furnishings seemed old, and there was a smell of kerosene in the place that was off-putting. It was awfully dark inside, too. The bellydancer was a nice touch. She wasn’t the best I’ve seen, but she was awfully friendly and did a good job entertaining the crowd. I was never offered a second hand washing or rosewater like those around me got. That said, the food was DELICIOUS. I ordered the sweet onion chicken, which also came with potatoes, carrots, green beans and rice for $ 17. When the food came out, the waiter asked me if I would be needing silverware. Huh? Was that a mistake, or was I supposed to eat with my hands?

I’ve been here before… years ago. On vacation in Savannah, we loved the food and the belly-dancing so much that we came back a second time. So of course, it was on our list of restaurants this time around. The food was good, but not as good as I’d remembered. The belly dancing was okay… but Layla Katrina she was NOT. I was overall disappointed. I missed the flames and swords, I missed the rosewater they used to use to pour over your hands after the meal, I missed the lady who’d read your cards if you wanted her to, and I missed the ambiance. *big sigh*

Ok the bread… deliciousness. They get 5 stars even though there are a few things I would normally deduct for, just because it was a truly unique experience. I had never gone to a place where you ate without utensils before, and I liked having my hands washed :) I was totally embarrassed when the belly dancer made us come up and participate, but my husband found it very amusing and it was all in good fun. Had there been a larger crowd when she called us up, there would have been no coaxing me from my seat! the food was delicious. I wish our table had been a little bit cleaner upon arrival. That’s really my only complaint.

Was in town just for a night and wanted to go somewhere that wasn’t southern cooking. When we walked into the low lighted, mood set Casbah, there was a sassy pink haired belly dancer vibrating to the Moroccan music. We were seated immediately and had a wonderful waiter who was very attentive throughout the whole meal. Loved sitting on low cushioned benches and being separated enough from all the other diners so that we felt alone. After reading the reviews on Unilocal we ordered some of the hot sauce dip with bread, which was free and delicious. We had the Cornish game hen appetizer, which was good but a little too nutty for us(neither of us like nuts). We also ordered a bottle of wine, a pinot noir, which was very tasty. For dinner my boyfriend ordered the spiced lamb. Soo good! It comes with these wonderful steamed carrots, rice, red potatoes and green beans. All of these were spiced perfectly. I had the mixture kabob of chicken, lamb and beef. Also came with all the same sides and was absolutely delicious. You eat with your hands there, which for us was great fun and it adds to your experience. Before and after the meal you wash your hands with rose water. We don’t usually mind spending a bit more on nice occasion meals, so the check was reasonable, albeit a little pricey. But they do have an optional all inclusive meal plan, which seemed like a great idea too. Over all, we had a great time there and really enjoyed it. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone who wants to really experience a meal.

I’d say the food was just ok. What drew me in was the belly dancing, but I was pretty disappointed. Leave it to the south to have an ethnic restaurant with a white belly dancer. It kind of ruins the experience of authenticity for me.

The food is always absolutely amazing, the service is top knotch, and the entertainment is as good as it gets. I suggest eating with your hands as is custom, but if you’re not into that idea then they do have silverware available. The hot tea is amazing and it’s hard not to fill up on that and the bread with the spicy dipping sauce alone! The belly dancers are always fun– especially when they dance with fire. Anyone who would complain about this place is either a) an ass, or b) has no sense of fun or adventure. I’m VERY picky, but this place is one of my favorite spots. I brought my family here for NYE, and if I feel it’s good enough for a bunch of people from DC, then it’s obviously a pretty nice spot!
Overpriced food. Cheesy belly dancers. Smelled like an old antique shop. Cheap dirty seats and atmosphere. Servers were corny and I had to listen to one of them flirt with a customer half the time. Disappointed the whole time… especially when the check came.

This place is really great! There are a lot of tourists here but it manages to maintain a nice atmosphere in spite of this. Also there is a belly dancer and she leaves you alone if you don’t show an interest which was nice because my hubby and I like our privacy. And they make you wash your hands with rosewater at the table in Moroccan tradition which was fun and added to the experience, although I wish they had given us something to dry ur hands with. The food is really really good! There is like a spicy dip that comes with the bread which is great. We had scallops with apricots as an appetizer, scallops were cooked right, and the apricot sauce was fantastic. As an entrée I had the cornish game hen. This was an entire hen! OMG! Usually they give you half at most restaurants so this was a little excessive, especially with the jasmine rice, but it was so delicious I liked being overfed with it. We had dessert, I couldn’t tell you what it was called but it had chocolate and coconut and phyllo dough and was delicious. Would love to go back.

After a hot and sweaty afternoon touring the lovely historic downtown area of Savannah, we needed something hearty and relaxing to satiate our tired selves. And, as we were on day 5 or 6 of our Southern Roadtrip, BBQ was out of the question. Casbah? Moroccan? Good reviews? Let’s do it! And it was So good! The food, and the décor, are both truly authentic. We thoroughly enjoyed everything from the tableside handwashing, to the rosewater after-dinner rinse. We ordered the cornish hen w/lemon and olives and it was fantastic. Moist, tender, and super flavorful. The vegetable appetizers that started out the meal were also amazing. Savory and refreshing. Dim lights. Low seating w/cute cushions all around. A little dancing entertainment! Thank you! Casbah offered exactly what we needed!

From the Bellydancers to the food, it was a delightful dinner. The inside is made to look like an elaborate tent, and the servers make the experience as authentic as possible. They bring a basin and jug to wash your hands at the table, and put rose water in your hands before you go. It is Moroccan custom to eat food with the right hand(the left is meant for personal hygiene). Go and give it a try! I had the roasted lamb with vegetable couscous, and it was delicious.

We loved the experience. We loved the ambiance. We loved the food. We were disappointed that they only exotic beer they had was«Taj Mahal,» from India(?) Great food, great fun!

The cornish hen appetizer was different, but good. The spicy roasted lamb dish was very, very good. The environment was nice, and I think this is a great place to take a date. My only problem with this place is that the belly dancer was a little aggressive(ie trying to force participation, soliciting tips etc). Otherwise, I really liked the food and the environment.

Belly Dancers? Check. Bar? Check. Good food? Check. Casbah was the first stop on our little Savannah vacation. We were just browsing around some menu’s that our hotel had so graciously laid out and we came across Casbah. The menu looked interesting, and we weren’t really in the mood for southern homestyle or seafood — so Casbah won. We showed up around 7pm on Monday night. No reservation needed as it was a weeknight and the middle of January. Upon entering we were one of two parties in the entire restaurant — that was a little odd we thought, even for an off season. Regardless we were greeted with a smile and shown to a table that gave us an excellent view of the belly dancer — who comes out off and on for the entire evening(and also gives lessons right up front — beware if you’re shy!) The décor is like a giant party tent, lots of purples and golds — a little kitschy but appropriate and über fun. We ordered a Taj Mahal(delicious lager) and a Kir(white wine mixed with crème de cassis) Next came the handwashing as it is tradition to eat with your right hand(though silverware is available for the prim). Bread provided with some Moroccan hot sauce that was excellent and just the right amount of spicy. We each ordered the Diaffa — which is an appetizer, entrée, and dessert for a fixed price($ 30). Starters were the Cornish Hen Bastilla(a chicken pie of sorts) coated in powdered sugar. I likened it to a Monte Cristo. We also had the Scallops Casablanca — 4 perfectly cooked scallops with a less spicy moroccan hot sauce sauteed with onions and peppers(OMG good) Entrees were Spicy Roasted Lamb and the Kabob Feast. Spicy lamb was very tender, flavorful, and not horribly spicy. Kabob feast was one skewer each beef, chicken, and lamb. All three meats were juicy and not overcooked with a great balance of spices(cumin of course the star). Each was served with vegetables(green beans, carrots, potatoes) and saffron rice. Dessert was Baklava and a fillo dough filled with coconut(we’re talking an entire coconut shredded and put in there) and dark chocolate. Baklava was unbeatable — best I’ve had anywhere. The coconut dish was not stellar — but then again I’m not big on coconut And mint tea to finish. For both of us — bill came to $ 100(that’s with tip). Not bad at all for two three course meals plus booze. Great ambiance, great food, fun entertainment, excellent service. Would not hesitate to come back here on our next Savannah trip.
