This place has TERRIBLE customer service with respect to cashier staff. I went in to price an acoustic gutair and upon leaving the shop I was sitting in my car returning a text message prior to leaving when a store employee came out to my car and placed a tow away notice on my windshield, stating parking was for Portman’s customers only! I found this most alarming since I had left the store only moments before(approximately 2 minutes), and I did not visit any other stores. I took the notice back inside and stated to the individual who had placed the notice on my vehicle that I had indeed been shopping in Portman’s and had left only moments ago. The employee was rude and dismissive, thus I will certainly be purchasing my acoustic guitar elsewhere.

Awesome instrument selection but an awful experience with the staff. Having been told the wrong information by a previous employee about returning an instrument before the three month instrument rental time, I repeated this to another employee and got a very bad attitude from her. I told the employee that I was told this information and if I knew what the correct information was, I wouldn’t have rented the instrument knowing I would return it early. They returned the money and I thanked the employee on the way out… no response from her. I don’t see why you have to act such a way towards a customer especially since it’s not my fault I was misinformed by you guys.

Quantity not quality — Dont get scammed by the lessons– If you need a babysitter for $ 20 an hour — you’ve found the right place — if you want your kids to learn music — go elsewhere. The manager could care less if your child learns or doesn’t — just wants the cash

Amazing group of folks! I’m here often. My husband and both daughters take lessons here, one guitar, one ukulele and the other keyboard. They all love their teachers and love going every week. Very reasonable prices on lessons and instruments! Are family won’t go anywhere else!!! Thank you all for all of your help!

This place must be heaven for serious music lovers. They have departments for pianos, violins, guitars, drums, DJ stuff, etc… whatever you want, and there’s an expert working in each area to make sure you get all the right information/equipment. They also have a bunch of sheet music and miscellaneous things. I haven’t taken any music lessons so I can’t attest to that, but I always see people going in for them, so it can’t be too bad. I’d say the prices for the instruments is fair, and there’s a points system — although I’m not sure what the points are for. I bought a nice keyboard, piano bench, and pedal for about $ 750 — not too shabby, and I love my keyboard.

I had been advised against going here by multiple people in town over the years, but I needed some guitar strings and was on Abercorn, so I thought I would give it a try. Long story short, we were browsing the drum section when my son played a beat with his open hand on one of the display sets. It wasn’t loud, it wasn’t prolonged. Just a quick test. The bald gentleman who was standing in the drum section conversing with someone turned around and smugly muttered«Yeah, not good.» He then turned back around and resumed his conversation. There were no signs or any type of indication that the set was not to be used or touched. Seemed pretty rude and short-sighted on his part. My son’s drum kit is nearing the end of its lifespan, and we have been looking to buy another kit. I put the guitar strings back and decided to purchase them(and a drum set) elsewhere. Customer service is important, especially when you are selling expensive musical instruments.

I wish there was another music store in the savannah area. I can’t believe that people actually still shop here. The employees are not educated on their products but pretend that they know everything. I have been shopping here for 8 years but after my last experience I will just be ordering everything from online. That is sad.
