Okay after finding this restaurant on groupon, I decided to go for breakfast. That being said I had to leave Canton, GA at 6am to get there. Wait I was going to Savannah to hang out, not just for breakfast lol. But since I love to eat, I said why not start early. Unfortunately when I walked through the door they said breakfast was over 15 minutes ago. No problem lunch looked good, and it was. My oxtails were tender and well seasoned. mac and cheese were good and the yams were excellent. My mom had their fried chicken, and she said it was nice and moist. We were so full as soon as we got in the car we unbuttoned our jeans. That’s so sad lol. We enjoyed our lunch so much, the next day we decided to finally make it for breakfast. Maybe we shouldn’t have. Breakfast was just ok and they didn’t have any coffee made. WHAT! No coffee during breakfast. Didn’t they know we were coming? Then while we were eating a party of seven came in, after Church crowd. The owner came to the dining area and talked to them all, laughing it up. Then I hear her say I just made desert, who wants to sample it. Two minutes later she appeared with small samples of dessert. Hello I drove all the way from Canton, GA and out of all the restaurant’s I came to your’s, then came back the next day, where the hell is my dessert??? She walked passed us, without even a head nod. I couldn’t believe it, how rude was that!!! Would it have killed her to treat all of the customer’s the same? I mean two more people really. The place is so small, she had to know we heard her. Oh well I think the next time I’m in Savannah I’ll pass.

Little hole in the wall but amazing soul food! Flavors were amazing, prices even better. Left there stuffed! Not in the best area but food is worth it. Oxtail was great and fried chicken was very flavorful and the side dishes were great.

I loved saying the name even better than the food. shout out to the Sistahs of the new South! Wife got ox tail and I got the turkey wing. We’re from the west coast so we might not be the best judge of soul food. The ox tail was tasty and kind of reminds of how my mom made it(Chinese ox tail stew). The turkey wing was okay. I liked the collard greens the best even if they were a bit salty. Hey that’s what drinks are for.

I tend to shy away from anywhere that local tour busses bring groups of people, but Sisters seemed to have some good reviews, so we gave it a try. First, let me address another reviewer that described it as being in a sketchy neighborhood. Maybe 10 years ago, but there is a big Starbucks across the street now, for goodness sakes… busy street full of businesses and chain restaurants? Yes. Sketchy? Nope. The food is served in pre-cooked hot plate style. Stand in line, get your meal on a tray, sit and eat. Traditional Southeastern fare. The oxtails were really moist and tender, and the macaroni and cheese was cheesy goodness. The only point of contention was the cornbread. I(a ‘Northerner’) really liked it. Just a small hint of sweet. My husband, a native Carolinian, will have nothing to do with cornbread that even comes close to sweet. In fact, he makes his with white corn because he finds yellow corn naturally too sweet for cornbread. My cornbread snob husband aside, a really good meal.

We were driving back up to NYC from Miami and stopped here for lunch. What a gem. The food was so good(bbq pork was fall-off-the-bone tender, veggie sides to die for) and the place has a grandma’s house vibe. Paid $ 11 and some change for three sides and a protein. Well worth the price for the portions. I would 100% come back here and bring all of my friends. A shame we don’t live closer.

The food here is wonderful. Huge portions. I had the fried shrimp with green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy and mac and cheese. I couldn’t tell you which was the best! The staff is super friendly and was willing to let us sample anything on the menu. Would not choose any other place in the area to eat.

In terms of taste, the food was good, however all ten items that we had were cold. The macaroni and cheese was so cold that the cheese was congealed on top. The service was ok and they were accommodating. It was very disappointing after seeing previous reviews as we had expectations of at least hot food. The various types of lemonade looked delicious, but just tasted like syrup. Although what we had tasted decent, it was not exceptional enough for us to visit it again due to the temperature issues:(

Amazing food! The portions are very good sized! The steak, Mac and cheese, dressing, mashed potatoes, and corn bread are all so good! And the 3 layer cake is really good too. Very nice and friendly staff. And very quick service.

I would give this place another try, and I think we made the mistake of going there at a slow time? Anyway, the chicken was perfect, but the sides were kind of lacking and had that«I’ve been sitting in my veg juices for a long time» thing going on. We had to wait nearly an hour for mac and cheese for my son, which he liked! but it wasn’t really worth waiting all that time. Everyone was nice, but it was just really, really slow and they did that thing where they were like«just five more minutes… just five more minutes…» and yeah. That’s a really big ask for a 2 year old(and his parents).

I had purchased an «Amazon local» coupon as a gift for my Mother on Mothers Day last year for this place. She hadn’t used it, so, with my being in town for the weekend, we decided to try it. On a rainy Sunday night — my last night here — we walked in and discovered this treasure. From the perfectly seasoned collards to the made-to-order tilapia, to the friendly, hard– working and welcoming staff, SISTERS was a perfect way to wrap up the weekend — and my visit down South from Manhattan. I wish they had a franchise — this would be the Bomb in NYC! I will make it a point to head to SISTERS every time I come to Savannah.

Best soul/southern food I’ve ever had. Just what I imagined Savannah food would be like. While I was making up my mind the owner saw me look at the fried chicken and he gave me a drumstick to try. Nobody does that. Cool owner! Such a wide assortment of good food. They had chicken and pork and ox tail and so much more. I had the turkey drum stick(huge) with gravy. I chose my three sides which were macaroni and cheese and lima beans and stuffing and gravy with free corn bread. Everything was delicious. The stuffing was the best I’ve ever had at any restaurant. They had a television on and I noticed it was showing the owner on different food shows being interviewed and I thought that was pretty neat. I only had one minor complaint. The waitress brought my soda over but never came back and asked if I wanted a refill or a soda to go. But she did ask this other table if they wanted sodas to go. And she was not really that friendly. The rest of the staff was very friendly. I guess she had a bad day. I highly recommend this place and I will tell you I spent about $ 12. I was going to go to the Pirate’s House which was highly recommended by one of the staff at the Georgia visitor center. The other place they suggested was Paula Dean’s place both had great Unilocal reviews but way overpriced. She told me I could get a good dinner for about nine dollars. The entrées there started more like $ 20-$ 25 and up at both places. I made the better choice and the reason I did is because of Unilocal reviews. Go Unilocal!!!

Wow, this place is off the charts good. I have not had Mrs. Wilkes — which is apparently the other great place for soul food in Savannah — but I seriously doubt is is any better than this place. My wife found this place on Unilocal and we stopped by for lunch. Everything was absolutely incredible. The fried chicken, Ox tail, mac and cheese, greens, you name it. You won’t find better southern food anywhere. Not even your mama’s kitchen! It is nothing special on the outside, but don’t let that discourage you. This restaurant is a must try if your in Savannah.

Good stick to your ribs southern cooking with all the fixings. I enjoyed their red rice, oxtail, cabbage, corn bread, and lima beans the other day. My friends had the grilled whiting, grilled shrimp, fried chicken, and fried whiting. Excellent seasoning on their entrees and sides. We were too full to have their peach cobbler and regret not getting it when we left. It seemed everyone in the dining room had peach cobbler. If you want fancy ambiance or space don’t go to Sisters. If you want delicious well seasoned and well prepared food GOTOSISTERS.

I was in the mood for some good soul food so I asked one of the staff at the hotel for a recommendation and he gave me two but Sisters of the New South was the only one open. He assured me the food was incredible so I contacted the valet service to let them know I needed my car and I headed for Sisters of the New South. After fighting the rush hour traffic I pulled in and right off the bat I loved the look and feel of this place. It reminded me of a more refined version of a soul food joint I would frequent in Fort Worth. I felt like a kid in a candy store due to the charm of the place and that heavenly smell. You order at the counter, receive a plate if you are dining in and a server brings you a drink. I wanted to try several of the meats and several of the sides and asked if I could do just that but asked for reduced scoops so I it was not enough food for 3 days. The girl at the counter seemed to be acomodating… I requested a turkey wing, Ox Tails, and a rib for meat and for sides a small scoop of mac n cheese, some stewed okra and some greens along with a piece of corn bread and a sweet tea. YES, you heard me… SWEETTEA! When she rang me up, she said it came to $ 25. I was stunned because that plate at best was about a $ 16 to $ 18 portion of food and the pictures tell the story. This is the primary reason this review is not 5 stars and only 3 stars. I am VERY familiar with soul food joints and I really did not appreciate being gouged like that so all that was running through my head at this point is… This better be some incredible food for that price… Straight up… The food was some of the best soul food I have had that did not come from my own two hands and I expressed my displeasure on the way out regarding the price she charged me for that plate. If I am ever back in Savannah with my wife, I would bring her here BUT I would stick to a plate on the menu because they seem have no problem price gouging the«tourists» if they can get away with it. You did not get away with it… I CHOSE to overpay simply to taste your food based on the praise given by the hotel staff member and he was right… GREATFOOD is served here so I just don’t get why you chose to gouge me like that at the register… NOTCOOL!!! 10⁄8UPDATE I just had a phone conversation with the owner of Sisters of the New South. He spoke to his staff prior to calling me and we discussed exactly what happened and how the situation should have been addressed by his staff member. Not once during our conversation did he try and make excuses. He took ownership of the issue and is also taking corrective action to prevent something like this from happening again. He will be adding a «sampler» to the menu and I expect it to be a hit since Savannah is a tourist town just like Orlando but with more history. I was offered a gift card for my next visit but I asked that he instead treat the staff at the Hyatt Regency that referred me there and were raving about the food. Had it not been for them, I would have never found this place and you can bet that the next time I make it to savannah, I will take him up on his offer to meet face to face. Sometimes the ball gets dropped but due to the way this was handled… They truly deserve the other 2 stars I have just added to this review…

The fried chicken here is so delicious, especially if you can get it piping hot! I wanted Southern food as my last meal before leaving Savannah, and this was the right place! We stopped by on a Sunday and luckily there was only a small line, whew! The food was displayed in a buffet counter, with attendants scooping your order for you. The items were being replenished or replaced so no worries about being served stale stuff. I ordered a plate of the oxtails while my bf got the fried chicken. As we were waiting to check out; I noticed that the 2 patrons in front of me were talking very softly to the elder cashier. She was a no-nonsense type of lady that was direct and very concise with her words. Before my bf could even ask to add a cobbler to our order; she interrupted him to ask our drink order. Then, without warning, she reached and got us a serving of cobbler. Man, that lady is good with her mind reading! Anyway, we grabbed a table in the dining area and sat down. There was a young attendant that was sorting utensils and such. There wasn’t a self serve drink station so we had to flag her down for refills, which was kind of awkward. Moving on, my plate sides of: mac and cheese, collard greens, and sweet yams were so perfect. I don’t know what were in those greens, but they were my favorite! The oxtails were delicious, but a tad salty for me. I was able to swipe a bite of chicken from my bf and it was amazing! In hindsight, I should of just ordered a plate of that crispy, juicy fried chicken! Oh well, there’s always next time!

The portions are small and their prices are high for a soul food takeout place. I ordered the fired chicken which only comes with two pieces and three(3) sides, I got the sweet potatoes, collard greens and macaroni & cheese. They use a small ice-cream scoop and give 1 — 1 ½ portion. It came with a side of cornbread, which was a bit dry and tasteless. My wife got the ox’s tail(three small pieces) and three sides. Our orders came to almost $ 30. Usually soul food is filling, however with such small portions we felt cheated. The customer that was before us commented to the cashier that the styrofoam containers were smaller than usual, the cashier just smiled. I am not sure what was seen by some of the other Unilocalers with their raving reviews, but experience was totally different. We do not recommend nor will we be returning.

I had a very nice experience here. The food was delicious. I thought the staff was perfectly friendly, and my parents said it was some of the best food we had during our trip. One thing I’d like to note: my brother ordered something that needed to be cooked to order, and it did take a long time to come out. I noticed this complaint in other reviews. We were all super hungry, so my poor brother was just receiving his grilled chicken when the rest of us were polishing off the last of our plates. The wait was worth it, though, and he raved about the food. He let me try a bite, and it really was amazing grilled chicken. Moist, flavorful, and smoky from the grill. But if you want your entire party to eat at the same time, you need to order from what’s hot and ready to serve.

What can one say when your tired, grumpy, and feel like the day has hit a wall? Well, if your seeking comfort like I was, then Sisters is the way to go. First off the staff are wonderful, we had a lovely lady sit and visit with us for several minutes, she was great! Visit California soon! Now let’s get to the food… Smothered Pork Chops, Stuffing, mashed potatoes, and fried Okra which is made to order! Everything about it was delicious, so much food I couldn’t finish it and I would not hesitate recommending this place to a friend. Thank you for giving this southern Californian and awesome southern dinner sendoff and the White Velvet Cake for dessert was moist and as yummy as can be!!!
