We always have the best time here. The Philly steak sandwich & smoked chicken & mushroom rigatoni are to die for & Denise makes the best drinks. Her fresh blueberry lemonades & strawberry daiquiris are the best in the summer!

Long time ‘former’ fan from Three Oaks, MI days. So glad it re-opened and the first meal was outstanding from the special salad to wine. Not so tonight. The BLT salad was not what was presented on the menu– ice berg lettuce, quartered with a ranch dressing which was more of a ‘dip’. The special strip steak could not be cut with a steak knife. Grizzle and stringy there was no help for a poor quality of meat. The Cod, though cooked well, was more of a ‘hospital’ presentation. The most disappointing thing was the female owner who was also tending bar, came through the restaurant checking on people and though we had by that time sent the meal back, she did not stop to see WHY. Other than our server apologizing there was no interest on what had gone wrong. We were not after a ‘free’ desert; just interest in food and its preparation. It will be a very long time before returning; if ever.

I was pretty pleased as the food was great and the prices were reasonable. The service was really good, too. This is a nice contrast to the old place in this building which was not worth crossing the road for(I live a few minutes away). I hope they survive and prosper here and we’ll certainly be back.

I’m so-so on this, but will give it another go. Drinks are creative and fun, and well made. Food is alright, not bad, not remarkable. The kids menu(we had my young nephew with us) was ridic — something like $ 8 for KRAFT mac & cheese? I can’t get behind that. Now, I don’t typically enjoy food & beverage with small children, so I understand the possibility of discouraging their presence with a ridiculously priced kid menu, but offer REAL food, not BOXED m&c for WAY too much scratch.

Stopped in for a quick bite and stayed a long time savoring the fall menu and enjoying the Paso Robles. Veggie fried rice and veggie tacos were a highlight!

A favorite place to enjoy a farm-to-table dinner when we’re at the lake. Good service, well designed restaurant with good, delicious, and interesting food. The wine selection is also pretty good with a lot of Oregon and regional wines.

Delicious fresh food, pleasant décor. Only down side(I’m nit picking) are the chairs outside(covered patio) area. The back rests lean so far backward, difficult/uncomfortable when eating. Other than that, love this place.

We were looking for a place to meet friends between Michigan City Indiana and Coloma MI and Sawyer was right in the middle. We frequently went to the restaurant that was in this spot a few years ago(Soe Café) and were so excited to learn a new place had opened up there. Our friends had to cancel but since it was a gorgeous night, we decided to take a beautiful drive along Red Arrow Highway and made a reservation for two. We arrived a few minutes late for our reservation(but called first) and the hostess couldn’t be more welcoming and pleasant. We asked for a table outside when we called earlier and they said they couldn’t guarantee(understood) so we were pleased when she seated us at a high-top table on the covered porch right in front of the restaurant. I noticed also that they have a beautiful and large screened dining area too. The patios were bustling with activity — people dining and drinking — I loved the energy in this place and the staff were all so happy and smiling. When we walked out at the end of our meal, the bartender shouted«did you enjoy your dinner?» — everyone seems to be thrilled to be here and once we ate, we understood why. The first highlight was our server — Lily. She greeted us promptly and took our drink orders from their wonderful cocktail menu and wine list. Their drinks are imaginative and full of interesting ingredients like Grapefruit Vodka. I ordered a glass of Meomi Pinot Noir(one of my favorites) and it was a very generous pour in a beautiful glass. The menu consisted of small and large plates and we had originally decided to order a few items from the large plates section but then saw a few of the small plates(the Goat Cheese Fritters and Roasted Garlic Custard) coming out of the kitchen — one after the other. We had to try these dishes that everyone was ordering so we landed on those items and two sandwiches. That strategy allowed us to leave room for dessert! The fritters and custard were amazing! They were both prepared to perfection and large portions that were great for sharing. The custard was one of the most interesting things I’ve eaten… a «flan-like» consistency with delicate flavors — not at all overpowering if you’re not a garlic addict. The mushroom ragout on top was earthy and delicious. I smeared both on top of a perfectly toasted crostini and I was in heaven! Our sandwiches were also fantastic. My husband ordered a Blackened Grilled Salmon sandwich and I ordered the Portobello Patty Melt. I’m not sure if they bake their breads in-house but they were amazing — so fresh and light. The patty melt was something I will want to come back for again and again. Our dessert was a fresh peach ragout on top of spice cake with fresh whipped cream. It tasted like the peaches were just picked — so tasty but not overly sweet. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal of amazing food and great service. Mesa Luna is a Southwest Michigan gem and we can’t wait to go back and bring friends!

The burger was huge! The fries were cut fresh and the oriental chicken salad was tasty. The beer selection is excellent and they have a very good beer on tap I tried for the first time… orange something(get it with a lemon). It was quiet, in the middle of the day, and we had the entire dining room to ourselves, so I can tell you the services were great. Kids meal(pasta) was a little«skimpy» although my kids don’t eat much anyway. That is the only reason for the 4 stars. It’s a must try and I will definitely be back for the lamb chops!

I absolutely love visiting Sawyer(I live a short drive away in Miller Beach, Gary IN), and this is definitely my new favorite spot. No offense to the other fabulous watering holes in the area, but Mesa Luna just hits the spot for me. The hubs and I went there for my birthday and had the best time. We sat at the bar and enjoyed an amazing meal, passed the time with complete strangers(now friends) at the bar, and generally had a helluva great night. We each sampled a few different wines, all lovingly described by our spirited bartender, who also happened to be the owner, I believe. She was awesome. So friendly and accommodating. Her descriptions of each wine were absolutely on point. We also ordered the spicy pickles for an app. They’re pickled in house and super crisp and tasty. Then we split the Mac n Cheese, which is mixed with broccoli and lightly crusted with panko. So good. And we even got a surprise slice of cake for dessert! Everyone sang Happy Birthday and I got to blow out a candle. So fun. We were so impressed by the relaxed vibe, the decadent food, and the knowledgeable and friendly staff that we decided to come back the next day to try a few more menu items and resample our favorite wines. We were not disappointed. In addition to the sauvignon blanc, which is heavy on the grapefruit, I also had the Coppola sparkling wine in a can, which comes complete with a bendy straw. How cute and hilarious! We split an amazing salad and Mesa burger. Delish! I’m so confused by some of the other Unilocal reviews of Mesa Luna. Maybe it’s because there are only a handful of reviews and apparently they’ve only been open for a year or so. Perhaps some of these other people came on a particularly rough day or they’re super food snobs. I don’t know, but all I can do is write about my own experiences and daydream about my next visit to Mesa Luna.

Easily the best meal and service we had during our stay in Harbor Country.
