Curds & Mold Fromagerie

Based on a recommendation from friends, we made a special trip to Saxonburg to purchase cheese from Curds & Mold on Saturday, ¹⁄₂₃. The hours posted on Unilocal showed that they were open until 5:00 PM. When we arrived at 3:35 we noticed that the hours for Saturday posted on the door showed they were only open until 4:00 so we were glad we arrived when we did! However, even though the lights were on and there was someone in the store, the door was locked. The person in the store just stood there looking at us! My husband mouthed «Are you open?» three or four times and got no response. She just continued to stare at him. We turned around and left. I almost wrote a review that day but decided to give them another chance. So the following Monday, 1/​25, I sent them an email explaining what happened when we visited their store and asked for clarification on their hours on Saturdays. It has now been 9 days and I have not heard back from them. Being a huge lover of cheese, they lost a sale the day we visited and a potential frequent customer for good.

Very frustrated after our most recent experience here. We were so excited when Curds & Mold opened, and were absolutely in love with the wide selection available — shopping there often and sometimes making special trips just to purchase cheese from this location. However, this evening my father drove out of his way to purchase cheese here, arriving at 5:15pm — 45 minutes before the shop closes. When he got there and walked inside to make his purchase, he was turned away because (in spite of the door being unlocked and there being no signage on the door) they were having a private party. He was immensely frustrated and we’re so disappointed in how poorly this situation was handled — they could have at least allowed him to make his purchase after driving 30 minutes out of his way to shop there.

We stopped in last week and was totally impressed. The gentleman, Ron, who helped us was very knowledgeable about the different types of cheese. Quaint little place

I love this cheese shop! They have a great selection of European and Domestic cheeses, including a hard to find Norwegian cheese called Gjetost that I’ve been looking for. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, plus they have a passion for great cheese.
The Penn Mac will always be my favorite, but this shop is a great option for this community to the north of Pittsburgh.
Definitely worth visiting!
