The food is very good, but the service in the dining room is severely lacking. The last three times we’ve been in the dining room, we are completely ignored until we are standing in the middle of the room and someone in the kitchen happens to see us. Getting drinks refilled rarely happens. The only time the waitstaff comes out is to bring your food or bring your check.

The karaōke is fun. Most of the food is good. Every time I have ordered french fries, they have come out dark brown. It seems the cooks don’t know when it is time to change the oil in the deep fryer.

We stopped in on our way to a Father’s Day bbq. the food was really good, the service was extremely friendly. They customized a special on the menu to accommodate my food allergy.

Went here for the first and probably last time. The server seemed to have no idea what was on the menu or the prices. Ask for a few things not be on my burger… but they were. Asked for a side of ranch, never got it. Asked for lemons for our waters as the water tasted like tap water. Got them after we had finished eating and no longer even had water. The fries were very good. The burger wad way too pink in the center. The breakfast looks pretty good so may try that. Hopefully the same guy doesn’t wait on us.

Located on Hwy 30, this gem is a dive bar we frequent every now and then. They don’t serve pitchers of beer. The regulars are interesting to watch. The karaōke singers… there are some really good ones. At the bar, for a quarter you have a chance of winning a pot of money if you roll a yahtzee… essentially that anyway. It’s one time every visit. I’ve tried twice and both times I was one away! The drinks are good and strong. The price is reasonable. I haven’t had the food here yet. The atmosphere is divey. They also have a table where you can play a hand of Blackjack or poker depending on what kind of mood the people and/or the dealer is in. It’s a good place to learn and get used to table play before trying it in an actual casino.

They had a Cioppino as a special, that was not even close to the classic fish soup stew. A bland broth with chopped canned tomatoes floating about. The real problem was my husband being served a pork chop that was RAW! They did not charge us for that meal, and the waitress said the owner wanted to come speak to us about it. She then came back and said he had to cook a dinner for someone and couldn’t come out. Had he simply cooked my husband’s meal then we would not be worried about food poisoning tonight.

In good ol’ Columbia County, your dining options are limited. Not as limited as they used to be, but some odd 7,000 inhabitants of this Portland suburb can only sustain so many restaurants. Lucky for Wayside, they’ve been around for quite some time. Has it always been amazing and offered fresh food and not been populated by Columbia County’s finest(sloppiest) drunks? Um… not quite. But they have somehow stood the test of time, and with a new owner and a revamped menu, things are looking up for this roadhouse-esque establishment perched on the city limits of Scappoose. WORTHMENTIONING: the broasted chicken, which Wayside is known for. It’s always been on the menu, and I truly believe its the only thing that kept people coming back to this place in its«dark days»(basically anytime in the last ten years). The chicken is crispy, juicy, and no bullshit. Comes with Jo-Jo’s and coleslaw and nothing else. Simple and perfect. DEFINITELYWORTHMENTIONING: the mozzarella melts on the bar menu. It’s basically a homemade cheese stick, and as a cheese stick/bar food aficionado, it nearly brought a fat girl tear to my eye. Who stops at the Wayside on their way to a prime rib dinner in Scappoose to have a beer and a few mozzarella melts before meeting their dinner party? Someone I know. Not me, though. *awkward cough* They have live music on weekends, too. Cruise out to Columbia County if you need a break from the city, and belly up to the bar at Wayside.

Stopped in for a quick burger and drink on the way North while road tripping. Pleasant little place, and some excellent burgers. I got the philly burger and my lady got their standard cheeseburger. Both came with plenty of fresh veggies, and one of the better buns I’ve ever had on a burger, full-stop. The fries were piping hot and fresh too. It looked like they had good dinner and breakfast options as well, but we showed up at the time when only the lunch options were available. I’ll definitely stop in again if I’m on a similar route!

New chef, new food, new ambiance. The food was fantastic. We had the fried mushrooms, which weren’t frozen and very yummy. I had the prime rib sandwich special. It had mushroom and onions on it. It was really delicious. my husband had the ribs and they were so amazing. We will definitely be back.

If you haven’t been to the Wayside in a while, you need to stop in!(The ribs alone are worth it) New owner, new staff, new chef and new menu. Soooo good. We’re really happy to have a bar close by that understands people like us — that just because we prefer a bar to a restaurant doesn’t mean we want nothing but fried food. The bar menu is great, and there’s a bar breakfast menu too. Well done guys!

Wow pleasantly surprised at the quality and flavor of the food. The staff was attentive and friendly and did I mention the food was really good. Only complaint is the beer was too much for my cheap butt lol If you have not had Wayside in a while, try it again you will be glad you did!

The food here is amazing! I had a cheesburger and fries, and it was probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had and the fries are great!

I come here often for breakfast. They’re not very busy in the morning and can get served fairly quickly. Just average typical diner food.

seems like a good place. had one pint of beer. loads of Elvis Presley décor. Mirror Pond on draft tasted a bit eld, so maybe careful of ordering a microbrew here. great view of a few plumber butts seated at the bar. no frills tavern, they have separate dining area, too. breakfast seems like it’d be legit

This was by far THE worst restaurant I have ever been to. Our waitress knew nothing about what was on the menu or even the soup of the day. She was extremely unpleasant the whole time and it was very awkward to bother her to ask for just a refill. The food took over an hour to make and was awful. The clam chips were burnt and we were told the cook didn’t know how to make them. Our stomachs have been turning the whole ride home and we can’t believe how horrible of an experience we had.

I have lived in the community for 6 years and have never frequented the Wayside. A friend and her husband picked me up one Friday night after work and we were off to Karaōke night. There is more parking in the back. Well, we walked in through the back entrance. Older décor, quaint. Saw an ATM machine before entering the lounge. Didn’t see anyone in the Restaurant portion of the establishment. Walked into the lounge area and the whole room turned to watch us enter. Wow. There was a good size bar with the bartendress/waitress(who kept up with the crowd very well) and a Blackjack tablen with dealer. There were several booths, dimly lit room. We sat in a booth and watched as the black jack table filled up in no time flat. Several people seated around the bar and a few people at the slot machines. A little later we heard music and saw people were starting Karaōke. I told my friends lets go down and see. Surprisingly, that on the other side of the bar was more. The area was cluttered with posters and hanging advertisements. A pool table pushed to one side of the room. A large older model big screen TV for the lyrics of the music. Several more cocktail tables the karaōke master way in the back. As we sat there, it was amazing that that little place just packed in the people. There were singers of all ages. I loved it. Everyone seemed so happy and friendly to one another. There were people in the 70’s and 80’s as well as the young that maybe in their early 20’s. Songs ranging from early 50’s to current. People even danced next to the pool table. Fun to people watch. We ordered a plate of Nachos. A little on the small side, minimal toppings. Ok, not the best. Drinks were not too badly priced but they don’t carry my Grey Goose Vodka. It was a very entertaining evening and it was so nice to see so many different people all gathered in one place.

The food here was decent but didn’t stick out as anything that great. The eggs for the omelette were very thin(a good thing in my book) and the flavor was decent. The coffee left a lot to be desired(it was very transparent and weak. The service was decent as well.

We’ve driven by the Wayside a thousand times, but never stopped, so we decided to try it out for Breakfast on Sunday morning. One side of the building is the bar and the other side is the restaurant. Upon entering you’ll first notice it kind of smells stale and old inside, but not overwhelming, just like they maybe use to smoke in there a long time ago. We went ahead and sat ourselves since the waitress was busy in the kitchen, which wasn’t a problem since there was only one other table occupied. The waitress greeted us moments later with water and menu’s, we were very impressed with the level of service, however if this place ever got busy, I’m not sure they could keep up, it seemed only to be one waitress and a cook. The décor is old country kitchen /garden with cushy overstuffed booths and a funky old TV from the 70’s mounted on a corner wall and white wood lattice covering ceiling and some walls. it has a homey feeling to it like grandma decorated and everything seemed to be kept very clean and organized. The breakfast showed up on old Chinese food platters, which gave us a good chuckle, The portions were nice sized and everything tasted great and was cooked to perfection. Were not sure about the lunches or dinners, but breakfast here is recommended for sure! We even added some pictures of our meals if you want to take a look. We also understand this place has a popular weekend crowd in the evenings at the bar as well as Karaōke on certain nights and occasional live music.
