The good: A great Mother Goose story time and many other family-oriented activities, lots and lots of fun books and DVDs for kids, the puzzles are fairly clean, there’s a nice train table set up often for the kids to use, it’s a pretty library, lots of FREE parking(yes, free!), a nice, spacious & quiet area to study/read/work away from the children’s section… what more could you ask for?! Oh and there’s pretty little pond and tiny park right behind the library if you want to take a stroll or sit and read a book when the weather is nice. Overall, a great find! The not so good: I’ve found the library staff can have a bit of a… hmm, «superior attitude» at times. Case in point: they rarely smile at you or your adorable baby(and who wouldn’t smile at an adorable baby!) and they easily dismiss those who are not Scarsdale residents. So what if I don’t live in Scarsdale? I still have a library card from a town next door and it allows me to use your facilities. But a few of the staff members have actually been pleasant and even upbeat so I’ll knock it down just one star. The grumpy ladies who work there should cheer up and then it could be a 5 star facility :-)

Plenty of study spaces in the general area near the circulation desk with a few additional private study rooms towards the back of the library. Quieter study area around the corner in the reference area. Great supply of books and knowledgeable and kind staff. At times, it can get noisy so please bring headphones if you are particularly sensitive to noise. They have recently allowed patrons to bring small snacks and beverages which is a change that I’m very grateful for. Plenty of free parking available. They offer many programs and events(listed on calendar in entryway and throughout the library)

Solid ilbrary. Nice staff. Having online access to Westchester libraries is a big plus and covers the library’s deficiencies. I downloaded The King in Yellow recently, while watching True Detective. I am a big library fan and think it’s important to hang out in them. Having the adjacent pond with resident turtles is a big plus.

If you like your library to share similarities with a children’s summer camp, a kindergarten classroom or the Build-a-Bear at the Westchester Mall then look no further — The Scarsdale Public Library is the place for you. It’s almost as if this library is a magnet for children with parents who either refuse to teach their children the definition of respect, or refuse to teach their children how to keep their mouths closed. Came on a Wednesday, early morning, found a table and had peace and quiet for about 15 minutes. Before I could realize what was happening, there was a kid being tutored behind me, a kid watching a movie in front of me. If you run the library, enforce the rules. If you bring a child to the library, have a little respect for other people.

Large amount of books. Many rooms to read, study. Children’s library is very nice, too. Many children’s books in foreign languages. Quite impressive. Free parking spaces, which is not always there for other libraries(such as Larchmont and East Chester).
