The Dark Horse

Not really into antiques and vintage stuff, but the stuff did look cool. The owner was really helpful when I asked for directions for another business in downtown Scarsdale. Deserves to be frequented more often!

Love this shop and have been back several times to buy. The owners, Sharon and David, are very interested in finding what you are looking for, and making sure that you are pleased with your purchase. In addition, I was able to get a referral for services that I am also going to review on Unilocal. They know the community well and are the consummate shopkeepers.

The Dark Horse is basically one of these pseudo old timey vintage shops where everything is actually brand new, albeit with a faded ‘Americana’ kind of feel. It’s all a bit off however, because, as the merchandise labels clearly say, it’s all made in China.
Yet, this place still has a very charming, almost hokey, feel to it. There are heaps of unique pieces here from mirrors to fixtures to peruse and the staff is quite friendly to deal with, so it’s not a terribly bad place to kill 10 – 15 minutes on a lazy afternoon.
In the end, the Dark Horse is just a copy of an old fashioned mom and pop antique store, the kind that once existed everywhere but are now, sadly, gone. Since you can’t get the real deal, this place will certainly do.
