Rieko is a chocolate genius, there’s no doubt about it. One taste of their selection and you will become a believer as well.

In this small industrial schaumburg storefront exist some of the best chocolates you will find just about anywhere. Creative flavors that are subtle but obviously present. Very high quality chocolate that has just the right amount of sweetness, not super sugary like some very well known brands cough, Godiva. Unfortunately now that I’m in nyc I get my chocolate fix from La Maison Du Chocolat which is unfortunately double if not more the price. These chocolates are a bargain considering the amount of effort and quality of ingredients. All of them are good but I would highlight the raspberry because it’s actually a true raspberry purée and not a cream and the curried chocolate almonds because they’re just really surprisingly tasty.

Tagged along with a friend that likes to pay $ 3 per piece of chocolate… and give little boxes away for Xmas. Got the chance to find this place that is seriously hidden away in some office park. The place is probably 20×15 total, and in serious disarray… packing boxes and shipping supplies lying around, next to random trays, boxed fruit, and whatever else should be packed away, rather than on display with the boxed merchandise and display cases. So I tried some samples during the 20 minute wait for service, and they were nothing special. I must be too-low brow, claustrophobic and thrifty… give me the international chocolates bin from Costco at $ 14 over the 4-piece tiffany box set here anyday… $ 58 – 60 I’d spend on boots… not sugar.

The flavor combinations are unique and delicious. Absolutely high quality and fine attention to detail. I love the truffles, caramelized nuts and chocolate bark. Chef Wada and her staff are wonderful. Happy to support a local business!

This little shop hidden in a obscure business center is putting out some world class chocolates. Chef Wada is a genius at extracting the natural flavor essence of an ingredient then blending it masterfully with her chocolate. Something as simple has a pear and caramel truffle can make you believe you just bit into a fresh pear. When you eat one of these creations you’ll notice distinct flavor changes as it melts in your mouth. Most memorable for me are Wada-sensei’s Pink Peppercorn, Curry Kieffer, and Basil Balsamic chocolates. I buy their chocolate as gifts to present to our special guests from Japan(and I usually bring some home for my wife too), and they are always impressed. Recently I’ve found that there are many imitators out there, but this place is the real thing.
