Ray’s HVAC

I had been dealing with Ray’s about 10 years and was always satisfied up to the last service call. My air was working but not cool enough. Within a few minutes, the service man said I needed a new thermostat to start with and quoted me $ 129 for non programmable (which he didn’t think he had) & $ 159 for programmable; Then he said i would probably need at least a pound of Freon. This was all before he even cleaned the outside unit. When I questioned the prices, saying the big box stores had lots in the $ 50 range, he became insulted. He said it was horrible being at my house. I responded that it was horrible having him there and that I did not want him to do anything. I told him to put everything back as it was and leave. I was so nervous about him that I called my dog in from the yard in case he was going to open the gate and let him out. I called the main office and explained he made me uncomfortable and that I didn’t trust his diagnosis.
This is a business based on trust. Once the trust is lost, it can’t be regained. The previous years of good dependable service were cancelled out.
The man who came out several days later had to rewire a switch in the outside unit that had been installed by a Ray’s technician in September 2014. Since the serviceman who made me nervous didn’t mention it, I am left to wonder if he was incompetent or if he caused the wiring problems.
Instead of being apologetic, the office has continued to bill me for the diagnostic visit.
