This is the place to go to buy a camera. The staff is so knowledgable, professional, and patient. Highly recommend this establishment.

I knew I wanted an ultra-​wide lens for my Canon t3i, but didn’t know which one. Tom gave great advice and let me try the lens right on my own camera in the store.
They were 10 minutes from closing when I walked in but he was friendly and patient just the same. When I came home, I checked Amazon for the price of the lens I bought, just out of curiosity.
It was only $ 30 more to buy local and get an expert opinion… plus I got a discount on the UV filter I bought with the lens. And, best part, I got to take it home right away.
This is a fantastic local shop and I will definitely go back next time I need/​want something new for my camera :)

Best of breed, because it’s pretty much the only one of its type left: the old-​school photo store.
What they do have: lots of classic optical photography gear, from lenses to drying paper to slide carousels to 16 mm film cartridges and just about everything you can imagine. They carry a lot of discontinued hard-​to-​find items, and seem to know just about everything there is to know about pre-​digital photography. They don’t seem to carry a lot of classic cameras in stock but we weren’t shopping for any today.
They do send their film out for development — hard not to, these days — but are extremely knowledgeable about just about everything about photography. They were quite willing to show us around and explain a few things we were curious about.
This is not the place to shop for the newest digital do-​bob camera. But if you have anything that requires true expertise in photography, I wouldn’t hesitate to go. Truly old-​school in every sense (the art deco façade is amazing), still downtown, and the kind of thing you want to see survive in a decaying/​reviving industrial city. I went to the Photo-​Lab about two months ago and talked to Tom for quite some time about his recommendations for a polarizing filter and zoom lens for my 60D. It’s always nice when you walk into a store for the first time, are greeted kindly and they take the time to answer any questions about photography that you may have.
Due to the fact that my first trip was pleasant I decided to go back when my 60D unexpectedly stopped working. I was once again greeted by Tom who took the time to analyze and address the issues I was having with the camera. Initially Tom couldn’t find a fix so he filled out a work order and said they would send it in for me and Canon would then give me an estimate via email.
It was pretty disheartening to hear that this fix was probably going to cost me $ 200 – 300 through Canon but during our short conversation Tom mentioned a few things that used to break all the time on certain camera models. Because he took the time to think of the potential issues and didn’t rush me out the door he tried one last thing and the camera came to life! It was great to have my camera back and not have to spend all that money to get it fixed. I will be doing a lot of business with the Photo-​Lab from now on!
