Me and my partner checked the store hours online on a Monday indicating plato’s closet would be open until 9pm to get rid of some clothes. We showed up at 8pm and the employees were locking up and would not let us in. We went back the next day(holding heavy boxes on both occasions) at 6pm on a Tuesday and made it not a foot into the store before the girl at the register snapped at us that if we wanted cash for clothes it would only happen at 10am and we would have to come back tomorrow. Neither of us had a chance to even speak at all, I had wanted to inform them the store hours were wrong online and that tomorrow would be a 3rd trip. This was the worst customer service of a business I have ever experienced and if I could rate schenectady plato’s closet less than 1 star I would. Never going back.

Let me start by saying that I have been coming to Plato’s closet for years now and used to absolutely love it. over the past year I’ve had a few bad experiences, but after today, I will never go back. I brought in a large bag clothes to sell and was told it would be about 45 minutes so I decided to hang out and shop around while I waited. After 40 minutes, they still had not even touched my stuff. And at that point there was only one girl working there(Danielle) who, instead of working since they were rather busy, she stood there and talked with a friend of hers that had come in. On top of that, they could easily be heard trash talking customers that were in the store still. After an hour I finally saw that they were finally working on my bag(after I had watched people come in, drop their stuff off to sell, and come back and get their money). However I also noticed that Danielle was the one going through my things. Danielle happens to be the younger sister of girl I had gone to high school with that does not like me very much. I was worried there would be a bias, but decided to not say anything as I hoped she would be professional. Now its been an hour and a half(twice as long as I was told I’d be waiting). I finally decided to ask one of the employees(as now there were 4 there) if anyone had finished my bag as I had been there for a long time. She comes over says that they are only taking afew pieces and were offering me 18 dollars and some change. I was quite confused as most of the things I had brought in I had only worn once or twice, were not old styles, weren’t stained or anything, weren’t «basic», as that’s one of their excuses for not taking things, and weren’t weird brands(which if they were it shouldn’t matter as they have things there that look like one of them just makes them and sells them). I asked to see the things they had not taken and why they didn’t want them and was given no answer just snotty remarks. I began getting frustrated and tried to voice my concerns. The girl that was working with me said I could talk to the manager and pointed to another young lady down at the other end of the store. The manager decided that it would be appropriate to try to have the conversation with me by yelling from across the store. That’s when I was done, said the same things I had said to the first girl(They’ve gone downhill, they were disrespectful and disprganized, and were clearly not paying attention to the clothes they are buying as they don’t buy my high quality stuff, but I walk around and see stained, frayed, dirty looking clothes being sold to the public. The manager was barely listening to me as made remarks, cutting me off, that were completely irrelevant and untrue. The first girl then decided to tel me not to be so rude and then threw receipt and pen at me as if I would actually sign for after her being the extremely rude one. This used to be an amazing establishment with great clothes to buy and friendly people to sell my clothes to. But now in the past year they have gone so downhill that I absolutely refuse to ever go back. I recommend that no one go here as they will be rude and condescending and wont take any of the quality clothes that you try to sell. Don’t waste your time, either donate your old clothes or sell them on poshmark(app).

Don’t go, rip off city. It’s insulting what they offer for your clothes and for what they charge for the«gently used» on the racks. You can find better deals in the stores sales rack. Don’t go!!!

I stopped in to check out their men’s section and was pretty disappointed. The store is over 90% women’s clothes with only a small rack of jeans and nasty old gym shorts for men. I wasn’t looking at brands, but the prices were reasonable at about $ 10 for a pair of jeans(on the pricier side of second hand clothes, but well within an acceptable range of prices). I can’t recommend this place for men, but women’s clothes were in abundance.
