Best Indian food in Capital District by far!!! Never judge a book by its cover, it is a small place, but what she cooks in the kitchen is amazing! The chicken vindaloo is not so spicy you can’t taste anything else for days, instead it is just the right amount of hot. The tikka masala is delicious! And the owners are so sweet and nice, get people to sit and talk with!

The first time we came, dinner was delicious and fresh. Service was excellent. However the lunch buffet at our last visit left a lot to be desired. There was zero service. We had to help ourselves to the drinks in the cooler, the soda cans were dirty and covered in black dust. It’s a buffet but there was hardly any choices and nothing looked fresh. Just a lot of sauce with no meat. No tags to identify what the food was. The only good thing was the naan. We had to find someone to pay and when we left we noticed the door was dirty and gross. I don’t know what’s happened but it seems like this place has gone downhill. If you normally get delivery, I think you should check out the inside for a pickup order instead. You might change your mind about eating here when there are several more options for good Indian food in the area.

this place is amazing, the food is always delivered timely and all of the staff is extremely polite and very pleasant. they have exceptional vegetarian options (which are delicious) and perfect portions for any meal.

Visited Taj Mahal in Schenectady on the night before Thanksgiving, and it’s my second visit. I’m just learning about Indian food at this late date in life, so bare with me. Both meals have been delicious. On my first visit, I ordered chicken biryani… I ordered it mild and it still had a significant amount of heat, yet I couldn’t stop eating it.
On the second visit, I tried the chicken tikka masala with rice and warm naan… oh, baby. It was nothing short of stick-to-your-ribs delicious. The sauce was creamy, savory and spiced just right. Ordered channa chaat for an appetizer and it was served with two dips, one tamarind and the other a green sauce made with cilantro that was so good I wish I could have taken a bottle of the stuff home. Even the rice was cooked perfectly, not sticky at all.
Owner is very friendly and glad to serve. Love the Indian music videos on TV, too. Will be back soon.

this review is from a very, very long time ago. My friends & I used to order Taj Mahal to our dorm. I really wish I could order the Chicken Tikka Masala from here now but I live so far away.
The prices are very reasonable around ($ 9 – 10) for each meal and comes with rice. We order naan separately and it was delicious, the mango lassi is also very good.
I remember a week after Hurricane Sandy we tried to order Indian but they told us that their basement was flooded. The woman on the phone was able to make an exception for me. When my friend and I went outside to wait for the take out car we didn’t notice the car that was standing in the middle of the parking lot was for us. We felt so bad that we made the car wait for over 15 minutes!
Anyways, thanks Taj Mahal for the memories. I look forward to going back one day.

I just ordered take from Taj Mahal, I’ve eaten at most Indian restaurants in the area and the food was awesome. I am also a huge heat addict and the lamb vindaloo I ordered was by far the hottest I’ve ever had, even beating out the phaal at karavali. Definitely check it out.

This place should close down as it is totally understaffed and they simply don’t know how to run a restaurant. Food is Ok but unless you are OK waiting for 2 hours to pick up an order that was supposed to be ready for pick up in 1 hour, try many other Indian restaurant around town. I observed patrons in every table looked pissed or ready to leave because there was no service.

I’ve eaten here several times, and I’ve nearly always had a good experience. The food is very good, and the owner is extremely friendly and works very hard to make sure every customer is happy.
We had just one bad experience, where the restaurant was also serving food for a nearby play, and was dramatically understaffed. I wish there had been better communication that day that there would be a significant delay getting our food… but I can also understand that they had a lot going on, and it’s sometimes hard to keep everything in order. It’s never happened since!
Whenever we’re in the area, we usually stop in and have a quick meal. As far as Indian places go, this one is our favorites in a very large area!
