The Hellions of Troy Presents: Herculadies vs Mid-Hudson Misfits

From epic pun-​filled names (Ophelia Knockers and Heywood Jabugoff) and wing-​flapping, fast moving action, this bout of roller derby was a great way to spend a Saturday evening. Held in a roller rink not far off I-​90 and I-​890 decked out in a variety of colorful lights and no fewer than a half dozen disco balls. Upon arrival, we received a program complete with the players, sponsors, and a quick half-​page introduction to the rules and terms of roller derby. Even though my partner in derby and I were rather new to the sport, we caught on pretty quickly.
All in all a fun evening, but, word to the wise, arrive early so you don’t hurt your butt from sitting on the floor.

As an up and coming skater, I love coming to these events. It’s so inspiring to see the way this league works together, and how badass these women can be. I love that every bout the league picks a charity to donate to, despite being such a small organization. Roller derby bouts are a fun time for the whole family, too! There’s a snack bar as well as games and even a booth to get glitter tattoos! The merchandise is all good quality as well, I highly recommend the sweat pants! So cozy!
