Wolf Hollow is about halfway between Amsterdam and Scotia, just west of I-890 on Rt 5. And If it weren’t for a post on a local blog about a BBQ restaurant opening up in the brewery, I never would have heard about these guys. There’s plenty of seating inside, and when I was there on a cold January afternoon, they had a gas stove running that made the large space quite toasty. They had 8 beers on tap, ranging from a Belgian wit on the light end, to a porter and a stout on the dark end of the spectrum. For only $ 6, they offer a 5 pour sampler. I tried the wit, an amber ale, their IPA, the porter, and a Belgian pale ale. The standouts for me were the Belgian wit, and the porter. The wit was especially good, and it reminded me of Ommegang’s Hennepin, one of my favorite beers. That’s interesting, because before I left, I chatted a bit with the brewer, and he told me he interned at Ommegang. I intended to bring my growler, and have them fill it if anything struck my fancy, but I forgot to bring it, and now I’m kicking myself because I would have loved to fill it up with the wit. The growler prices are quite reasonable too. So if you come, bring your growler, though they do sell containers here should you forget your’s like I did. As I mentioned, there’s also a BBQ stand within the brewery so you can fill your belly with more than just beer. Lastly, they claim on their website they’re family friendly, and I saw a shelf with a few games, crayons, coloring books, and cards on it, so don’t be afraid to bring the little ones with you.
