My school comes here for both formal and prom. The Halls always do a great job of hosting the events, and it is a great space. The bathrooms are always clean, which for me is an extremely important factor. The only qualm I really have is the size of the Hall does not support enough people. I feel like it can certainly support more than it says it is able to, and many people are left out of high school dances as a result.

As a vendor, I’ve been to many different venues for proms, weddings, and tons of different events. The Halls of St. George really only grabbed my attention from the gigantic building itself. Nothing too spectacular about this place. If you’re looking for sheer size, come on in. This place is for you. The room I was in held about 500 people easily. Note for vendors, the power situation on the stage is pretty awesome, with two separate circuits on both sides of the stage. If you have anything on casters though, have fun pushing it on the quicksand carpet. Only thing that caught me off guard was the sorry state of the bathrooms. Exposed piping, peeling wallpaper, and one of the stalls didn’t even lock or shut properly. If I was coming here as a patron checking out places for my wedding, this would definitely deter me.

Been here perhaps a half a dozen times and it is consistently a winner. St. George Serbian Orthodox Church at 905 East Joliet in Schererville Indiana(where Broad Street hits Joliet Street just a few blocks north of US30) is the anchor for this establishment. The parish built the Halls of St. George as its banquet facility right next to the church. While the Halls of St. George is used for many activities of the church, it is also for rent to interested parties in the surrounding area for weddings and other major occasions. Additionally, it offers special brunches and dinner during the year. The Halls of St. George sits up to 1,000 but can also be used for parties as small as 75. There are lots of options here. For example, weddings can be arranged in the facility or outside in a gazebo they have on the property … we have been to a wedding here and it was special. They have an extensive catering menu for these special events. Two of their big public events are Mothers Day and Easter Sunday. We were there this Easter Sunday for brunch and it was a five star production as usual. The hall was set for about 900 and they sold out for a number of sittings from 11 am through 3 pm. Besides all the regular breakfast offerings(inc. blintzes), they also had a made-to-order omelet station. Speaking of stations … they also had a carving station with beef, ham, and lamb. Another set up had fried chicken, fried cod, stuffed shells, and tortellini and Caesar salads. And for potatoes … how about breakfast, mashed, and boiled red. A dessert table was overflowing with choices(mmm…Tiramisu), and it was accompanied by a number of fruit trays(mmm…chocolate covered strawberries). Another added touch was the Mimosa/Poinsettia fountain … it is a bit like a chocolate fountain but here the champagne flows out a series of nozzles for a do-it-yourself operation … you fill your long stem glass as desired and then pour in orange juice or cranberry juice if desired — return as often as you like and it is all included(brunch = $ 30 per, complete). There is a cash bar for those that need a bit more. This event usually sells out, so reservations are recommended. They only accept cash and checks, so leave your plastic at home. Come on out on one of their special events or any Friday night for dinner … you’ll be glad you did. And yes the Easter Bunny was there too.
