Super Low Foods(formerly Friendly Supermarket) is relatively cheap, I’ll give it that. There’s also a good variety of Polish and Mexican foods, which makes sense for the area and is always a treat. But there’s really not much overall selection and the place always seems a little cramped and a little dirty. I’ll come here for some foreign groceries I might want, or if I happen to be nearby, but otherwise it’s just ok.

Caputo’s in Elmwood Park ruined all grocery stores for me. Now, wherever I go, I compare the store to Caputo’s. I was lured into Super Low Foods by a nice sale they had on berries. I eat them with my oatmeal every morning, so I stock up on strawberries and such weekly. Anyhow, the parking lot was strangely snowed over, but they had some nice music playing out of the speaker outside the entrance. I walked in and headed straight for the produce section. I found the berries I was looking for, but they looked a bit anemic. In fact, most of the produce looked sad. And they had no pre-sliced mushrooms. And no baby bellas. Boo… They carry a small selection of ethnic foods, but I was not able to find my favorite Polish lemon balm tea. So I bought some Wasa instead. I was hoping there would be an in-store bakery, but it looked like all the breads came pre-packaged. And there was no fresh bread smell. Fortunately, this store carried my favorite low-cal low-sugar bread specially made for diabetics, which I am not, but like this bread for its light taste and fluffiness. It was a bit pricey, though. While looking at the bread selection, I couldn’t help but notice that their deli cheeses were very nicely priced. Had I not already bought some earlier this week, I would have gotten a pound of Provolone for under 4 bucks. The back of the store is your typical crap aisle — chips, pre-fabricated cakes and misc. junk foods. I have to give them a full star for putting this most undesirable section out of the way. If you’re like me and refuse to push a cart, you will have no more room in your basket for junk by the time you get to it. In conclusion, this store did not capture me. The prices were reasonable, but not better than at my dear Caputo’s. Unless there is a mega sale on something I really want(and it’s not as wimpy as those poor strawberries), I may come back.

their produce is kicking all the other nearby grocery stores right in the sack as far as i’m concerned.
