Eric’s Salon

I brought my 12 year old son here. Every other place I called was too busy to take him that day. We walked in, no wait, no customers. This should have told me something. I listened as my son told him exactly what he wanted. My son has been talking to hair dressers a long time, is a great communicator and has never had an issue. Eric says, OK and begins. I watch for a second and all looks fine. My phone pings, I read a text and reply. I look up and to my horror my sons head in the cack is pretty much bald! I said oh wait, show my son his head and my son says to Eric, I said a little off the back, trim around my ears and not much off the front. Eric starts arguing that if he wanted it trimmed around the ears it had to be the same length everywhere! Oh my poor son, he tried to talk to him but this man was yelling at my son that he did not describe right! Needless to say we walked out. My son in tears. My visit to Erics was costly. We immediately had to go buy a hat which cost $ 20. then the repair haircut was near $ 40. The hairdresser we saw was amazed at the mess my sons hair was in. My sons hair is much shorter than it ever has been or he ever wanted it to be. This place was horrible! Not only the hair cut but also the way he spoke to my child. Never Again!

Eric got me a spot on the day I called, was extremely fast, did a great job, and was very nice! I will be going back =)

Eric highlights and cuts my hair. He’s fantastic. I started going to him cuz he cuts my boyfriends hair. He always does an awesome job. Plus he’s fast and I love that.

I agree with Renee A. — Eric does great women haircuts at a fraction of the price of most other salons.
My experience was exactly what I wanted. I walked in without an appointment, told him what I wanted (nearly 8 inches chopped off), told him I just wanted a cut — no wash or style nonsense. Trying to save money and keep the appointment brief. He straightened my dry hair, cut it, layered it, put some product in it, and I was good to go in 20 minutes. And I love the cut. He is not chatty or overly friendly, but he was polite and clearly focused on his work. Certainly can’t complain about that! In fact, I appreciate not having to make small talk. Just let me relax while you make my hair look good :)

Hi everyone. I want you all to know that I waited a week to post this just in case letting my hair grow out would stop my daily disgust.
It didn’t…
Ok, it’s a week later and my haircut still is horrible. I read the reviews and called for an appointment. Eric was available that afternoon (great).
I printed out pictures of what I wanted to have done to avoid confusion. When I entered the shop I was greeted not with the ‘nice bottle of water’ others describe or the ‘funny hospitable’ person even others describe. I was greeted by a man with a frown and furrowed eyebrows. Wow…
… And the frown never left during the whole time I was there.
He sat me down quickly without many words beyond ‘hello’. Asking what I wanted I said ‘a directional or curtain cut as it is know from my research… sort of a fohawk’. He looked confused so I showed him the pictures. There were two pics with slightly different versions so he could see front and side shots. I actually got into a slight argument because I kept saying I wanted it to look more like pic#1 but he kept pointing to pic #2 saying ‘but this other has shorter hair’ and I kept having to repeat myself saying ‘I know… but I want it to look more like this one with longer hair on top”.
He quickly went to work in a rush of activity. Not much feedback or words from him and it seemed he wanted me out of his shop quickly.
When completed he put gel and combed it back saying ‘is it ok’ and I have to admit looking at it greased back it looked ‘ok’. So I paid and left after only spending 15 minutes there.
And then when I got home and combed my hair out I realized that the left side of my hair is at least an inch longer than the right. it was a complete chop job and completely uneven. Horrible horrible haircut and pretty rude service to be honest.
Unfortunate for the summer as I now have to grease it back so as to not be embarrassed. Pomade is now my friend. I kinda feel like Fonzie… Ehhhhhhh.
Although I think it is Eric’s Salon that ‘Jumped The Shark Tank’.

This dude was amazing. Funny, hospitable (got us coffees as we waited) and the haircut was great! I would highly recommend!

Eric can cut and style hair like ringing a bell. Great cut here great price and a nice guy to boot. I dropped in and got a cut in less than 20 minutes. Highly recommend.

Eric is fantastic. I went in on the weekend and his schedule was open, which was very nice. First thing after sitting, he offered me a drink, I graciously accepted some chilled bottled water.
After a quick discussion, he understood the look that I wanted immediately and flew into action!
Watching Eric work is kind of like watching a chef at a dinner show. His comb and scissors are flipping back and forth as he details every hair from different directions. He really did an amazingly thorough job with no hair out of place. He consciously cleaned hair from my forehead every few minutes.
After about 20 minutes he was all finished with a little bit of product to keep the look in place. I was very happy with the results and it has been very easy to style for the past 3 weeks. I am looking forward to returning!

I absolutely Love Eric’s Salon! Not only does he provide excellent care and service to his clients but he does a stinking great job. I have been coming here for a few years now and I am never dissatisfied. Eric is the best.

Best haircut in the area. Started cutting my hair, then took my 16 year old daughter there to fix her hair, after her salon did a poor job. Now my daughters, son and wife have their hair cut by Eric. Fantastic stylist. Best in Scotts Valley, and Santa Cruz area in my opinion.

Fantastic haircut, fantastic service. I’ve been to many barbers and salons in the Santa Cruz and the area… he’s by far my favorite. Easy to make an appointment, he’s rarely behind, and the price is right, too. I’ll be going here for as long as he’s open.

My husband and son who is now 6 have been going to Eric for several years now. He does a great job, and is fast, and affordable.

Great haircut. You can tell Eric has been cutting hair for a long time. He is very technically competent, expeditious, and fairly inexpensive.
Two suggestions — call or text him for an appt. although he takes walk-​ins. Second, wash your hair before you come in so you don’t have to do that process and cuts down on the cost.

Just found a great place for men’s hair cut. I walked in for the first n Eric offered me a nice bottle of cold water n made me feel right at home n yes a great haircut.

Eric made me love my hair again!!! After searching for a good salon and enduring bad haircut after bad haircut, I finally found someone I can rely on to give me a great haircut. To begin, he cut my hair while it was wet and then finished after drying it just enough to get the feel for how it lays naturally and then completed the shaping and thinning. My hair is thick and has a mind of it’s own. This technique makes all a big difference. He took his time and I walked out feeling beautiful for the first time in two years. He also cut my son’s hair and was able to give him the style he asked for exactly.
I’m done with super expensive salons, the poor quality and the obnoxious attitude that goes with them.
Eric is not only a talented stylist, he is also a lot of fun to talk with as well.
If you are looking for a great haircut at an incredible price, this is the place to go.

I’ve been visiting Eric’s Salon (formerly known as Haircut #1) for at least five years, and remain fully satisfied with Eric’s quality cuts, attention to detail, and great talent at making hair look great. He has styled my wife’s hair several times, leaving her as gorgeous as always, and recently we’ve starting bringing our two-​year-​old son for trims. (And while most of the time Eric does the cuts himself, those times I’ve been seen by someone else on his team, the results are just as good!)
I really appreciate having Eric and his salon in our town. A friendly guy who does great work, and is even willing to come in on days off when needed… I look forward to Eric’s Salon providing our family hair needs for years to come.

After too many haircuts we did not like in Scotts Valley for years, my wife stumbled upon Eric on Unilocal and took our kids there. They were quite happy with the cut. Then I went myself and finally found somebody that understood the way I wanted it. He is a great guy and deserves strong support from Scotts Valley.

Excellent hair cut for a reasonable price. I tried to find a good, afordable place to cut mens hair in Scotts Valley for years. Once I tried haircut Number One I never go anywhere else. Great service. He even gives you a bottle of water when you go in. Don’t be turned away by the name, location or accent. It really is a number one haircut.

Eric knows how to cut and style hair. After a couple of times there, he even suggested changing my haircut and I decided to go with it, and it was such an improvement I kept it ever since.
In the last 3 years I have always gotten my haircuts from Eric, and have since brought both my kids there and have always been happy with Eric’s top-​notch work. Highly recommended!
