Cinco de Mayo Salsa Festival at El Pedregal

Muy agradable! Who wouldn’t enjoy so much local color and flavor, in a beautiful setting on a cool spring day? I attended the one today with my friend and fellow Unilocaler John M. This annual salsa festival features several chefs from the valley offering guests samples of their salsas (I enjoyed the corn and nopalito salsa the best). To liven things up even more, there was music by the female mariachi group, Mariachi Pasion and salsa dance performances by Tropical Vibes Dance Company. Beverages and other foods such as carne asada tacos, carnita burritos, and various desserts could be purchased by those who want more stick-​to-​the-​ribs fare. It was quite the fun event … although John and I agreed that, with the fire from all the salsas we sampled, the rich flan that we bought should have been consumed at the end of our salsa sampling session, rather than at the middle like we did; dairy is known to help tone down the heat from chilies!
