I consider myself a user of all pools — I guess due to my delusional yet optimistic hope that one day I will be a fast swimmer. So although I dip my toes into different pools, El Dorado is my home pool and it is a great pool. It is opened year-round so you never have an excuse not to go swimming. They also have all the toys(kickboards, fins, paddles) and they just recently added a pace clock. It is $ 2 and you also get access to the weight room. The weight room is well stocked, if you are okay using machines instead of barbells. They do have dumb bells, cables, weighted balls, yoga balls, benches, stair mills, treadmills and stationary bikes. And, a TV! The nice thing, especially if you forget your shorts and lift weights in your bikini bottoms, is that the weight room is empty most of the time. You don’t have to worry about anyone ogling you, judging your form, or wondering why you are not wearing shorts. During the summer it is a fun place to bring kids. They have a kid pool that is only 2 feet deep. But, don’t worry, no kids allowed in the weight room!

If you live near South Scottsdale, and you want to give your kids swimming lessons, I highly recommend the City of Scottsdale’s El Dorado pool. Their lifeguards, and instructors, are patient, energetic and have great ways to teach toddlers to adults to swim or improve their strokes. This is my 8 year old’s second year taking lessons here and she went from being very scared of going under the water to being a little otter who now dives to the bottom of the pool. This year she is learning to improve her strokes(they even teach Butterfly) and is taking diving. I’ve taken water aerobics which is a great class and the instructor was wonderful(Amy) One note: Some of the women in the Water Aerobics classes or in the Aches Away classes have been going here since 1991 and think they own the pool. — You know who you are you mean, catty old biddies!
