Right smack in the middle of Old Scottsdale along the«Artwalk The Line» path, exploding out of the traffic circle is a round fountain with horses jumping out of it at all side. As a tourist, it was practically begging me to toy with traffic. «Dale! Stand in the street! Those cars going about their business want to wait so you can take a selfie with prancing blue horses in the background.» Hey! If that’s not worth risking your life for, what is?! Somehow, I wound up using my better judgement and stayed on the sidewalk. It was a close call — a close call that got me thinking: What is the story behind this attention grabbing display of public art? If the artist were to take all of his inspiration and wrap it up into a single title to be etched into a plaque for people to read for the next century; what would he call it? *drum roll please* «Horse Fountain.» Ohhhh! I get it… Because it’s a fountain and there are horses. I see what you did there. That aside, this is a pretty cool piece of public art. I have no doubt that this is a really popular spot for tourist photos. You cross the street directly to it and then walk around the centre of the traffic circle. They’ve paid special attention to keeping these horses to scale and well, anatomically correct. I did notice that only the horses that are on four legs are«equipped,» and the ones reared up on their hind legs are not. Here are a few reasons I’ve come up for this and I’ll leave it to you to pick the best answer: 1. Only female bronze horses stand on their hind legs when fountain frolicking. 2.
