Smallcakes Cupcake and Creamery

Cupcakes that look pretty and are tasty are hard to come by so I was excited when I saw all the great reviews Smallcakes had from their other locations prior to this one opening. The first cupcake I had was their sundae one. Unfortunately, it was dry and too sweet. I also sample the carrot ice cream that everyone raves about and thought it was way too sweet and tasted like frosting. Mind you I normally scrape the frosting off of things with a few exceptions. Since then, I have tried a few other cupcakes and were presently surprised. The first one I had must have been a bad batch. The others were moist and I still took off some of the frosting of the others. The margarita flavored one I had was the best. They’re a little pricey but if cupcakes are your thing, definitely give this place a shot!

Had to leave another review. My daughter bought me gluten-​free cupcakes for my birthday today and they were phenomenal! Best gluten-​free cupcakes in town!

We love cupcakes! We’ve tried Gigi’s, 21 Cakes, Sprinkles, you name it. These were far and away the best cupcakes in our opinion. The cake is so light, fluffy and moist, the icing light and flavorful and not too much. We tried chocolate peanut butter, vanilla with pink frosting, chocaholic, a brownie, and the hot fudge Sunday cupcake (to die for).
This will be our place! We’ll be back!

In town for the weekend, found them on Unilocal and drove 20 minutes. Disappointed to get there at 7:18p (says they close at 8p) only to find the sign is off, furniture was being moved in and staff said they’re closed.

overall these cupcakes were fantastic, i tried the salted caramel, lemon filled and chocolate peanut butter.
my favorite was the salted caramel, i actually ate it the day after i bought it and the cake was still moist and the frosting still fresh and creamy. the lemon was good except i was expecting a curd filling but it was a sort of gelatinous lemon filling which i didn’t care for, if they used an actual curd filling it would be an A.
as for the chocolate peanut butter cupcake, the chocolate cake was moist but the frosting had no peanut butter flavor, if it weren’t for the crumbled pb cup on top i would have guessed it to be choco cake with vanilla frosting, still tasty though.
i will def be back, hands down better than sprinkles which i live 2 blocks from and has terrible cupcakes :(

Glad we found this place! Really great custom ice cream flavors, very friendly people and the cup cakes look delicious delicious also. Highly recommended.
It a little hard to find from the Unilocal directions, but go the left side of Safeway and you’ll see it back at the corner suite.

Just happened to spot this hidden gem while riding my bike to coffee in the same plaza (Noci). As a cupcake lover, who has visited the other cupcake shops, I had to stop in at this new find and am so glad I did. The incredibly friendly owner filled me in on all the FYI about ingredients, options, etc. While I didn’t buy anything this trip, I was provided with a DELICIOUS cupcake sample. Perfect ratio of cake to frosting and the cupcake was perfectly moist.

They offer a great variety of flavors. The cupcakes are moist and very flavorful. This is definitely one of my go to places for cupcakes.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place! From the glorious smell and utter bliss that consumes you at the door, to the wonderful customer service and delicious desserts that you leave with; this place is a 10 out of 10.
The cupcakes are light, moist, and always exceed my expectations. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The only bad thing is that I am addicted!
And don’t even get me started on how amazing their ice cream is. It’s so creamy and delicious, and the all of the flavors seriously blow my mind. Try a couple samples before you decide, I was skeptical about a carrot cake ice cream, but omg, its incredible. Also, the strawberry is one of the best ice creams I’ve ever tried… and usually I am not even a fan of strawberry ice cream.
I have seen some of their custom cakes, both in person and on their Facebook page, and they are gorgeous.
I am not gluten free, but they do offer gluten free options for all those who are interested!
Seriously though, try this place. They even have pup-​cakes, and all of the dogs in my family love them… and my aunt’s dog is ridiculously picky.

Stopped in to check this little local spot out a couple weeks ago. Had a red velvet cupcake — it was yummy. Very fluffy cupcake with a not too sweet cream cheese frosting… exactly how I like it! Inhaled in two bites lol. Husband had the vanilla cupcake with sprinkles — good cupcake fix. Dangerously close to my house Ha!

Now THESE are cupcakes!!! I took the advice from my fellow « Unilocalers» and decided to try this place. They didn’t have the regular cupcakes that they usually have because of Valentine’s day. So I decided to try the red velvet! I’m so glad I made the right choice. Everything, from the perfect tasting icing to the light and moist cake, was just amazing. I tried not to eat it too fast so I could thoroughly enjoy it, but it was sooo good. It’s good to have another favorite cupcake place besides sprinkles. I will definitely be back to try the other flavors as well as the ice cream.

These are the best cupcakes ever!!! The cake is very moist and it’s a pretty generous size. I love this place! The décor is also really cute inside. They have ice cream there too, which I will try next time. Wayyy better than Sprinkles. This place is worth a try!

I was in town visiting the nearby Gateway Academy and stopped by here to get some dessert after lunch.
I was very impressed with the customer service. The woman working took the time to give us a detailed description of every single cupcake available. She was friendly and attentive.
The two cupcakes I tried were the lemon and the salted caramel crunch. Both were excellent but the latter is probably the best cupcake I’ve ever eaten. It was phenomenal!
The store was brightly lit, clean, and had lots of good options available. There was a steady stream of customers in and out during our visit. The prices are slightly higher than I would expect but not horrible. Well worth it for how tasty their cupcakes are. I will definitely be back here again.

Everything our family has ever consumed from smallcakes is fantastical!
Every person who works there is super friendly every time we have walked in the door. They will explain everything that they offer and you can tell they all really enjoy working at smallcakes together :)
Their flavors change frequently, some even daily.
Today I had this carrot ice cream. I was a little hesitant, at first, but after I asked to try it… Oh my Goodness!!! This is one of the most unique and delicious ice creams I have ever consumed in my life! It was a flavor I think I would see on a food channel competition show, where they need to make spectacular desserts.
Items are made daily. Great for birthday desserts.
I’m a 5 star fan for life! They also support our community!

OHHH MMMYYYY FREAKING GOODNESS!
I have the biggest sweet tooth possible and love a good cupcake. Heard about this place the other day and drove there tonight to pick some up for a special treat for my daughter and I. There was a super sweet young girl working who explained about the cupcakes and their homemade ice cream. She really lit up about the cupcakes and then got super excited when I asked about the ice cream. She is the epitome of who you want working for you.
Okay on to the deliciousness… we ended up getting 6 cupcakes and a brownie cupcake thingie. So far we have only tried the lemon cupcake and the red velvet. I was full after 2 halves so we will try more tomorrow. I am a red velvet fanatic and am on a mission to find the best. This place is darn near the top of my list. Rich, moist cake and a sweet and tangy frosting… just the way proper red velvet should be. Not overly sweet but still sweet and has that little tang. Lemon was superb as well. Sweet and tangy too. Had a nice little surprising lemon custard in the middle.
Before I left, the girl working offered to let us sample some of the ice cream. She highly recommended the caramel, which was pure heaven. I also tried the 24 karat, which was equally delicious. Amazing flavors that tasted better than probably any ice cream I’ve ever had. So good!
I’ve tried many of the cupcakes places in Scottsdale and this is by far the best.

Great neighborhood cupcake spot. All of the cupcakes were delicious, but they had a fall themed cupcake that was off the charts! They even do little pup cakes for dogs!

I was driving home a few weeks ago and zeroed in on what seemed to be a new bakery in my ‘hood. Woohooo!!!
Yesterday I had off work and promised myself a trip to this new sweet spot.
Sweet indeed!!! Sweet ice cream, sweet cupcakes, sweet employees!!! I stood frozen, paralyzed with indecision. I was praying they would be more than just good frosting like Sprinkles. Prayers answered, Hallelujah!!!
After asking a question about almost each cupcake I settled on the employees recommendation, the chocolate sundae cupcake. First let me tell you I’m an icing girl. At a birthday party my plate is always left with scraped/​licked off icing and a plate of cake. At Smallcakes my plate was left half and half. Only reason I didn’t eat the whole thing is bc it is indeed very sweet. Delicious moist cake, delicious icing, delicious filling. My only recommendation would be more center filling, but I’m pretty gluttonous so it can’t be really held against Smallcakes.
I also sampled their fresh made ice cream. There are approx 8 flavors I think but I tried the Carrot cake and Cookies and Cream. Both sssooo fresh tasting and amazingly delish!
This place will likely generate a ton of traffic in an otherwise unsuspecting plaza. Get your cupcaking on, Unilocalers!!!

Brand new wonderful cupcake and ice cream shop! These cupcakes are delicious. So many flavors you need to buy a dozen. The ice cream is creamy and luscious! The customer service was top notch! Put this fantastic cupcakery on your list when you need a little sweetness in your day!
