So being a kid who grew up in the San Gabriel Valley section of L.A. County and raised on Manuel’s El Tepeyac in the Boyle Heights Area near Downtown L.A. Chicano’s is lucky to get 2 stars from me! For the inexperienced«Mexican Foodie» this place might be great when compared to Taco Bell or Chipotle but with bland sauces and greasy foods in general I would call this spanish influenced food before I would call it Mexican food. The level of quality is most notable in the price, but when you use cheap ingredients, you can get away with charging less for it… The bigger deal here is the served it faster than expected, but 95% of mexican is «prepped» in the morning so heating it up and plating it makes it fast in service… Honestly if you like any place in Scranton or the whole valley over Garibaldi’s…well then you are not a true«Mexican» foodie!

The food is delicious and fresh! Vegetarian burrito and vegetarian enchiladas are both really good. Feels like you’re right in her kitchen and there’s a really homey atmosphere. Don’t be put off by the location, there’s a little parking in the back so pull around. The portions are big for the prices you’re paying and service is fast.

I’ve always been told to try Chicano’s. While it was good, it certainly wasn’t great. Maybe I just need to go back to try something else. The portions were huge and guacamole was good. Not great. I will say it was so cheap that I thought our bill was wrong!

After a disastrous dining experience at Don Pancho Villa and an unexpected extra night stay I decided to try out this place. Well happy to say was not disappointed. Coming from Jackson Heights, Queens were Spanish is king I certainly know about authentic Mexican food. I ordered the plate of Carnitas and they came out PERFECT! Nice and moist just how I like them. Together with the Aqua de Jamaica, which tasted much better then when I make it at home :(my meal was perfect. Now the only thing bad and it was mentioned in another review is that this place serves no sour cream. I run into this issue once in a while at an Mexican restaurant and I just don’t understand it… gringos like sour cream just that simple… Also the chips while ok could be better a bit bland not much flavor. The salca was nice and picante; no issues there… On my next trip to Scranton would certainly eat here again… :)

I would say this place has pretty decent Mexican food for Scranton, but it is by no means up to par with what you get in CA. Just overall, our food was bland and lacked flavor. We really don’t have any REALAUTHENTIC Mexican restaurants in this area, so I feel like this is the best we’re going to get. Yes it was a lot of food, tasted decent, satisfied my Mexican food craving, but I was not at all impressed. I’m from CA and there are hundreds of Mexican food restaurants, food trucks, and taquerias in each town, they simply offer better food, more flavorful salsas, and unique real authentic dishes(like fish baked in banana leaves for example). Call me a Mexican food snob, I just know good Mexican and the food I ate today was okay.

Not near as authentic or tasty as the reviews make it seem. That being said, it’s definitely not a bad spot. Safe travel choice.

I feel guilty eating here. I feel like I’m cheating these people who can somehow serve me this gigantic plate packed with amazing food no more than fifteen minutes after ordering it. How can the prices be this low? How can the portions be this big? Why does it taste so much better than every other Mexican place in the area? How do I purchase Jarritos Soda in bulk? So many questions, but one conclusion: Chicano’s is the best.

This is the second time here and I’m NEVER going again. Service is horrible. The waitress with the attitude really needs to go. Ordered the enchilada verde and when I picked it up I asked if the sour cream was in the bag and she said it doesn’t come with sour cream. So I showed her the menu for the restaurant that was right next to her on the counter which she’s obviously never read and she said«uh er um that the menu for like the prospect ave one or something but it doesn’t include sour cream» I have no idea what she meant by that but that’s really lame and so is this sour-cream-less enchilada, so bye bye Chicanos! I’ll just go to one of the other hundred or so Mexican joints…

I have been going here since their original location in south side, on prospect avenue I think. It’s been close to ten years and I can’t stop going back. The food never ceases to amaze me. I’ve never once tried something from the menu that wasn’t absolutely delicious. Completely on point. Try the wet burrito with the green sauce. Great horchata and a fine establishment. 100 percent. Usually if you’ve been going somewhere for so long, you will have at least one bad experience. That’s not the case with Chicanos. I was compelled to write this review because it is so unbelievably tasty and I’m appreciative of all the great experiences over the years. If you’re sleeping on this place, then what the heck is wrong with you. Go order it now!

My absolute favorite Mexican place for lunch. As authentic Mexican as I have found since leaving California. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

I have yet to have a bad experience here. Tasty chipotle dip. Best«dry» chicken burrito I ever had. Full of spice and flavor and they are perfect every time. Tacos are excellent too. Very well priced and excellent customer service.

Chicano’s tends to be the favorite Mexican place in the Scranton area probably because they were the first family owned business to truly succeed BUT I think Italo’s has the better quality food, bigger portions, and more variety on their menu. I would recommend their wet burritos, but my favorite is their pozole. They’re the only Mexican restaurant(I believe) that has pozole on their menu. You can get either chicken or pork pozole and it’s delicious, and you also get tosadas with it as well.

Best Mexican around! Service is quick as a bunny. Everything is homemade and fresh! I get their chicken tacos every time. Very reasonable pricing. Veggie options! They also take credit and debit, which is cool.

Chicano’s is a surprise diamond in the rough for Scranton. The authentic homemade food coming out of this family owned and operated restaurant are top-notch. The pricing is very reasonable for the portions, and personally I’d recommend the wet chicken burrito. This place is definitely a must-see if you’re touring Scranton foods.

Ok disappointed because the reviews I read this placewas supposeto be amazing and it was far from it. First I ordered the burrito mojado and they served it with American cheese on top??? Wtf is right and than I order the pozole and even worst it reeked of adobo and was greasy and reddish orange like they bathed it in sazon utter disapointment won’t ever come back here again Ps the mole poblano was mediocre

La comida fue fantastica, fresca, sabrosa y un poco picante como la mejor comida mexicana. Estoy listo volver. Los meseros son agradable tambien. La comida alla es mas que una comida es la experiencia en total.

As some of the other reviewers have mentioned, the establishment is not much to look at from the outside. Looks pretty much like a new, residential construction with a sign on the roof, rather than a restaurant. Inside was clean, but lacked any real decorative flair or effort — pinatas and tiny sombreros tacked to the walls seemed like a last minute afterthought. No big deal. Very casual seating and settings. For a Wednesday afternoon they seemed to be doing well as far as the number of patrons go. The«wet» Burrito was ordered with a mix of chicken and chorizo with the green sauce on top. It was big and very flavorful, but, like how many burritos are made, the mix of ingredients was totally uneven. The first few bites were all rice, then some beans, then a very little chicken, then some chorizo. Had it been rolled evenly, there would have been a complementary mix of ingredients in every bite which would have improved the overall flavor ten fold. The carnitas were a little fatty, but that’s not unexpected with that cut of pork. They were moist and flavorful. One reviewer complained that her carnitas were served as «big hunks of pork» instead of being shredded. FYI — the pork in authentic carnitas is always served cubed and never shredded — this isn’t Taco Bell. The little chopped salad that came with the carnitas was fresh and delicious. The tortilla soup was served almost boiling. It was good with an interesting flavor that I haven’t had before in a tortilla soup. Overall, we’d give this place 3.5 stars for it’s authentic and fresh fare. The service was fast and relatively friendly, and the presentation of the food was well done. We liked it, but can’t really rave. For the Scranton area it seems like the best bet for some authentic and tasty Mexican.

Finally visited the new location, which is still cozy and homey… because it’s actually in a new-ish modular home. The dining room is in what would be the living room, and there are glass top tables and metal chairs instead of the plastic ones at the old location. Major upgrade. The food was just as delicious and the prices have not increased due to the move. The new menus offer detailed descriptions, and they’ve added a fried plantain dessert! The wet burrito is a must-have. Three enormous meals, three empanadas and five Mexican Cokes came to $ 35. There’s a quick tip for this place on the Unilocal app that mentions the tamales are delicious and available only on the weekends — they were sold out when we arrived, so if you want them, get there early. Speaking of getting there early, I had called ahead of time to confirm their closing time, which is listed as 10 on Fridays, but it appears that they like to shut down early. We were the last people there around 8:30.
