Although this was MY worst 5K run yet(OK, OK, I’ve only done two, but still, of the two this was the hardest for me), I won’t let it deter me from running it again next year. This is a top notch, organized, and super exciting run! It’s in conjunction with the Clear Lake Greek Festival, and although they encourage everyone to wear a toga to the run(you don’t have to run in it), I didn’t. But next year I’m busting out the scissors and making one so I can be one of the cool kids! The registration fee includes a t-shirt, chip timing and entrance to the Greek Festival afterwards, plus this year they had free Shiner Bock beer, along with the water, sports drinks and fruit. I was hoping for some baklava but no such luck… lol! I had a couple questions and the administrators answered my e-mails quickly plus they have a Facebook page as well in case you have any questions. So they are definitely on the ball for people who do have questions, or need additional information. There were two places for packet pickups, one in Houston and one here in Clear Lake, so that was nice, and of course you can pick up your packet the day of the race. I loved that they had loud upbeat music playing and an actual sound system so you could hear what was going on. They had a fitness instructor as well to help us warm up before the race. The course is residential and nice and shady plus there were a lot of residents along the way cheering us on, which I needed; there were two water stations, which was also nice as it was pretty hot that day. I really wanted to run through a couple people’s sprinklers but figured that wouldn’t be good race etiquette… lol. There were also orange cones along the course and plenty of volunteers out to make sure you were going the right way and to cheer you on as well. Whether you’ve done a 5K or not, if you want to run in one that’s organized, fun and gets you to the Greek, definitely run this one! OPA!
