I had a very good psychiatrist for 5 years but after graduating from school I looked for another one. At first I thought Dr. Seitelman was the one for me, but because my parents are traditional and don’t believe in medication, my parents came in to him and he disclosed my private medical information(which is against the law). I came back to him again because I thought he was a good psychiatrist but all he wanted to discuss was money and how much I owed him. I had a receipt from paying for my last session so I told him I would bring that for him at my next appointment. When I met with him, all he wanted to talk about was settling a fee that I had already paid. I felt duped by him because I thought Dr. Seitelman was interested in helping me get better, but he spent more time making sure he was being paid than in helping me get better. I have extreme insomnia that not even sleeping medication can help without getting my anxiety under control, but Dr. Seitelman(even though he had before) refused to prescribe any anxiety medication(which rendered my sleeping medication useless) until I made another appointment with him because he wanted to bill me again. I told him that I was a recent student graduate looking for a job and that each visit, though important, really had to last. Again, Dr. Seitelman was only concentrating on money and said that he needed to see me again next week and wouldn’t prescribe any anxiety medication(despite the fact that he knew I had debilitating panic attacks and generalized panic disorder at a high level) which led to a crippling panic attack around 2 days later where I ended up in the hospital. I’ve had a few psychiatrists and I’ve never met one who has cared so little about the patient and so much about monetary compensation. If you’re looking for a psychiatrist who wants to help you not just make sure you’re going to make the next appointment, skip him.
