It is rare that you can stay at such a fabulous place. It’s an old sea captain’s mansion. It is gorgeous inside and out. It’s a b&b and the breakfast is sumptuous, plus you get to order what you want off a menu the night before. You even pick the time you want to eat. There are several rooms just to relax in. No pool, no hottub, but I wasn’t looking for those amenities. They do have a lovely garden. We had a shared restroom but it wasn’t a problem. The bed was comfortable and there were real coffee mugs in the room with ground coffee(not a package). There is free wi-go throughout the inn. The only drawbacks were the sound on the TV in our room was fuzzy and they served the toast with Welch’s packaged jam. And the restroom has modern fixtures. On the plus side, they also have a library and some fabulous salt water taffy!

We recently stayed at the Homeport Inn while visiting family in the area; a family member made the reservation for us in advance. I was skeptical when I heard the name«inn» thinking that it may be one of those awkward inns where you feel like a guest staying in a strangers home. The Homeport was nothing like what I expected. My husband and I checked in around dinner time, and made our way through The Mermaid Restaurant. We were given a tour of the hotel, and we found that the new owners have been updating, and working hard to improve the inn. Our room was a very nice space, plenty of room and furnished with elegant pieces that were both functional and stylish. I really appreciated that the décor was a nice mix between new, and antique.((I have stayed at Inn’s that are like staying in an antique shop, but the Homeport made the bridge between new and classic flawlessly.)) After settling into our room, we met up with family to dine in the Mermaid, which is attached to the Inn. The dining room was modern, but again there were nice touches of history throughout. The menu featured items that were classic, and that anyone could find something on. Seafood, pub fare, pasta and other favorites. We all had the buffalo wings, which were very tasty. They were not over the top spicy, and easy to eat. My husband ordered Cajun wings, which were too spicy for his pallet. I enjoyed a salad, with the Loaded Baked Potato Soup. My salad was perfect, fresh and tasty. My soup was not a favorite, it seemed to be just simply loaded baked mashed potato’s rather then a soup. Everyone else enjoyed their meals(burgers, and pasta). At the end of the evening, my husband and I retired to our room. We enjoyed the large wall-mounted flat screen, cable, and the comfort of our guest room. Our bathroom was very clean, and functional. The shower was warm and the water pressure was perfect. Later in the night we went down to the bar, although they had closed to the public, they served us and we chatted with several of the inn owners. They were all very nice to chat with! Back up in our room, which was situated over the kitchen we could hear the kitchen crew cleaning up. This didn’t really disturb us since we were staying up, but I could see how an early to bed individual might be frustrated with the sounds. Our bed was very comfortable, with lots of pillows(various types/shapes/sizes), extra blankets which were very soft. We both slept well, however at dawn the light coming in from the window above the sliding room made it tough to sleep in… also the sound from the kitchen in the morning was disruptive to my sleep. Again, maybe next time I would pick a different room. We joined family again at the Mermaid for breakfast. This was a Mothers Day breakfast, and I am told their first. The menu was simple, but featured some elegant items as well. There was something for everyone. I got the standard(eggs, toast, bacon, home fries), I really enjoyed the home fries, and the eggs which were both perfect. I was not a fan of the bacon, and neither was anyone at our table. It seemed a little under-cooked, and fatty. I think if it had been crisper, it would have been better :) My husband had the sausage /biscuits /gravy. He enjoyed the breakfast, ate it all, however made a comment that the price didn’t seem to match up to the meal… he thought it was a little pricey however our breakfast was included in the price of our stay. Our guest had raspberry cream cheese stuffed French toast, which she did not fully enjoy. She was surprised that the raspberries had not been sweetened, and that they were very tart. She liked that they were fresh, and whole however needed sweetening. Also, the cream cheese was not sweetened leaving a traditionally sweet breakfast tart. One more suggestion might have been for the breakfast to have Mimosa’s or peach Bellini’s on the menu since it was a mothers day breakfast. Overall however the Mermaid was pleasant. Our servers were kind, and attentive. The inn staff was very kind also, and professional.
