Hillrose Pet Resort

Those of you who are caring pet parents may want to think twice about this facility, especially if your pet requires any medication. Specific instructions, and extra fee’s were paid for the care and measured feeding of our dog. When we returned for the dog, some food and most of the «Pill Pockets» to be used for the meds came back with him. When asked about the meds, the answer was. «We were in a hurry, so we gave him meds with our canned food.» No answer about the extra food returned with him. Besides this being unauthorized, (and likely a prevarication), our dog, as mentioned, requires specific care. Obviously I do care about my dog, and can’t see leaving him with dilettantes and hoping for the best. A «Suite» was booked for my boy. When I picked him up, the TV was off, and his water dish was near empty. The only answer I could get was… We were busy. –GET THE PICTURE–

Never again!!! Beware! FLEAS!!! Plus they will starve your dog!
First off — I travel a lot and my dog has stayed in probably 20+ different resorts all over the country, never had any issues that came even close to this…
the good — nothing!
the bad — We were asked to take dogs tags off for some ridiculous reason. What if dog gets a way, mine is an escape artist, then what? he is 20 miles from home, that makes it for a relaxing vacation for me wondering if when we come back our dog will still be there.
the ugly… I paid extra so we can have my dog eat his own food. I brought enough food for exact number of days I was going to be away. I ended up coming back a day later then expected, so my dog should have been completely out of food and eaten at least 2 meals of their food. Instead they were 2 meals left and my dog looked beyond skinny and really hungry…
So they either did not follow my request to feed him my food and gave him crap food that made him throw up or not eat it, or they did not feed him at all! Not sure which is worse.
but wait, the ugly continues… I get home and my dog is itching like crazy, biting his own fur to the point of bold patches… take him to a vet next day — he’s got worst case scenario of FLEAS they have ever seen! thats $ 200 bill, not to count my dogs suffering and my suffering!
I’ve owned my dog for 8+ years, he has stayed in many different places, never a single flea, always came back home happy, but not after visiting this place.

We have used Hillrose Pet Resort for several years. We have no complaints. My complaint is with other pet owners. Look in your walet and you will find a photo of the ones you love. A pet doesn’t have a walet but he has a nose. WEAR a t-​shirt for a few days and leave it with your pet that your boarding, your smell will leave him with a image and he will know you are returning to get him.

Ive taken both my dogs to Hillrose for years and they are both happy and healthy. The girls at the front desk do a wonderful job at check in fast and concise about the rules etc. He has a bath and toe nail cut while there and is ready to go the minute he’s picked up. Compared to other kennels in the area this is a great place.

First time going and probably our last. We called ahead to make a reservation to drop off our dog that day and pick him up the following evening (Saturday to Sunday) and were given a quote (approximately $ 25 a day, which was one of the reasons we went here as they were one of the more affordable options).
We planned on caravanning to our destination following another family in a separate car and after we sign in and drop the dog off we are handed a form calling out their normal policies in case of emergency, hours, etc.
One of the things they failed to mention on the phone when asked specifically how much boarding fees would be or when we dropped our dog off in person was that for pickups on Sunday you are charged an extra day (so dropping off on Saturday afternoon and picking up Sunday afternoon will be charged for 2 days and not one). So instead of being the least expensive option they were among the most expensive.
When we went to pick up our dog on Sunday we brought this discrepancy to the employee’s attention and they said sorry but their wasn’t anything they could do. No offer to check with management, no suggestion to call back on Monday to see if there was something they could do.
Our dog seemed to enjoy going here, my wife and I (and our checkbook) did not.

only used Hillrose once. My dog was boarded there for about a week. It was over a holiday and the place was super busy. Check in went fine. However, when I picked my dog up, she had lost 3lbs and was very weak. This is serious in a 12lb dog. I asked the staff about it as the dog is supposed to be weighed every few days. They said she had been weighed and noted that her weight decreased with every weigh in, but no action was taken. Sadly, there is no way to prove that the kennel did their job and fed my dog, but the story doesn’t add up. I will go elsewhere as I can’t trust the place.

After two trips, we’re done with this place. Found a new boarding place (Banfield’s Pet Hotel is amazing!!)
This place offers super cheap prices ($ 25 /​night for my Pomeranian), but then they add on the extras: this covers only boarding. If you want your dog to go outside into the fresh air or stretch their legs, it’s $ 15 for 15 minutes.
Does your dog eat special food? Or something other than what they serve? You can bring it but they will CHARGE YOU $ 1 extra PER feeding. You’re saving THEM money by not using their food but YOU are being charged.
Originally we had put the name brand of the food on the form, and asked the girl if he would be fed this food. She said yes. After my dog had diarrhea on his return home, I called and they said oh no they just like to know what food they normally eat but they can’t give the same brand of food. You have to bring it in. Had I KNOWN this, I would have brought it, of course, since he’s on a special diet.
When they experience problems with your pet, they DO NOT CALL YOU. I asked for 3 playtimes/​walks while my dog was there for a week. When I went to pick him up, they told me that they never took him outside because he was ‘aggressive’. This dog has never been aggressive and has stayed at various boarding facilities all over the US.
When I came back for the second time to drop him off, I mentioned hey, I guess he might be aggressive. The girl clarified that he wasn’t aggressive — the former kennel attendant was new and didn’t know how to handle dogs. So she was scared easily, and she didn’t want to take the dog out.
A couple of days after the first visit, he got very sick to the point of our taking him to the Veterinary ER. They said he probably ate something he shouldn’t have and he needed fluids. We chalked it up as something he may have eaten at home. After the second visit, he acted weird again and got sick again. Clear sign this is NOT from home. This is from the boarding facility.
NICE. This is the kind of facility and staff they have?
Never again. Extra charges + poor staff = new boarding place for us. My dog’s health is worth an extra $ 5 a night at a different place.

Only place my dog actually gets excited for me leaving her. I can tell they treat her well because she always runs in and immediately up into the lap of whoever is working at check-​in. And she is always shy around strangers. Not to mention staff out walking dogs in the play yard when we leave always yell out a good bye to Agnes as we walk across the parking lot back to the car. I can tell that everyone who works here truly loves animals.

As the owner of a «special needs» rescue dog, boarding can be a trying experience, for both of us. I had previously been boarding with my vet clinic but their staff turnover was so high that it was becoming impossible to reacquaint everyone with the rules for accommodating my dog. I called Hillrose and after five minutes on the phone felt more comfortable leaving my dog in their hands than I ever have before, then I took the tour and the staff asked lots of helpful and insightful questions and picked out the perfect spot for his stay. He just finished his first stay there and looks more relaxed than he’s ever been when I’ve picked him up from other boarders. They really went the extra mile to accomodate his particular needs, ensuring that he had a quiet, secure area with minimal interaction and even going so far as to put all the paperwork together in advance so that he didn’t have to spend too much time in the lobby. It’s a great place, especially if you have struggled to find a place that «fits» your dog, they seem to just know how to make it work.

You can’t ask your pets how it was, so you have to trust.
This is a hard concept for me, the poor doggies needed to stay over during the horrible Blue Angels days as we’re right in the flight path, and even though this is right at the airport, the noise isn’t even close to what we get.
I took the dogs in, the staff person greeted me and had me fill out the paperwork, it was all easy and painless, they said we could bring bedding and toys, so I brought them some to comfort them.
Do note: it’s an extra charge to have them go out during the day which is only 15 min/​day for an extra $ 8 I believe.
Still, two dogs, 4 nights, it was under $ 200.

I board my dog here when I travel. It’s a heck of a lot cheaper than boarding him in Seattle with my vet (my dog costs $ 24/​day at Hilrose). Because my dog doesn’t get along well with other dogs, we can’t use one of those doggy boarding places that lets all the dogs run free.
Hilrose is conveniently located near the airport (across from Boeing). We just have to make sure we account for the time to drop him off/​pick him up when we make our flight reservations. This also means you have to make sure Hilrose is also open when your flight arrives or takes off (so no weird red-​eye flights…). You can pay $ 6 more a day to get your dog playtime.
I do think that the kennel environment can be a bit tiring. Even when you go in to drop your dog off, you can hear how loud and crazy it is back there (a cacophony of doggie voices all raised at once!). My pup always comes back from Hilrose exhausted.
But, you can’t really beat the convenience or the price.

We have taken our two dogs here several times now. Usually we board them separately but ask them to put them next to each other. Also, we get every other day play times for the two of them together. In that regard they are very accommodating, allowing joint-​playtimes and putting them next to each other.
Some of the cons: I wish that they didn’t have to go to the bathroom in the same general area that they are housed. Specifically I wish they took them outside 2 – 3 times per day just to use the bathroom. What they have there is a small area where they sleep and a little door they can open to let them into another run area where they walk around a little and use the bathroom — but it is still inside. I haven’t found any reasonably priced place in Seattle that wasn’t this way though.
It is also a little pricy… granted, we do have 2 separate kennel spaces but with the shared playtimes it comes to something around 50 dollars per day. Not a ton for one day but that adds up quickly when you leave for 7 – 10 days.
When the dogs come back home they are usually wiped out tired, which is probably to be expected when the dogs are kenneled. I think they are on-​edge the whole time from other dogs barking and whatnot. However I do not think they have been mistreated at all, and they seem to do a good job of making sure all the dogs have their shots up to date.
The staff always seems friendly, which hopefully leads me to believe they treat my dogs that way too. Another plus is that they are close to the airport, which for us is nice because we almost always drop them off on the way out of town and pick them up on the way back. They have reasonable hours and don’t charge you for the next day as long as they are picked up by 10am, which is nice.
All in all we are pleased and will continue using them. They are recommended.
