We used James Klein, owner & only employee of A Clean Home, a few times this year, 2010. I originally had a much longer review, which was broken into two parts, but have decided to rewrite and keep it brief(er). Let me start by saying that James was, bar none, the WORSTSERVICE person I have EVER used!!! Reasons I will never use James again: 1) Too Much Drama. I am hiring someone to clean my house because I don’t have time to do it myself. Making me feel guilty for comp time that was not requested or expected, calling my house«dirty»(FYI, it might be dusty and a little cluttered, but never dirty.), going into the nitty-gritty details of your personal life(including telling me that you are going to have to go to a food bank for dinner), insulting my husband and telling me you feel«pressured» by him when you have not had communication with him in weeks, sending me a ranting & raving email through Unilocal. All equals unprofessional, unacceptable behavior. 2) Does not follow instructions. We requested a contract which James drew up. It stated that work is charged per hour(with a maximum number of hours) with a priority listing of what would be done in which order. Not only did he not follow our priorities from the contract, his beef with my hubby was that he felt«if he didn’t get the whole house cleaned in the agreed time, he wouldn’t be invited back». I suggest he rereads his contract, which we all agreed to. And note that insulting your client is the surest way to not get invited back. 3) Unreasonable expectations. Given above that we had agreed payment would be based on time, and not per project, it is not out of line for me to check in with James on how things were going and how much would get done. Especially since he stated multiple times that he has a better understanding of the scope of the work once he gets started. Calling these check-ins«pressuring» is unreasonable. After all, we are hiring you to do a job in our HOME and it is expected that we should get status. 4) No Common Sense. Spending hours and hours polishing glass block, no matter how beautifully, and not doing the bathroom at all(one of our top priorities) just doesn’t make a lot of sense. To be fair, what IS cleaned is done beautifully, which is why we used him multiple times despite our initial reservations and misgivings. What finally did it for me was when he thought it was ok to go off on my husband, and the things he was saying were all in his own head, and not based on reality. He genuinely seemed surprised that we had issues with him after that, which totally dumbfounds me!
