I loved this place, I’m sad it’s closed. They had the best crab rangoons and sweet and sour tofu.

I made the mistake of going here once. I got the chicken phad thai which was served lukewarm. It tasted like Spaghetti-Os. While that’s nice if you’re looking to relive the crappy food you ate as a child, I was looking for a decent Thai meal. This place didn’t have it.

In my unofficial quest to try all the Thai places on the Ave, I wandered into AppeThai for lunch. First off, I have to say that the service was great. Really great. I was seated immediately, brought a menu and water, and when I asked for Thai iced tea it came very quickly. The two employees I interacted with were both really friendly. I’m a vegetarian and asked about the combo and whether everything in it was vegetarian — i.e. no fish sauce etc. The waiter was extremely nice about it, knew what I was asking(which has been an issue at other places), and even asked to make sure the eggs in the Phad Thai would be ok. My food came quickly and was good. Not the most amazing Thai food ever, but for a fairly cheap combo on the Ave it was quite good. I got the Swimming Rama with tofu and found the peanut sauce to be nice and creamy, so maybe they’ve changed it since the earlier review. With the proximity to work, the amazing service, and the pretty yummy food, I’ll definitely be back.

So what I’ve learned is that, as long as I avoid the veggie phad thai that comes in the combo lunches, I really enjoy the food this restaurant has to offer. The service seems to have improved since I last reviewed this place, and I’m glad about that. I generally go in during slow times, so perhaps that’s why it seems like it’s improved? Or maybe he just remembers me now? In any case… I’m a fan of their AppeThai Salad b/c I think the peanut sauce is a wonderful addition to the lettuce, tomato slices, cucumber slices, and tofu. I’ve heard someone say that it’s an interesting(and good) combination of light and heavy food. The Thom Kha I’ve had there and all the entrees I’ve tried have been good. I like going there with one friend because most of the tables are meant for two people and b/c that allows us to try a couple different menu items. I just don’t recommend getting the combos…

I just came back from here! With a bellyful of my usual pad see yew with fried tofu and 3 stars. Once more, we had full water glasses(with tasty, perfectly chilled water) and a nice server. Quick service, not rushed out, and happy once more. :)

Open until 10… when you work until late this is very convenient. Takeout is quick– under 10 minutes quoted and available earlier. The menu has variety. I ordered the oyster sauce veggies– three stars. The large variety of veggies were crisp tender and tasted great. The spice was a true three stars and could considered a 4 star by some people. Fyi’s~ * My order came with a scoop of rice for free * Many new menu options that are/can be tofu based * The inside of the restaurant looks very clean and modern compared to many other places on the Ave

went here for lunch the other day. i ordered the pad see ew with beef, my friend ordered kee mao noodles. both were pretty tasty, and good portions. it seemed like fried rice was the most popular dish? service was relatively fast, but they were apologetic for the slow service so maybe its usually faster?

Compared to other thai food places on the ave, this is probably the cleanest and the least loud(music, other patrons). The pad thai was excellent and the spiciness scale actually goes up to a level that I can recognize. Definitely a decent place to eat and you get free egg rolls.

Definitely the best Thai place on the Ave. My friend and I always get the Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Phad See-Ew and split them. I recently tried the Garlic Chicken for lunch and it was great, too. Clean and simple décor, quick and friendly service, and delicious Thai food. Plus, it’s not infested with cockroaches and other bugs like a lot of the other Thai places on the Ave.

I did not set out to go to Appe Thai today but I forgot my lunch and a friend of a friend of a friend recommended I eat there because a friend of their friend was a waitress. Kind of Ferris Buelleresque. The inside is very nice, modern and clean. The wait staff was quick and attentive. You will definitely get as much water as you can drink. I ordered the spring rolls and the Beef Pad Thai. It was about average or a little better but it did not blow my socks off. There was not a lot of beef in the pad thai and the flavoring was a bit bland. The spring rolls were solid as a rock. After wrestling with it for a while I was finally able to stab it(crumbs going everywhere) and it was down for the count. As for Thai places on the Ave it is a little better than average, but then again that is not saying much.

pretty clean, decent food. not great. they didnt screw anything up but nothing has been very memorable i initially tried it on a busy night when thaiger room and thai65 were too crowded and loud. but appethai was EMPTY. we were the only people there and it was horribly awkward. im not exactly a polite conversationalist over dinner when catching up with old friends and everything virtually echoed. but maybe its picked up since then?

Clean environment(on the Ave even!), fast service, tasty menu choices. Great Yellow Curry Fried Rice and Pud Kee Mao. Don’t bother with the soups, they never seem to turn out right – their Tum Kha Gai is very sweet and bland otherwise. We go here often because it’s near the UW, and rather inexpensive for the quality and service received.

Five stars compared to all the other restaurants on the ave. Food: Very good. The green curry was nice and buttery(though not green…), the pad thai was a little dry but still good, the garlic fried rice was a little sticky but still delicious. I was impressed by the beef in my rice — it was amazingly tender — it didn’t take five minutes to chew through a piece! The chicken was dry, but so are all the other places. This place as the best combo hands down, since all you really want is curry + pad thai, none of that crispy chicken Thaiger room gives you. Drinks: I have a CSA membership so I get free drinks here, and I got a great Thai Iced Coffee. Not enough condensed milk, a bit too much sugar, but very good compared to the shiiit you find elsewhere on the same block. Service: Mediocre, but they never yell at you for tip. Ambiance: Amazingly clean, no greasy smell, nicely lit & decorated. Made me feel I was eating somewhere upscale! Great escape from the din and dim of the Udistrict. All in all a great place to visit for lunch. The prices are very reasonable.

The food is good and the prices are pretty much expected. It’s a clean place and the service is pretty diligent. Why 3 stars? Well, it’s one of the better Thai places on the Ave, however, I’ve had better Thai food/service at places elsewhere. So if you’re sticking to places on the Ave, this is a good place to hit up.

This is probably my favourite Thai place on the Ave, because 1) it’s a two-minute walk from my house, and 2) I usually crave Thai on an impulse and when I do want it, I don’t want to wait 45 minutes for Thai Tom. That’s why AppeThai is usually my establishment of choice. The food is pretty good, the staff is extremely nice each and every time, and service is fast. I like the restaurant’s interior a lot, as well: colourful, modern, straight out of an IKEA catalogue, which is a nice change from the sometimes cheesy nature of Thai restaurant décor. Also, as an avid apple lover, I spent almost a year thinking this place was called AppleThai, which added to its appeal, I suppose. :)

not bad, but not great either. i happenned to be hit by hunger pains as i was literally outside their door, so i went in. it was just after lunch and i was the only other person in there except one other man. that was a bit odd. but the food wasn’t horrible. it hit the spot for a craving for thai food. but.i’ve had better.

This place is a favorite for our office at work — it’s fast, very clean(well, at least for the U. District), never too crowded, and the $ 7.25 combos are a great deal. I’ve had the sweet n sour, ginger, and basil and was loved them all. We’ve also enjoyed the rice dishes. I’d probably give it 5 stars for the combination of quality, speed, and value, but the service can be rather inconsistent. Seems like there’s totally different people each day, but that could just be time of the year and school.

As my first stab at Thai food, I thought Appethai was only okay. I didn’t know what to expect really so I ordered pad thai since that seems to be one of the popular Thai dishes. I also sampled the chicken satays and the crab wontons as appetizers. The crab wontons were bite-sized, served HOT and very creamy with a nice crisp outer shell. The chicken satays had a nice peanut sauce accompaniment. I was less thrilled with my pad thai — a noodle dish that they served with RICE? I don’t think I really liked it — it was sweet and sticky. My more experienced Thai food friends assured me that it’s not really that sweet or sticky, so I should try it again elsewhere. Courtesy of my dinner companions, I did try their prik king, which had perfectly cooked green beens(crisp but tender) and too many peppers and was overall bright and colorful, and the pineapple curry, which was creamy and delightfully spicy, and the summer rolls which were incredibly light and delicious. I think I might try that next time, as they were tasty. Overall, the place seemed pretty good — just not my meal. I feel like I can’t give it 4 stars, as I didn’t like my dish at all, but from what I sampled elsewhere, it seems like it’s a pretty good place. I wish I could give it a half star more though. The atmosphere was clean and simple and the waiter was attentive and discreet. There were a lot of Asians in the seats, which seems like a good sign for an Asian cuisine restaurant.
