Beauty and the Bamboo

First visit to this one of a kind bamboo garden. We were impressed. The garden is so charming and well kept, with healthy varieties of different bamboos, some very rare. The owner was very enthusiastic and gave us some great advice for purchasing and planting. We spent more time than planned as we really enjoyed the garden and all the interesting information that Stan was sharing with us. He has a small office store inside the house with some real finds. It was hard to leave without purchasing a few extra items to go with our new bamboo. If you like bamboo you should definitely check this place out!

Yes you have to have an appointment. Yes it’s at this guy’s house. Owner is friendly and knowledgeable, has the air of an old pro who’s stuck on the treadmill. We priced bamboo around town and on Amazon and prices seemed in line to me, but I’m the type that’s happy to pay for advice and service. The «nursery» (the gardens around the house) is a lovely inspiration to any gardening enthusiast and full of surprises. As a transplant, to me this place is eccentric & a bit kooky in a typical old Seattle way. It’s local to my place and I like it. NOTE: the house seems to be a bit of a lost boys’ home, and I figure if the owner is giving some down on their luck guys work, room, and board, that’s a good thing. The fellow that loaded my new plants and rolls of plastic into my trunk was polite and helpful but also in dire need of a shower, super scruffy and nearly toothless. Definitely not coffee in those mugs, but it’s all good.

I had a fantastic experience at Beauty and the Bamboo. Stan was incredibly thoughtful, generous, patient and kind, and his level of customer service didn’t change even though I was a new customer and was only making a small purchase. After having gone to and called around to many different nurseries, Stan was the most helpful. I’d be glad to give him my business anyday. The man is clearly a top-​notch expert in what he’s doing. And when it’s time for me to make a big-​ticket purchase, he’s certainly getting my business!
Plus, it also helps that his shop is beautiful!

The price is way too high than any in Seattle. When I ask for bamboo barrier with 60 mil. the owner tried to sell me the 40 mil for the price of 60 mil and convinced me it better than 60 mil. I told him the 40 mil has lower price at other stores he vey mad man and screamed at me. I can’t believe the owner would do such thing to a customer and I had to leave the store. I think he is mentally unstable.

Stan is pretty amazing, did an awesome showing w/​out any pressure of buying. Great selection of bamboo. Definitely will be back!

I wanted to get some potted bamboo to put out on my balcony for privacy screening and found this place online.
This guy is great! He operates out of a home in the Greenwood area and the yard is filled with gorgeous bamboo of all kinds. You can’t just stop by, you have to call first to make an appointment but they are pretty much always around and available.
I spent some time looking at everything and asking tons of questions, which he was happy to answer in as much detail as I needed. I bought 3 potted plants and he gave me all the detailed info I needed to care for them. When I called him months later for more advice on repotting and supporting them in high winds, he gladly chatted with me for several minutes advising me what to do and where to buy the stuff. He even told me where to get it cheaper than Fred Meyer or his own shop.
This guy is super helpful and very knowledgeable about bamboo. I highly recommend this place for anything bamboo related.

As far as I can tell, Stan is «the man» 4 bamboo; at least here in this area. We visited his bamboo oasis today and were impressed. He has an amazing place; we’ve been to a number of other nurseries in the Seattle area and none come close to Stan’s place, as far as bamboo is concerned. He is very knowledgeable and has a huge selection at very reasonable prices. We didn’t see 1 scraggly looking specimen on his property. All plants were very healthy and he couldn’t have been more patient /​accommodating. We shall shop here again.

When you have a big problem, you need to consult the professionals! A clump of bamboo that was thought to be well contained in my yard had actually gone under the 30″ root barrier and was headed for the neighbor’s lawn. (The type of bamboo, incidentally, is known as Chusquea gigantea — you definitely want to steer clear of this one unless you have a very large space. Oddly enough, Stan says it is often slow to establish. but after 8 or so years mine was out of control). Some work had already been done to retrieve the runaway lateral rhizomes, but nothing seemed to be making a dent in the massive root mass that was left — even a chain saw failed, and my neighbor assured me a sawzall was not going to work either. Stan has specialized instruments called «slammers» which are specifically designed for bamboo excavation — and his crew knows what they are doing.
This was a messy, muddy job, but Stan and crew did great work in close quarters and got this monster bamboo out of my yard and out of my life. I feel cleansed.

Stan the bamboo man runs a top notch business.
He is always quick to respond to my voice and/​or emails. He is prompt and highly knowledgeable. Pricing was straight forward, no surprises. He/​they arrived on time, were done in about 90 minutes and left my yard looking like they never were there, except the beautiful bamboo they left behind.

Stan is my new hero. I have a VERY shady back yard and wanted something to block the view into it from a neighbour’s deck. Stan asked for a photo and assured me he’d have something that would work. And he did– a whole bunch of wonderful, affordable options! Let me also state that due to horrible traffic I was over an hour late for my appt with him, and Stan made me feel welcome– never rushed, never pressured. He explained the finer points of bamboo husbandry to this novice, clearly and thoroughly, including growth patterns, what to look out for, watering tips, ideas for best utilising the bamboo for my purposes… you name it. I left with some great bamboo and pots at an incredible price, plenty of information and a new place I look forward to recommending to friends! And when I got home, I had a lovely follow-​up email! I had the unfortunate experience this week of using Stan’s services to get an overgrown bamboo plant removed from my yard. The price I was charged for what ended up being a very simple job was obscene. I had heard that bamboo was an invasive plant that must be contained or prevented from growing near homes. Mr. Andersson came out and convinced me my plant was tremendously overgrown and threatening both my house and my neighbor’s. With a deep root structure, this would be a huge job and would cost a lot. Well, his crew subsequently came out and removed the bamboo in about 2 hours. The roots were only about six inches deep. For this I was charged $ 1180. I questioned the price as this job ended up being much simpler than what was described to me in his bid. Oh, no, he couldn’t possibly lower his price.
I felt ‘Stan’ took advantage of my lack of knowledge and ripped me off. He was even going to discount my final price by the $ 40 he charged me for an estimate visit but he never gave me that either. This guy is a sales guy who will rip you off. I would advise folks to steer clear from this business and go somewhere else. I would not recommend him to anyone.

Not a regular nursery but a house with the yard filled with beautiful, healthy bamboo of many kinds. Stan Andreason (AKA Stan the bamboo man) is very knowledgeable and helpful, selling bamboo barrier material and other bamboo specific suplies as well. You should call to make an appt. but he’s ever so much more convenient than the other suburban nurseries that specialize in bamboo.

A koala bear friend of mine told me about this great place to find many species of cool bamboo — right in the middle of Greenwood! Beauty and the Bamboo has a fantastic selection of some exotic and many common varieties of bamboo — in GREAT shape — and at much lower prices than any nursery around.
The guy that runs the place is a nice bamboo lover. If you’re lucky enough to catch him (call for an appt.) he will show you around his grounds and suggest species for your particular needs. Need to screen that neighbor who’s always scratching his belly in his underwear? Want something serene and calming for that zen garden you’re dreaming about puting in? Go here, talk to the man…
They offer over 20 varieties of bamboo (all gorgeous), liners for planting in ground and many tips for growing and care.
Id have given a 5 star, but I haven’t actually gone through a transaction yet. I will soon, and update my review accordingly. But as far as I can tell, this is one gold (bamboo) mine for any lover of the leafy reeds!

Bamboo… is there anything it can’t do?
You wouldn’t think it would be hard to find this place — I mean, how DO you hide a 30 foot bamboo forest? — but it is sort of hard to find. It’s a fenced house off of 85^th in Greenwood.
The person that helped us was incredibly knowledgeable about all the different types of bamboo and walked us all around the yard trying to match our needs with his stock.
They also have some other nice/​neat plants beside bamboo. Maybe this is covered by the ‘Beauty’ part of their name.
