I suspect that some downtown delis survive simply because a certain number of people who work in the building don’t have time to cross the street. I suspect this is one of them. Yet, when I walked in at lunch time the place was virtually empty. The deli«space» downtown is very crowded. To compete you must offer me fresh wonderful bread(Specialty’s), lightning fast service(Jimmy John’s), a fun experience(Dog in the Park), or fantastic ingredients(all of the above). Beba’s had none. The sandwich flavor was okay and the service was okay. The atmosphere outdated and drab. And, because they’re not doing a high volume, I suspect Beba is cutting corners on stocking stuff. So – I feel bad because I don’t know for sure but I’m just going to say it – I think the bread was a little stale. Or it was just mediocre bread. And, instead of fresh«avocado,» my sandwich had a hair-thin swipe of avocado flavored sauce. For $ 6, I won’t be going back.
