This place is awesome. It seems as if its a family run place and the whole family is really friendly. They always welcome me, smile, and tell me goodbye when I leave. Not just one of them either, even the old man cooking takes time to smile and say thanks to the customers. And the burgers are pretty damn good and not that expensive. They are not like jack in the box burgers, which are cheap and pretty low budget. Their burgers cost a little more than that but is put together very nice. I know some people said its not a pub, and yea its not a pub, but who cares? They serve beer there so they think its a bar and they probabaly dont even know what a proper pub is so they found a fancy way to say«bar» and went with«pub» without even realizing that they arent really a pub. They are from another country they dont know any better, but they are great people and have great burgers.

This store was originally Tiger Café, one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area when I first arrived at UW, it later closed to become a Filipino restaurant, and so imagine my surprise when I see this place as I pass by on the bus. However, since I no longer live in the dorms, it’s a bit out of the way, but today, I had the opportunity to try it. It’s run by what looks like a small Korean family, and they were really friendly. However, the whole make-your-own-burger checklist thingy seemed a bit of a knock-off of A Burger Place on the Ave, with less stuff. That being said, I decided to judge the burger on its own merits. Overall, I thought everything was pretty good, but it seemed rather much like a burger you could normally assemble at home and stuff, though the House BBQ Sauce was rather tasty. The burger patty itself was rather small for the large kaiser roll and all the stuff, but overall it was pretty well made. Everything seemed pre –made, so overall, I can’t say it’s super great or worth it. The combo isn’t bad, the fries are decent, so it’s more for convenience than anything else. Overall, it’s okay, not exactly the greatest, can’t say that’s it’s the best in U-District or most affordable. Just another run-of-the-mill burger place that serves alcohol, I suppose that’s what makes them different, though I don’t drink, so it’s not like it makes a difference to me.

Not that I’m complaining, but Brooklyn Burger and Pub is not, in fact, a pub. Sure, they serve beer, and the sort of food one might eat with beer(not just burgers), but the net effect of the place is decidedly unpublike. It’s always mostly empty, pretty well-lit, and there’s pop music playing on the radio. When I walked in, the staff greeted me from across the room and waved a burger ordering card at me. I went with a single patty, cheddar, jalapeño, some vegetables, and mustard. With fries and a fountain drink, that came to a bit under $ 9 after tax. After a short wait, they brought the food to where I was sitting, with a bottle of ketchup. Now, take a moment to look at Jeanny M.‘s photo of a burger on the top right corner of this page. Looks like one of those fake food photographs they put in ads, doesn’t it? Well, that’s exactly what my burger looked like. A nice, large roll instead of the usual sesame bun, without a trace of sogginess. Golden, crispy fries that didn’t really taste of all that much. The meat was OK; it was on par with the pricier ‘specialty’ burgers you’d get at a chain fast food place. In fact, if McDonalds decided to open a premium burger subchain(like they did with coffee), the food would probably look and taste a lot like this. The meal was filling and unobjectionable. If this was the only non-chain burger option in the area, I’d be glad to have it around. As it happens, there are three or four good burger places within a few blocks, so I’m unlikely to come here often.

Deborah S and I had lunch here the other week. I was a bit hesitant after reading some reviews, but oh well. why not. Plus the location is middle-ish from where we both work. It’s located next to the pupusa place(that I wasn’t too crazy over, see review), but it was bright and airy. I came in and sat down to wait but the gal came over with an ordering menu. I guess it looks like that other burger place, but I didn’t really care about it, having only gone to that other place once before. Deborah S showed up and we placed our order. I decided to go for a swiss cheese mushroom burger with fries. It was pretty good. The ordering menu didn’t have an option for cooked onions(the raw ones were free). I’d imagine they could have done it if I asked and for a 50c or something. The food came out quickly. I liked that the bun wasn’t very. bun-y. But it was a roll of some kind. The condiments(ketchup, mustard, and bbq) were put on just right — I like being able to put condiments on myself. but they did good! As others have noted, there’s something about the meat. I suppose it was grey-ish in color but it tasted fine and served to me hot. And, well, I ate there over a week ago and I didn’t get sick! The people were super nice and thanked us and said good bye many times before we made our exit. I may or may not be back. I already have a dedicated burger joint, which is Orange King. :)

The Philly«burger»(they mean cheesesteak) was shockingly large for the price/atmosphere/region. It was pretty tasty, having good steak and enough onions.

In response to the first comment, A Burger Place and Brooklyn have a similar ordering process, yes, but so do a lot of places, so I don’t see that as a bad thing. The prices are average but they are not nearly as crowded as ABP — actually we’re usually one of maybe three tables — so we don’t feel guilty pulling out our books and cramming for a couple hours. The people who run this place are really friendly, but admittedly, the food is just average and it’s pretty expensive for what you get — I pick this over A Burger Place due to the fact Brooklyn has milkshakes and ABP doesn’t. And milkshakes are delicioussss :)

This place is a complete rip off of A Burger Place on the ave. And A Burger Place is MUCH better. The burger meat tasted like there was some type of filler in it or something, and it wasn’t grilled, but almost like it was microwaved or something, very rubbery consistency and odd color. I seriously could only stomach half the burger and threw the rest out… it was just SOOO gross. The fries would have been good with about half as much salt as they had on them. Needless to say, I won’t be returning!
