i work next to this spot so occasionally i’ll stop in for some after work drink and snack. the nachos are killer. so are the tacos. the nachos portion is big and fills you up proper. the drinks are decent. asked for a white russian but they didn’t have any cream. that was a bummer. when the weather is nice sit outdoors as it’s lovely. it does get kind of packed when it’s nice out and the music will sometimes be too loud and too obnoxious to really enjoy yourself. very hipster like vibes, but that’s capitol hill in general.

The ginger sauce was AWESOME. Stiff drinks… Only reason they didn’t get 5 stars(no ranch)

This bar has a great patio. Definitely a great place to hang out on a nice warm day right on the slopes of capital hill. They have a full bar and decent selection of beers on tap. They’re food is pretty good. It’s a limited menu so don’t come expecting a feast. Mainly just the right kind of food for keeping you from getting too plastered while drinking in the sun. Be sure to nominate your designated gopher as you are required to order at the bar.

Both much of a menu if you are looking you eat, butty of you are just ranting to grab a beer then you will love this place! The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. On a nice sunny day you can sit on their balcony and people watch

People, you are so critical. The key about Captain Black is the ridiculously awesome deck. No better in all of Capitol Hill.

Patio with a view Fun divey bar in Cap Hill Some damn decent eats and happy hour Fair prices Nice staff Plenty of beers on tap and daily drink specials This is the place to be on a sunny day. Otherwise the inside is a bit small but I love hanging on the patio here. Always some interesting music blasting and it’s an overall good vibe. Their homemade fries are good and the rest of the menu isn’t your typical frozen pub food… it’s actually homemade and good! Recommend stopping by for a drink or three!

One of my girlfriend’s friends recommended Captain Black’s as a great happy hour place, so we decided to check it out last Friday. One of the bartenders gave us a cocktail menu and we ordered a couple items from the menu. Unfortunately, I temporarily forgot an important rule for dive bars which is «Don’t ever order cocktails at a dive bar.» These drinks were horrible. My girlfriend had a whiskey lemonade which contained really harsh-tasting(even for well) whiskey competing against extremely sour lemon syrup without nearly enough sugar to balance the tastes out. I can’t remember the name of the cocktail I ordered but it was rum with grapefruit juice, simple syrup, and soda water. As much as I stirred the drink, with every sip I could still taste every ingredient separately because they didn’t complement each other at all. Even worse, both drinks cost about $ 8 each. Luckily, they had a few decent beers on tap including Shiner Bock, which is one of my favorites. To eat, we got an order of fried mac and cheese bites and fried okra. Both of these appetizers were really tasty, especially the mac and cheese. They definitely went a little overboard(pun not intended) with the portion size on the fried okra as it was way too much even for two people, but it would be perfect for four people. They have an outdoor patio area which has a pretty good view of downtown, although you should definitely be sure to bring your sunglasses as it faces westward. Overall, we didn’t dislike Captain Black’s, but we didn’t see anything special about it that would make us want to come back either.

A great place to stop and have a couple drinks. Nothing really special about the place but they had good food and good prices. I would recommend friends to come.

I’m not sure why this comes up under LATE night food but they stop serving at midnight. Which is sorely disappointing.

Captain Black’s has solid drinks, nothing out of the ordinary, though I LOVED when their special included plastic sunglasses in case you forgot yours on the summer’s first sunny day. The food is also pretty quality for fried Southern food. My go-to is the fried okra, so good it almost makes you think its healthy, or the po-boy if I’m having a real meal. The real reason to go here is the deck. If there is a better – no, ANY – other deck on the Hill that is not on top of overpriced condos, I don’t know where it is, but please tell me. The view is gradually getting shuttered in by condos in Belltown and SLU, but still one of the best places to enjoy a sunny, or not so sunny, happy hour. The deck will likely be packed because it isn’t a secret, but there is usually plenty of railing to lean on.

Once upon a time, it was a warm summer night in Seattle. We came to this place for their mythical happy hour. All was well until we stepped foot into captain blacks. Suddenly, it got cold. Winter was coming. The invisible balls of flame the blonde id checker was throwing at us were almost too much to handle. Fortunately, I earned an «A» in my «local hostile hipsters psychology 101» class from growing up in San Francisco. Thank god. We initially came up and the lady told us their card reader was down. Ok. That does happen. I just found it hard to believe that all 30 – 40 of the other people their conveniently had cash on them. So we ventured into the surrounding neighborhood to find an atm. Someone yelled out«faggot» at us from their car while driving by. Cmon, that insult is so pre-June 26th. Use something hurtful like«basic»…no one wants to be basic. I digress… We came back after getting cash. The ID checker lady once again tried using her witchy ways to make sure we wouldn’t go in by trying to say I had a fake ID. She used one of those fancy bouncer tricks by saying my birth date wrong to see if I’d catch it. I did catch it. She gave me an evil smirk when I passed her test. I smirked back. It was the courteous thing to do. We sat down. We were good. The blonde lady didn’t come in and attack us. I was really worried about that. But We were all fine. So We asked about their happy hour with their food that was listed on their website. Low and behold, they do not offer any. Hungry, tired, confused… we all agreed our gold schillings would best be spent elsewhere. So we left! We went around the corner to the hillside bar and josh was our bartender and he was rad so we left him a nice tip. He was a cool wizard. Everyone at captain blacks were box trolls. The end!

Not horrible, but your typical dive bar in a questionable area! I came here for happy hour with my roommate, and we got a pitcher of beer and wings, mac&cheese bites, and french fries. The patio is great too, but has a little funky mismatched décor going on!

This place has an outdoor patio! A great place to chill, listen to good music, chat it up with friends, and eat good bar food. There’s no wait service so you will have to order your food and drinks at the bar. After you get your order #, take your drinks and find a spot where you want to chill. When your food is ready, someone will find you and hand you your food. I heard their Sundays, Day Shift party is the place to be.

I came here on Tuesday to meet up with my friend because I had missed his birthday and I wanted to get him a few drinks. They had trivia night going on and it was really fun, I was no help to my team what so ever, haha. The staff here are amazing! Super friendly even when it was getting kind of busy and really loud with trivia going on. The tito’s lemonade they have on draft is so good! Definitely felt a buzz after my 2nd or 3rd cup. My friend said he usually come here for the chicken and waffle. I’ll have to come back for those soon and it’s easy to do so since he only lives a block away.

No waiter service. There’s a nice patio area both in the front(facing Belmont st) and back. During summer afternoons, the place gets pretty hot inside. I prefer sitting outside – but I highly recommend sitting in the patio that faces Belmont Street, since it gets more shade :) I’ve only had the mac and cheese here, and I’m not impressed. The cheese was very liquidy. Captain Blacks should’ve named theirs«Mac and Milk» :D Oh well, it’s bar food, and I should’ve known better. You live and learn, right? :) The place has this hipster dive atmosphere though, and I truly enjoy that, because we don’t have many places like these left in Seattle’s hipster central! It’s the last of a dying breed, and for that alone, I’ll be back :)

Been here a few times. Great prices and the food is pretty good. Two great patios for outdoor seating. Just can’t get past the bad and sometimes even rude service. They act like they are doing us a favor serving us. I guess they don’t have to be friendly if they are always packed. Too bad, because I would have given more stars if they were even a bit pleasant.

They have beer, good music that even my music snob friend couldn’t recognize and a great hidden back porch where you can watch the sunset and pretend you could afford such a spacious patio in Capitol Hill. Order everything at the bar. The menu is not so cholesterol reducing friendly, but hey with a porch like this who needs to lower their LDL?

The atmosphere is really cool and so are the folks running it. Great place to hang out when the weather is nice. Nice layout to relax in, take it easy. Not a huge fan of the food though. The chicken is kind of bland. I love a good chicken waffle and this just isn’t the place for it. The gravy doesn’t work at all, not enough cheese or onions on it to have an opinion about either.
