Fancy décor and staff but poor food. The rice in the rolls were so hard that they made me go to toilet. Seriously. Go somewhere else who knows how to make the basic rice and charge a reasonable price.

Stop by Chiso and give Dave a shout out at the sushi bar(Dave is the sushi chef in the first station). The omakase at Chiso is delicious and a great value, starting at $ 30. In particular, the marinated salmon belly is luxurious and smoky, the monkfish liver pâté is smooth and has the subtle taste qualities of liver without being overpowering, and the torched nigiri’s are always a great way to add a unique taste. Definitely recommend the omakase and let Dave and his team give you a beautiful plate of delicious sushi.

The food was underwhelming. A little too bland for my taste so I’m glad we came in during the Happy Hour. The service on the other hand was atrocious. I’m not sure if our waitress was having a bad night or if she just seriously lacked in customer service skills. With the reviews and how bustling this place was, I was definitely surprised when one of our orders took well over 40 minutes. When inquiring about it 25 mins in(after receiving our other food), she was rude and apathetic. Another 20 mins go by and she skips our table a handful of times! Doesn’t even check in or let us know that our last dish is STILL cooking?(For whatever reason that may be for a teeny tiny yakitori.) You could at least update us, ask if we want anything else or heck even fill our waters again or something to act remotely close our waitress. I finished my food well before the person I was dining with(sorry, honey!) and well after that, they received their food practically thrown down on the table. Even after both of us smiled and thank her after each(few) times she came to our table, she said nothing except gave us a friendly(ha ha) glare and walked away. Even with that kind of service, we are not the type of people to be rude when dissatisfied. We are the type to write a Unilocal review though! The service a waitperson gives definitely affects the dining experience for a customer in my opinion so unfortunately, I’ll have to skip Chiso the next time I’m hungry for Japanese food.

I come here for lunch quite a bit with co workers and it’s always hopping! Love the miso soup and chirashi bowls. The sushi always tastes so fresh and the service is consistently good. It’s one of the better sushi spots in Fremont in my opinion so well worth a try.

I always enjoy dining at Chiso! They have happy hour from 4 – 6 and their prices are so reasonable, it gives me a chance to order a variety of food. I’ve ordered off their regular menu also, and so far everything was so delicious! Try their salmon teriyaki and pork katsu. Tonight we ordered from the Happy Hour menu, we had variety of rolls, shrimp & veggie tempura and agadashi tofu and everything was perfect! For dessert, we had the Banana Bliss — yum! Which is coconut ice cream topped with fried bananas and chocolate drizzle! It doesn’t get better than that! The server, Jackie was so nice, so accommodating and so efficient! We asked for more ginger for our rolls and our check early so we can just leave right after dessert since I saw that she was so busy, and also asked for a box to go for our left-overs, and she took care of everything quickly, she doesn’t forget. The manager there is also very nice, don’t know his name but this Asian guy who let me come in early even before opening to stay warm with my baby — so nice! That’s what I call great service! Great food, great service, at a reasonable price! Definitely one of my favorite restaurants! If you have a choice, ask to be served by Jackie!!!

All around average. Happy hour menu has several sushi options and some other additional items to choose from. Sushi is fresh, but rolled with more sticky rice than I prefer. My favorite part was the tempura ice cream. Ambiance is inviting, intimate and casual. Service is ok.

Dine around Seattle. Truth be told, I came here because I wanted to try their tempura ice cream, but they were out of it when we got there. So sad! :(( Everything we had for appetizers and main was really good tho. The poke was like hawaii, salmon collar was so moist and not too fatty, pork katsu was amazing!!, and the fish omakase was fun to try! All very solid and fresh dishes. Dessert wise– the flan alternative was not that great and the tempura+ banana ice cream was just ok. Good thing we were pretty full from the great meal prior, but i suspect tempura ice cream would have made this even better. Lol

Very nice atmosphere, location and service, prices seem pretty average. The folks here seem to go out of their way to accommodate their customers. While their delicious udon soup is not on the dinner menu, they made it for me anyway in the evening. Really like the fact that they serve the tempura on the side of the soup, as some places serve it IN the soup and it arrives soggy. Not so at Chiso – they get it! Servers are excellent and pleasant. This is definitely a good place to take a date. I’ve only had their udon soup(several times) and one sushi roll here – the fish was fresh but the roll itself was pretty ‘meh’-not terribly tasty. That said, I would certainly try other items on their sushi menu.

Chiso has a great atmosphere and always has good service. There are a lot of small touches here and there, from the coat rack to the nice chopsticks. I can’t stand terrible chopsticks. They have delicious hot green tea that goes great with the sushi. Bonus points for coke products. My girlfriend and I most recently went for happy hour which they have from 4 – 6(every day I think?). It was pretty cheap, about $ 20 for each of us and very delicious. I got the nigiri plate and all of it was great. The california roll was not amazing, but still quite good.

Finding a sushi restaurant not too far from the Woodland Park Zoo was not a problem. I’m glad we came here. The food was pretty good. The chefs noticed that we were taking a photo of the octopus and pulled out literally a whole octopus for us to photograph! Definitely an experience. I was happy because they served geoduck!

We came here with a pretty large group(8 people) on a Saturday night and they normally don’t take reservations but because we knew the sushi chef personally they were able to accommodate our request that night. When we arrived at 7:30pm, the place was packed with more people waiting to be seated. We still had to wait another 15 minutes or so for one more table to finish up before they could finish setting up our tables. We decided to order family style with a variety of different sushi rolls off their special rolls menu along with sashimi and a few chawanmushis to share. Everything that came out was delicious and very high quality. We ended our meal with yellowtail rolls, compliments of the sushi chef which was also very delicious! I would have almost given them 5 stars except the service was very slow. Although the servers were very friendly, the food took a long time to come out.

This started out as what may have been a four star evening maybe even five but then … The atmosphere isn’t what I’m used to in the many California sushi restaurants that we frequent. It’s nice though. Clean and the chefs look clean which is always a plus. The menu is adequate with their own specialty rolls. I sincerely appreciate the dedication to local fish as well which is hard to come by where I live. I order the miso soup which was delicious and I highly recommend it. In place of the traditional tofu they use cabbage which I found to be perfectly cooked and textured and added wonderful flavor. We also ordered the Rosanna roll, also delicious. It had five pieces which made it difficult to split between two people. The crab was terrific but there seemed to be a shortage of scallops which was the main reason we ordered the roll. Next we ordered the Seattle roll which came out looking fabulous although the pieces were quite large making them difficult to eat. The rolls was super tasty and the salmon tasted really fresh but then half of the pieces needed having bones in them. This for me ruins sushi. Totally ruined our night at this place. So we paid and left to go somewhere else. In addition to that the sushi chefs don’t talk to you(we were at the bar) and the service is slow.

If you’re looking for a great, high quality sushi place in Fremont, this is where you should head! I’ve eaten here numerous times and have always had a great experience. I’ve had the sashimi, nigiri, rolls, udon, and bento boxes before — all are fantastic. I usually get the sashimi bento and share with a friend who gets the sushi bento so we can share sashimi and rolls. The bento box comes with a ton of food — so depending on how hungry you are sharing sashimi cuts or rolls is a good route as well. I had the udon yesterday — the noodles were delicious, the inari was very tasty, and the broth was full of flavor. A little on the expensive side but high quality sushi so worth it!

Great little sushi place. Gets pretty crowded for lunch during the weekday. Pricing is decent, around $ 7 – 20 for appetizers, bento, rolls, and sashimi. Hamachi, and sake sashimi was fresh. They are pretty generous with their cuts, but the shape of the cut is a bit thick and boxy Copper river salmon– amazing and fresh Butterfish nigiri– disappointing, it was too fishy Black cod– cooked perfectly, amd seasoned well. Service was good. Parking around the area is hard to find on busy hours.

Love the happy hour here. Great food for great prices. I’m sad that they no longer do late night happy hour as it was one of my favorite late night eating joints. Most of the food I’ve had here is very good. The nigiri sushi is just ok. The rolls seem to be better than the nigiri. I’ve had almost everything on the happy hour menus and I’d say my favorites are the gyoza, yakitori, pork belly sauté, spicy tuna roll, and mini chirashi. The service can be slow at times but everybody I’ve had has been very nice. Overall a great Japanese restaurant dishing up some authentic nom noms

Happy Hour Power! Came in for happy girl with girlfriends. The atmosphere is modern. Spacious benches and chairs. We had the option of sitting at the sushi bar or a table. The happy hour menu prices are very reasonable. I especially liked that they had a variety of food to choose from on the happy hour. We order nigori cold sake. It was very good! I’ve had it at other places that were watered down, but this place was legit! We order two orders of the agadashi tofu! It was wonderful! The tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We order a few rolls. The rolls are not particularly big in portion and they are very simple, just typical sushi fillings with white rice on the outside, nothing like the rolls that you get on the regular menu, however, it was good happy hour food to go along with your sake. Our server was very attentive as well! The overall experience was great.

This is by far one of the best sushi restaurants that I’ve been to in a while. My favorite spot will always remain in DC… but since I’m not there, this will have to do. I got here late on a Saturday night, around 8:30 pm, and oddly enough there weren’t a ton of people here. For Memorial Day weekend, we expected a much bigger crowd but it was pleasantly quiet. Not quiet in the creepy type of way that it’s terrible and no one is there… but quiet because it seemed to be a big date kind of place for two. As I’ve expressed numerous times, I don’t like real sushi — only vegetarian — which I get is weird, so it’s doubly difficult to impress me. But I really liked the options and what I selected. I had an avocado/cucumber role — it was fresh and rolled with just the right amount of sticky rice. I also had an appetizer of Japanese eggplant and tofu which was incredible. I’ve never seen anything like that on a menu before at a Japanese restaurant but I’d come back just for that. Everyone else seemed really happy with their orders. The presentation was beautiful and it was reasonably priced. I will be back. :)

I’m really looking forward to coming back here for a second try. Their Spider roll was one of the best I’ve had, and you do get some bang for your buck on the happy hour menu. The other rolls we ordered as just as good and fresh. The location is perfect for us living in the heart of Fremont, and there’s plenty of street parking in the area.

What stood out to me was the Omakase sashimi, that the chef did not give us cheap cuts. He gave us uni, geoduck, toro belly, and other expensive cuts. No salmon, mackerel, or other fillers like most sushi houses. Thank you head chef/owner Taichi Kitamura and staff at Chiso for a fabulous night! We had the 5 course omakase with 4 sake pairings. Enjoyed every morsel of it, literally. Easy to make reservations over the phone, delicious food, and hardworking staff and even the owner/head chef was present! Four different types of sake were served cold. They were distilled and flavored differently and had an accompanied description card in serving. Each had a distinct taste to them(12.5−15% alc vol) fruity or sweet as but tasted exactly as described on the cards. Our first course was miso soup & edamame, second was a salad with seared albacore, third course was grilled filleted salmon tail, fourth course was an array of sushi with choice of either brown or white rice, and fifth course was chocolate cake with coconut icecream.
