Clark Services

I have used Eric Clark with ‘Clark Services’ to mow, edge, and do some clean up work in my yard for almost a year now. He is always on time, and efficient. He also gives me a very good discount. I am very happy with my service from Clark Services!

If I could avoid putting any stars I would. I needed someone to clean gutters and replace a couple of rusty downspouts. I’ve used Craigslist in the past and had great results, but couldn’t find the guys I used before so I tried Clark Services. Eric Clark came out within an hour (red flag!). We did a walk through of the property and he said he would give me a great deal. He quoted me $ 250 for the gutters and downspout replacement including materials. He said that would include one gravel drain and he would repair a fence post by digging a hole around it, setting in cement. He asked about the blackberries along the back fence, and I told him I was tight on money, but I would get to it next month. Particularly since I wanted the root systems pulled and to dig up the sod one foot from the fence along the entire length. He quoted me an additional $ 150 and promised to clean everything up. I made a lot of mistakes, so I’m posting this so that others don’t use his service and get screwed like I did! But hopefully, you won’t EVER pay up front!
Saturday — walk through and gave him $ 100 for materials and «gas».
Sunday — Arrived at 9 and cleaned the gutters, and clipped blackberry vines until 1130. He arrived with materials, so I knew he put in about an hour the day before. He asked for another $ 200.
Monday — dug the gravel drain and set the fence in cement. Promised to come back Wednesday.
Wednesday — no show. I called him and asked when he would be back to finish. He said «oh yeah, I golfed a little bit today». Great. He met me at the house that afternoon and asked for another $ 100.
Thursday — Again, I had to call him and find out what he schedule would be. He said he would come out later in the afternoon. My son was home and reported that he worked about 1.5 hours. He dug up a lot of the sod and left his tools, so I knew he would be back, but there was no word on when.
Friday — I called him mid morning and he said he was bringing a friend to help him finish. He said it would be about 3 hours to finish the sod and asked «when can I meet you to get the final balance of $ 40» (for more materials?) I told him when he finished the job I would pay him the remainder. He worked for about an hour and left with all of his tools. Meanwhile, the half bag of cement sat out all week in the rain, the downspouts are laying in the yard, and he left all of the yardwaste laying in the yard.
Sunday he called me and I asked him to finish, that I was concerned because I had paid him $ 400 for about 7 hours of labor and cheap materials. He said I flaked on him! I asked him how when I had met my end of the contract by paying him all but $ 40? He said «hey, you just cut me off, but that’s fine, I think we’re done here».
I am so thankful that is the end with this guy! Dark blue van with stencilled Clark Services and phone number. I will NEVER pay up front for work again. I should have known better. During those few times when he came to the house, he talked about other customers calling him to «finish» the jobs he had started with them.
This guy is all over Craigslist: Eric Clark, Clark Services, claims to give discounts to seniors and single parents (me).
