Daystar Retirement Village

After looking at many facilities we came across Daystar. From the moment we walked in we found it to be welcoming and clean. We found their rates reasonable. We signed the contract and moved my parents in to a one bedroom apartment. They people living their made them feel welcome and accepted. Mom and Dad enjoyed the food. After a month it became clear that my mom needed skilled nursing so we had to move them to another building, new apartment. She continued to decline passing away five months later. After her passing we had to move my dad back to the lower care building where he still resides.
I’ve got to say not everything is perfect. The following are a few of my observations.
Staff-​The nursing staff I cannot say enough good things about them. They treated her so well and lovingly. The waiters and waitresses seem good. Housekeeping we have to keep on to do a good job cleaning. Dad thinks it’s fine but the bathroom is never fully cleaned and I always find cobwebs. The administrative/​office staff are who I have problems with. Their communication is horrible.
Activities-​My parents have never liked or participated in the activities. They are the typical senior lectures, road trips and activities. They do not have an area for them to garden or are allowed to help the landscaping crew, not even weeding. (We actually never got a reply after numberous requests.) They do show current and older movies they show everyday. Their exercise is pretty limited. They do Tai Chi and seated exercise. It would be nice if they offered something theraputic for those with arthritis, sore joints, bad hips, bad knees, etc.

Michelle in their office is horrible. She is rude and condescending. The talks about items that are none of her business. She actually called me greedy! I would avoid this place at all costs! I wouldn’t let my family members live there if it were the last place on earth!
