Discovery Montessori School

Not worth of one star, why?
We took the admission in this school since we live in Magnolia and were looking for Montessori school for my son close to my house. We had terrible experience with the director. Director is very rude and makes contradictory statements to save her skin. We attended just 5 days school for just couple hours with one of us volunteering and she was ready with her decision that your son is not ready for school. We felt that she made her mind at the first day and just telling next 4 days that why you are forcing your son to Montessori when he is not interested. Our son was crying and no teacher or assistant (There was just 1 teacher and 1 assistant in the 20 kids class) attended or spoke to my son, instead director mentioned that she said my son that her ears are hurting with his cry, felt really bad after hearing that. We were assuming that every school at least provides 2 – 3 weeks’ time for kids to settle down, but with this school our experience was way too bad. Our son attended the daycare and Coop before and thrived there hence we were not convinced with the directors statement of my son is not ready for school. She is less human and has poor manners. Bad of all she took the $ 250 of 5 days attending the school with huge trauma. Less teacher to kids ratio, with less attention to the kids who joined new. I would definitely won’t recommend this Montessori school.

My daughter has been at Discovery Montessori School since she was 2 years old, and she has loved it for the past 2.5 years! The rigorous program with amazing teachers has prepared our daughter to enter into any kindergarten program.
We have been very satisfied with the curriculum offered by this school. Also, Seattle Country Day School recommends enrolling a preschooler in this school if living in Magnolia.
Typically, 40−50% of the kids in the preschool are reading before entering into kindergarten.

The woman I spoke with on the phone was super rude. I was looking for a 3 day a week program because I work, she said my child need to have more of a set routine as the they start preschool. Just rubbed me the wrong way.

We’ve been really happy with this school and I wish we’d found it sooner! It has so many wonderful qualities — warm, inviting, organized, small yet they still go on interesting field trips and have fun events. It seems to be a very well rounded experience (kids are exposed to Spanish and music) with emphasis on both work time and outdoor play. I really can’t say anything negative about this place — my son looks forward to going to school every day and I feel great knowing he is in such a high quality environment while I’m at work.

My daughter was at Discovery Montessori for 4 years and had a great time. She learned to love gardening and reading. And she learned effective conflict resolution. The space was always clean and well-​organized. The ratio of structure to unstructured time was good. Parents were engaged but not smothering, and many volunteered for reading, music, yoga and walks. This school is the real thing. It’s not day care. (My kid absolutely crushed the Seattle Public Schools CogAT preparedness test.) If I had more kids, I wouldn’t hesitate to send them to Discovery.

Discovery is a wonderful neighborhood Montessori with accredited teachers. The environment is nurturing and respects the children as their own little beings as they develop. We have found the school to be accommodating, clean (I am a neat freak) and their play space is enclosed and safe – which is not the case for many preschools. The academic goals are based on true montessori goals with a softer edge.
