Dogcity West Seattle

Dog City is our go-​to place for boarding and daycare. My pup pup is always so excited to go to daycare he drags me to the entrance. And when we pick him up he’s exhausted! He even has a twin pup who is his best friend– I only know this because the owner sends us the cutest photos.
As other posters have commented– I have heard a male with a strong voice in the play area. Am I worried? Nope– Since Ollie has been going to daycare he seems to be more well behaved and he actually listens. I would be worried if he was fearful of daycare. But that never happens. He’s practically taking my arm off once he realizes where we are.
also, the prices are great– especially with the package options. We take Ollie to daycare 2 – 3 times a week. Any more than that and he gets too used to it and resents us for keeping him home.

Just wanted to say that a year later, we still love this place as much as always. Fantastic staff. Thanks for all you do!

I really wanted to like this place as it’s in such a convenient location for us. I’ve given them several chances, but I can’t shake a feeling of suspicion about it.
The first time we took our dog here, they didn’t offer to give us a tour, so we didn’t really know what it was like inside, but based on the great Unilocal reviews, my instinct was to trust it was fine. The second time, I asked to see inside, but they quickly said that they can’t just show people, that they’d be open to do it some Saturdays when they were prepared… Hmm.
Every other dog daycare place we’ve gone to has a lot of transparency — including open windows to see your dog from the outside, live webcams, and at the minimum a tour on your first time without being asked, so you can feel some sense of comfort about where you leave your dog.
The reason I asked and became suspicious was because more often than not, when I come here in the afternoon, the dogs are quiet and I hear a man’s voice asking a dog to be quiet. at first I brushed it off as playful, but at my last visit, it had a tinge of annoyance and frustration. In addition to no playful noises or barking, I heard the sounds of cages opening and closing, a constant cry of a dog (sustained crying the whole time I was waiting ~2 minutes), and the man’s voice again saying «be quiet you whiner» — non-​playful. It wasn’t coming from the grooming room either, as that door was open and there were no dogs there.
I have no idea what goes on there, why it’s so quiet, why strange man is always saying mean things to dogs (and not in a playful way), why I just hear the sounds of cage doors opening and closing and why they are so weird about showing the space, and why no webcams or transparency at all. WHY WHY WHY
I should also mention that I got my dog groomed there once, and he came out smelling great, but I still had a few mats a had to brush out myself when I got home. Also, my dog has a lot, i mean ALOT of fur. Before booking, I told them his breed and asked them the price, they quoted me $ 55. When I picked him up, they charged me $ 85 — no explanation, when pressed, they said it was because of all the fur. I had expected that price, but they were not upfront with about it, nor asked me if that price was okay, given the fact that they had quoted me $ 55 originally. Even just a courtesy phone call, saying that it was a lot more fur than expected and if the price bump would be okay with me, would have been nice and considerate.
Oh well, the convenience is not worth all the suspicion and lack of consideration.
Btw, my dog did not come back tired or looking like he played much today (he usually has other dogs drool all over his head fur when he has played a lot).

The first time I brought my Pomeranian, she got the best haircut and at such a great price! Plus it’s only a 5 minute walk from my place which is convenient! Actually bringing her back today! My only recommendation is to call in advance to reserve an appt because they book up quickly!

We’ve been taking our dog, Willie, for a year since he was able (puppy-​wise). We’ve experienced nothing but the most incredibly loving experience. He can’t wait (read: pulls hard at his leash) to get in the door. We love that he loves it.

Like Christopher H. who reviewed this place, the first time I was at DogCity I too heard a man yelling angrily at the dogs in the back as I walked up. It really bothered me so I actually brought it up with the owner right then and there, and we had a pretty good discussion. Everyone has different views on how to deal with dogs, and I really don’t think there is just one way, because all dogs have different needs and personalities. However, loud and angry yelling has never been something that seems to be good for the wellbeing of any dog. It sometimes works to scare a dog into immediate ceasing of behavior which of course can be absolutely necessary in the moment. I used to train dogs at the Humane Society and angry yelling would NEVER be an approved tactic. In fact, I would likely have been reprimanded if I’d taken this approach. All this to say, I believe his method is less than ideal, and is the reason for 4 stars vs. 5, but my experience with all other employees here has been nothing short of excellent.
The front desk folks are attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. The groomers (which sometimes work at the front desk!) are SO good with my timid, nervous dog. They are quick and always have awesome tips on what to do and not do. Even when, like an ass, I come in 5 minutes prior to closing for a nail trim, they graciously welcome me in and treat my dog with love.

I bring my two boys here for grooming and day care. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The faculty is clean and modern with hammocks for the dogs to lay on. I especially appreciate the small dog area as one of my boys is very shy and prefers to play with others his size.
I would recommend (and have) Dog City to my friends and neighbors.

I’m shocked at the good reviews.
The worst experience I have ever had with a groomer. On the way in, I overheard what sounded like a guy arguing with a dog in the back. Nevertheless, I brushed it off and continued in. I should have listened to my gut.
I called and scheduled an appointment two weeks out. On arrival, three pages of paperwork to fill out which could have been sent in advance. Oh well, no problem. This was to be the first cut for my Maltese after moving up from the Bay Area. He does get small mats from time to time, and this time, having just moved, was no exception. Long-​haired Maltese mat very easily even with daily brushings. However, the groomer indicated this would require a full shave and bellowed on about her «30yrs+» experience without letting me get a word in. I was taken aback by the complete pretentiousness. You need to be able to listen to customers and address their concerns if you want my business, and do it in a constructive way.
The final nail in the coffin was the office assistant, who apparently didn’t appreciate me contradicting the information from the groomer. She plainly implied that I was a terrible father to my puppy: «take care of your dog». Really? Judge much? Unbelievable.
Run. Don’t walk.

Dogcity is AMAZING!!! Words can’t express how much my pooch and I love this pace.
Dogcity has been nothing but accommodating to not only my schedule but most of all the needs of my dog.
As a first time dog owner I really had no clue what I was doing. I was nervous about everything, his grooming, his activity level, his socializing skills, boarding him you name it I had hesitations about it.
As soon as we started with Dogcity all those fears went out the window. The staff has worked so hard to make my life easier while providing the best possible care and environment for my dog. He is excited as soon as we pull up to get in on the fun. I’ve been able to pop in last minute for a bath or boarding without any issues of taking him. We are always greeted so warmly and the staff truly loves my dog. It’s so comforting to know my little pup is being loved on during the day and I’m always given an update on how he did at pick up.
Jan the owner is a rockstar! The facility is so clean and inviting. She truly works so hard to train her staff and gets to know you and your dog on a personal level. If you have questions or concerns about your dog Jan is right there to give advice or a lead on what might work. Dogcity is a new business but runs like a well oiled machine.
Above all else Dogcity truly cares about the safety and needs of your pet and having a neighborhood place like this is a huge perk to West Seattle. A major Thank you for all their hard work!

Jan and her team are fantastic! My dog loves coming here for grooming and play time. I totally trust them to take great care of my pup! Belle is soooo happy when she gets to hang there for a day! Thank you Jan!!!

I recently moved here from the east coast and found this business as I do most, Unilocal.I scheduled his temperament test, had him bathed, everything was fine. Even purchased the 5 full day package.
About 2 weeks ago I was told my dog «attacked» 4 different dogs in the same day, this conversation did not happen with the owner Jan but with a girl I’d never seen before. I was basically told if I didn’t get him better under control he wouldn’t be able to continue going to daycare. This is completely understandable if this is truely what happened. I’ve had my dog for a year now, he’s 1.5, rescue. I’ve had him in 2 different daycares for almost the entire time I’ve had him, including going to the dog park sometimes 2 times a day. I have never once seen my dog or been told by daycare staff that my dog had attacked another dog, much less 4. I’ve seen him get into a little tiff over a ball or toy at the park, but definitely not aggressive and did end with either dog hurt. One of the daycares even had webcam you could watch anytime, again never saw him fighting. According to the staff he is a teenager and acting out, I just find it odd he was only a few weeks younger and not doing that at his previous places. I was told only 5 dogs have ever been asked to leave by Jan a few days later when I came back. She assured me not to worry, we would work on this together.
Fast forward to this past thurs when I picked him up, where I was told by a different girl that he had been in two fights first thing that morning when I dropped him off and they had isolated him for the day. I did not receive a call to have the choice to go get him, which made me pretty upset. I work nightshift as a nurse and I’m gone for 14 hours, I take him there to play and exert energy, not be put in a kennel. Had I known I would have picked him up immediately. She then proceeded to tell me he wasn’t allowed back. That’s fine, I’ll spend thousands else where on boarding and daycare but it infuriates me that Jan did not bother to tell me herself, or call, or to let me observe his behavior for myself. I called that same afternoon and asked to see video, I was first told they didn’t have it, then that it probably wasn’t at the right angle, then that they needed to know when so they weren’t going through hours of footage (even though I was told it was that morning.) I would also think they save footage of dog attacks for the patents of the attacked dog to explain what happened. Either way I never received a call to view the footage.
If my dog is behaving that way I definitely want to fix his behavior. I’m just not sure what type of dog training these «wranglers» have and if they are able to decifer play from aggressiveness. Or if they even stay with the dogs while playing. He loves to play, the last daycare with a certified dog behaviorist said he was great with play and could play with any size dog. I just find it so odd a dog with absolutely no aggressive track record and being very well socialized all of a sudden «attacked» 6 dogs in 3 weeks at their facility.
Needless to say, I will not use them again. I’m very disappointed with how this was handled.

I can’t say enough good things about Jan and her team at DogCity. Since my dog Lyla’s orientation visit to her ongoing daily daycare sessions, the love and attention she has received has been nothing less than fantastic. Jan and her team treat my dog as if she were one of their own. My dog not only looks forward to her daycare visits but she leaves thoroughly played out. I’ve also used the grooming and overnight boarding services which I also recommend. Entrusting your dog with a stranger can be nerve wracking for both you and your animal; however, I’ve never regretted choosing DogCity for my fur baby. Not only has DogCity earned my business as a loyal customer, but even more importantly, they’ve earned my respect and glowing endorsement. Keep up the good work!

It seems like it would be an okay place. It’s right behind my work, so I was looking forward to being able to drop off/​pick up my dog right before and after work.
Unfortunately they ignored my inquiry email, while another competing dog daycare answered me almost immediately. So the competitor got my business. Oh well.

We recently relocated from San Francisco so our grooming lingo was out of sync. After the first visit our dog Zoe was beautiful but not quite what we wanted. My husband called back and no problem — brought her back and all was fixed by Friday afternoon. They were very understanding and even gave us some recommendations for a local vet.

Great option here in WS! parking can be a little crazy because it’s next to the YMCA, But take advantage of the 30 mi load zone RIGHT in front.
20.00 for ½ day (5 hours)
If you go over that at all, you are bumped up to «whole day» of 30.00. I guess it would be nice to have some accommodations in certain circumstances.
I would love to see them open on Sundays for daycare, I would use them a lot more.
There are hardly any in WS open on Sundays.

Just wanted to give another good word on the wonderful grooming experience I had again with these people and say what a wonderful job this place does.
After bringing my standard poodle girl here I figured I would give it a go with my male mini due to the excellent work that was put in on my other dog with my first time visit that I previously reviewed. I now have been completely won over by this place and have decided to make this my go to place for any future dog grooming needs.
I had no idea what kind of cut I wanted for him with the cold weather and all and told the lady at the desk not too much off and to basically clean him up with a bath and a nail trim is all and take not much hair off. Wow was I so surprised when I returned to get him and never knew he could look so cute since I took him in as a rescue a short time back. He now has style =)
Never knew my dog could look such «SHOW QUALITY» until now.
Total show dog looking work is what I received from this place in both visits.
I can’t say enough GOOD things of this place and I now recommend anyone looking for an excellent grooming experience to give this place a try.

I just got back from getting my dog Natasha groomed at Dog City.
First, let me tell you about Natasha. She’s a long-​haired Chihuahua-​Papillon mix and she’s a 5 year old rescue. She doesn’t get along with other dogs and I’m fairly certain she was abused in her previous life. Long story short, she is extremely difficult and it’s been a long road to recovery for us these past few months.
Now, to the good stuff. Jan and her staff were so amazingly accommodating, especially with me being the crazy worry wart dog mom that I am. They had no problem with me checking out the facility beforehand and answering all my crazy dog mom questions.
My little girl came back looking like a fluffy dream come true. Even with Natasha’s bad attitude, the groomer managed to perform all the services I asked (and with a bow on top, no less) and all for less than $ 100 (including tip… TIP YOUR GROOMERS, PEOPLE).
They were so reassuring and confident and Natasha had a great first grooming experience. 5/​5, we definitely found our new home.

We were looking for a new groomer for several reasons and Dogcity came highly recommended by our dog sitter. We’ve used Dogcity twice and couldn’t be more pleased!

–When not in the grooming salon, our dogs are free to play in the playroom with other dogs

We just relocated to West Seattle from Denver, CO. I’ve researched many groomers on here in my area and was left with apprehension until I found DogCity West Seattle. I read many reviews on Unilocal and was very encouraged and relieved to find their services so highly recommended across the board.
I’m a mother of three boys, a pompoo, teacup yorkie and sweet chihuahua. I’ve diligently groomed my dogs every six weeks for the ten plus years I have had them. Due to moving, car in the shop and some other headaches I fell a month behind. My poor pompoo became horribly matted, it seemed to happen almost over night. His legs were one giant mat, mats on his tummy and a real nasty one under his chin. I thought he’d need to go to a vet to get groomed. I called DogCity and first spoke with Jan. She was extremely nice and suggested I bring my baby in so Dawn, the fabulous groomer, could assess him. I had to change times and next spoke to Jessica who was also extremely friendly and when I explained what was going on with my pompoo, she assured me that they deal with «special needs» dogs often and made me feel at ease.
We just got home from my pompoo’s grooming. Dawn is fabulous and the entire staff are friendly, personable and fun! Dawn reassured me that my dogs matting was related to the difference in climates (in Denver he never matted, but when I walk him here in the rain it causes that awful matting on his legs). I was so worried about him I had given him a sedative from his vet because he’s not the best client. I won’t do that again. Dawn was so great with him, holding him like a baby and loving him so he felt comfortable. She informed me that the sedative can actually make them panic more and she’s like a sedative to dogs with her gentle loving mannerism. It won’t be necessary in the future.
We dropped him off, expecting to pick him up 2 – 3 hours later. He was done in under an hour!!! We rushed to pick him up and he looks great! He’s shaved and we have to start growing him out fresh which is fine with him and me! He was given a super rockin’ Mohawk upon our permission. I know he feels so much better and Dawn didn’t have any issues getting through the mats. He looks like a different dog and probably feels like one too!
I was so pleased with Dawn, the rest of the staff and the overall experience that I will be bringing the yorkie and chihuahua next week. They aren’t suffering like my pompoo, but are in need of some pampering. I found my new spot and wouldn’t trust going anywhere else.
I will use them for boarding as well as soon as dad and I can afford a vacation!
I highly recommend DogCity! Especially if you have high maintenance dogs. I felt like a negligent mother bringing my baby in today but the entire staff eased that worry right away. They really do deserve the highest ratings. I’ve been through many groomers in 11 years. I won’t be going anywhere else!

We just moved to the neighborhood and feel very lucky to have found Dogcity West Seattle. While we were making our new home dog-​friendly, we relied heavily on Jan and her team to take care of our English Setter for a few days. Setters get shaggy quickly, so we ordered a breed cut, too. It was the best grooming our dog has ever received, with a lot of attention to small details that most other places ignored to save time.
Their rates are very affordable, and buying stays in bulk – either full or ½ days (5 hours) – makes a lot of sense. For overnight boarding, staff remains there for the night to make sure the dogs are OK.
There are a few parking spaces next to the building and more across the street. Not an issue for quick in-​and-​outs.
Will definitely keep coming back for grooming and daycare, and we’re looking forward to trying overnight boarding soon, too, when out of town.
