Dusty did my hair and makeup for my August 2015 wedding. As anyone in Seattle knows, it can be very hot and sometimes very humid here in the summer! I had an afternoon wedding, so I needed my hair and makeup to look good not only through pictures, but also in person in the harsh sunlight. Dusty did a FANTASTIC job doing just that! My makeup and hair lasted all day and I could not be happier with how I look in my photos. The biggest difference I noticed between Dusty and other professional makeup artists was the quality of products he uses and how long the makeup lasts. I recently had my makeup done by another professional makeup artist for my friend’s wedding, and after about 2 hours of photos my eye shadow was creased and my lashes were falling off. That was not an issue at my wedding at all. Dusty even took his customization of my look to the next level by helping me pick out hair extensions and toning them so they perfectly matched my hair! Dusty is truly an artist. He can take a vague description of what you like and make it a reality with seemingly little effort. I liked his work so much at my wedding that I’ve called him more than once to do my hair and makeup for other events, including a pretty elaborate Morticia Addams costume this past Halloween! Don’t waste your time with other hair and makeup artists, Dusty is by far the BEST!

In Dust I trust! Dusty did my hair and makeup for my wedding along with my mom and bridal party and I could not have possibly been happier! He listened to what I wanted and made my vision a reality. His fun loving and relaxed personality made my wedding day stress free and so much fun.
He colors and cuts my hair as well and I find myself not wanting to leave when he’s done because I’ve enjoyed his company so much. He is so incredibly talented; a true artist. I HIGHLY recommend putting your beauty in his hands.

Thanks to DustyJames and his team!!! He and his team did an AMAZING job on my friend’s bridal party! The bride, Vivian, looked stunning yet natural on 03÷21÷15. Just the way she wanted to. Us girls loved our make up and hair. It was weightless, with enough coverage, lasting for the rest of the day with no issues with the Hawaiian weather. I personally didn’t want to take it off because of how nice it looked even at the end of the night. I was contemplating on trying to sleep with it to see if it will last the next day. Due to hygiene reasons, I had to wash it off. Lucky, the curls stayed with me until the end of my Hawaii trip. Which ended on 03÷24÷15!!! Yes, that’s 3 ½ days of nice curls people!
Him & his team are really a fun & energetic group which made Vivian’s day even more special! We laughed so much while getting dolled up. Thank you for giving your time and your positive energies! You guys really started an Amazing day for us!

Dusty James Bolyard was my makeup artist and hair stylist for my December 2014 wedding at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua, and I could not have been more pleased with his services and the results. I planned a destination wedding from DC, and after reviewing other over-​priced, assuredly talented, vendors, my wedding coordinator recommended Dusty. I contacted Dusty by e-​mail and he was extremely responsive, which is impressive considering the 5-​hour time difference between us. His responsiveness and enthusiasm continued for months including through the time when I arrived in Hawaii. Dusty worked with my budget, which was extremely important to me, and which sets him apart from other Maui makeup artists.
I sent Dusty photos for inspiration and he was able to re-​create the looks during my trial and on my wedding day. I loved his airbrush makeup and individual eyelash application, among other things. Dusty was also facile with hair extensions and did wonders for this extremely picky hair client. I felt so glamorous before I walked down the aisle, I only hope all other brides can feel that way.
That feeling of magic is referenced in all other reviews for Dusty, which mention how kind and special he and his partner, Blaine, are. I was lucky to have a trial and share my big day with these talented, wonderful artists. You could not find a more talented make up artist in Maui if you tried. I randomly met him while helping him at the counter on a shift two years ago. We chit chatted and I mentioned I was getting married, and he mentioned he did bridal hair and makeup! One thing led to another and I booked my special day with him!
My dress was retro 50’s style and I wanted the hair and makeup to match. I gave him full creative control and was absolutely pleased with the outcome! I’m Asian/​mix so my hair is very thick and I always have a hard time putting it up all cutesy because it’s so heavy and it’ll just fall apart, but seriously, from mid day all the way through the ceremony, to the reception… and even till late night at tikis with my friends, the hair held up like a champ! And the makeup was beautiful!
I knew he was a keeper.
So I went back to him after the wedding for my cuts and colors and have never been disappointed. My hair used to be almost down to my butt, and I had it in a bun EVERY day. It was heavy and annoying. I finally decided that I wanted to donate it in memory of my mother who passed away from ovarian cancer, and to go from waist length hair to pixie short… and I ended up coloring it red! Seriously, I would never consider going to anyone else other than Dusty! And I did not regret it once after chopping it all off! Today I just got back from another appointment to maintain my pixie and just love it so much. And surprisingly, the color from about 4 months ago is still looking decent! Usually, color washes out pretty quick with my hair!
«Trust in the Dust» do not hesitate! It’s hard to find someone on Maui with as much experience and who is SO up to date with the latest styles! He knows how to cut, color, style and beautify according to YOU and is such a sweetheart!

It’s difficult to plan for a destination wedding because you can only make decisions based off vendor portfolios. I tried three different, local hair and makeup artists in San Diego, because I was planning on taking a team with me, but was disappointed with the outcomes of the trial runs.
I happened upon Dusty’s portfolio and immediately fell in love with his work. When I made contact, he demonstrated immediate professionalism.
On the big day, there was a storm on Maui so the location of the wedding was changed to a covered location outside. Dusty kept me cool as a cucumber despite all the last minute drama. It was rainy and extremely humid which is the perfect recipe for droopy hair and a melty face, but Dusty was ready and gave me plenty of touch up supplies.
I wore a princess ball gown complete with an extra large petticoat. (Dusty even helped me get dressed! He tied my corset tighter than the bridal boutique employees). Although I loved my dress, it was an oven. I don’t think I’ve ever sweat so much in my whole life. After the ceremony, I went for a quick bathroom break to survey the damage, but much to my surprise, MY MAKEUP WAS STILL PERFECT! All I had to refresh was my lipgloss, but my hair and makeup were still flawless :).
Dusty is not only talented, but he is one of the nicest people I’ve met. If I have any events in the future, I will fly him out to San Diego!

Unilocalpers, you’ve done it again! Thanks to Unilocal I found myself a WONDERFUL hair and make-​up stylist for my destination wedding in Maui. I had contacted a number of differnt people but Dusty was the first to reply. Not only that but he was very respectful when I told him that I wanted to see what other options I had. He followed up to see how my search was going but didn’t pressure me into making a decision. The amazing customer service andwarmth in his texts and emails is what sold me. And I’m sure glad I went with him!
Dusty showed up slighty early with his wagon in tow, which gave us plenty of time to get orgainzed and settled in to help me look my best. He asked many questions to know exactly what I wanted. He put me at ease and the conversation was awesome. I felt like my long-​time buddy was doing my hair and make up… that’s how easy he is to talk to.
My hubby and I decided to elope in Maui which meant I didn’t have my sisters, mom or bestie to help me into my dress… no problem! Dusty said that he was there for as long as I needed him. Dusty went above and beyond to make my day as special as it should be. If you want the same, book him before someone else does!
Dusty…I know you’ll be reading this, so I thank you SO much for everything. I felt like we should have gone out for a chill dinner later in the week and just hang out like old buds. You are talented, amazing and a wonderful person with a HUGE heart! I can’t thank you enough! Dusty is fantastic. He is extremely talented and professional and I was thrilled to have him do my wedding makeup and hair. He came right on time with his assistance and was so friendly from the get go.
He comes with a WAGON of makeup and tools. Much of his stuff was top of line stuff (I think he used Chanel foundation). And he’s so detailed and deliberate with everything.
The only slight disappointment was that my curls did not last long. I know it’s humid in Hawaii, but the curls fell out pretty quickly and I wonder if more or better hairspray would have helped.
His makeup style seems more on the natural side which is lovely. So while my skin looked absolutely flawless and he did a great job at attaching every single fake eyelash, I would have liked a little more color to pop in photos. I probably should have said something but I don’t know much about makeup.
When he saw my Dad, he immediately walked over and sprayed down some flyaways. Pretty funny to see my 70 year old Dad get hairsprayed for probably the first time in his life. He also curled my 5 years old flower girl’s hair at her last minute request and offered it for free (though we gave him money for it anyway).
All in all, Dusty is fantastic. Truly skilled and very friendly.

Let me begin by saying that I am extremely picky when it comes to hair and makeup artistry. I’ve been to several different artists in LA and OC for special events and they all pail in comparison to Dusty.
I hired Dusty for hair/​makeup/​lash application for the bridal party of my sister’s wedding. He was prompt, professional, and perfect. We all have thick middle eastern hair which did not move an inch throughout my sister’s outdoor wedding ceremony in the rain. My eye makeup was also unmoved despite the rain and sweat from humidity and stress. He also actually uses quality products. All artists say that but Dusty really means it and can you thorough insight on his product choices. We bonded over favorite products while he meticulously and quickly did my hair and makeup.
Not only is his work phenomenal, but he really is the most wonderful person. His partner Blaine and him fit in beautifully with our loud, obnoxious family. They were patient with grandmas, children, and divas. They added a spirit to the whole morning that was truly priceless.
I’d recommend him wholeheartedly but secretly hope he moves to LA soon. We were so very lucky to have had the honor to work with him and wish him all the best. xx
