As a dorm cafeteria it was massively better than what came before. Many of its features moved in the last year or so to newer dorms nearby. 1101 has now been entirely replaced by a new cafeteria in the new Lander Hall, about ½ block east. 1101 is closed, the building will soon be demolished.

Hey people who wrote negative reviews: This is a UW Dining Hall, not a gourmet 4 star establishment(In case you didn’t know that). When you have that thought in the back of your mind, the food is not that bad. I really enjoy the fact that they try to create dishes from around the world. Though they may not always be tasty, its the thought that counts, especially in a very heavily populated international student dorm. They have limited options, but that forces you to try new foods. Most of the time one dish is better than the other so, see what everyone else is ordering and use your eyes! I think Taco Tuesdays are the best and the roasted pork wrapped in bacon is pretty delish too. I have heard their burgers are good too. The fries are also pretty delicious, and they fry them when you order so they are piping hot when you eat them. Breakfast is also really good! I recommend the french toast or pancakes. The servers and chefs are always the same people and they can be friendly unless they have worked a long shift. I always make sure to say hello and thank you. Overall, I feel welcomed in 1101 and I think its a more simple and laid back version of the 8 over at McMahon. I will be sad to say goodbye to 1101 in January. Hope the food is even better in the new Lander!

Very bad food, and few choices. As always, the Pagliacci pizza is bad, very bad. waterish taste. The café itself has a rotating menu, however 10% of the time the food is satisfactory. The fried chicken is the worst ever! I don’t understand how they can make them so bad and distasteful. The service is bad also. The odor can be intolerant most of the times. It makes people sick; it is from the pizza station(cheese). Last choice, as always look at the menu online to check out if you really wanna go there.

The food is not that cheap. The only perk was convenience. Lots of open tables and seatings. Wait time can be long during between noon to 1pm and between 5pm to 6:30pm. Sometimes you have to wait over 20 minutes in line. Food quality was not that impressive. On the weekends, they only offer brunch. I don’t recall too many options available. Things could have changed over the years. They also have a convenient store, which is again, simply convenient. Prices can be pretty high compared with trader joes and safeway.

Don’t be lazy, go walk to the 8(McMahon). The only thing I ever liked at 1101 café was the sandwich shop. They offered this delicious mouthwatering chipotle mayo that I have not been able to find anywhere. :( The food here is pretty random, sometimes they have ‘wok’(asian fusion food) or mexican food. The breakfast is the same daily. If you lived in the dorms, this place was convenient, but else wise stay clear away.

Pros: Clean Cons: If I didn’t live in the dorms, i would never come here… But this place is being torn down soon so might as well get your garbage while you still can!

The poor man’s counterpart to the 8, UW’s other gentrified cafeteria located under McMahon Hall. Options are changed out periodically, but are never good. The only reliably safe options are its branch of Pagliacci and the salad bar. Notable only for it’s convenience store, 2 Convenient, which contains a full-service Tully’s open everyday till 1am. Seating is good, including a plush lounge area oriented toward a large flat-screen, and it’s only crowded during prime lunch and dinner hours. Generally avoid unless you’re in the mood for pizza, salad, or Tully’s.

I think you can’t please many college kids that are forced to eat here. I also think that, for school food, it is WAY better than most.

They don’t offer the daily vegan dish anymore. Over time, they seemed to have sloooowly phased it out. I’m not vegan but lactose intolerant and eating vegan is the safest diet for me when eating out. No self respecting vegan or restricted diet student would want to fork out $ 4.50+ for a measly tomato and sprout sandwich or $ 7.00 for a crappy lettuce and tomato salad. UW, good education, crappy food.

This is one of the dining establishments run by the University of Washington’s Housing and Food Services, located between the Terry and Lander residence halls. While it’s fairly good compared to stereotypical«cafeteria food» with a variety of options, I see no reason for one to eat here if they’re not tied to an HFS dining plan, considering the proximity to numerous real restaurants on the Ave.
