I adopted a dog about 2 weeks ago I was trying to find a vet I came to Unilocal to find one… four paws Veterinary Center is wonderful the assistants are so nice and Dr Miller explained everything in detail answered all my questions and gave me a itemized receipt breaking down costs for my next visit. I’m definitely going to have a long relationship with them if you’re looking for a vet go there you won’t be disappointed

I had an amazing vet out of state and when I moved here this was more important than finding a doctor for myself. It is a very hard thing to find a good vet and to be honest I already had issues with two other vets in the area. I got lucky finding this place thanks to fellow Unilocalers!
You know those people who always have questions, well that’s me. If I have a question I would like an answer and that is what I get at Four Paws! They are always patient with me… All of the staff are polite and professional… the people at the front desk, the vet assistants and the vets will not only explain things but will do so until I am satisfied. Thank you!
My dog comes every two weeks to get his nails trimmed and I like that they weigh him each time. You know how dogs don’t like to sit still, but they still do it. I appreciate that, especially since I want to keep an eye on his weight. Pugs have a tendency to bulk up, so I want to keep my little guy fit.
The one thing that’s a bit difficult on me is that all of the chairs are park benches made of wood and metal and I have a back injury that makes it very hard to sit in benches like this. There is a nice waterfall on the waiting area which is nice and relaxes you as you wait. They have free coffee and tea which is nice since I don’t drink coffee.
There is parking in the lot at the front of the building which is nice. I will update this review as needed.

I recently took my new adopted dog for our initial check up. Dr. Jones took the time to answer all of my questions. His assistants and all the staff were great. I think we have found our new vet!

We’ve had great experiences with the staff at Four Paws, and are glad we found them. They’ve been a great resource for us as first-​time dog owners, and have taken the time to answer plenty of questions as we learned about the best ways to care for our dog. They’re always ready to help when I call in. The best thing has been how they’ve followed up to every issue our dog has had, no matter how small. I’ve always gotten at least one phone call the next day after we visit their office to check on our dog’s symptoms, and often times they’ve followed up multiple times. That has made us feel like they are as compassionate about our pet’s well being as we are. And we’ve seen that compassion in the way their staff treats our dog in the office. Thanks for the great work, Four Paws!

I went here for the first time today with my dog. Wonderful staff and I trust the Doctor completely. And as an additional bonus — one of the tests I had done was ¹⁄₁₀ of the price that was done on my dog last week at VCA in West Seattle. Will be transferring all of my pets’ records here and will be going to Four Paws exclusively.
Four Paws will be my new veterinary clinic.

I’ve had dogs, sometimes cats, my entire life. I am retired, and had been using the same vet for 25 years. When she retired too, I was not sure where to turn; my friends and family with pets all live in different cities or way on the other side of town, so a simple referral wouldn’t do the job. I resorted, instead, to Unilocal.
Four Paws is a really good place. My daughter and I took the aging hound dog in for arthritis meds, a toenail trim, and (oh ick) anal gland expression. We were greeted warmly by reception, and a tech came out to talk to us. I was concerned about cost; the last vet closed quicker than she expected, we couldn’t get our vet records, I was concerned that Four Paws might want to see an x-​ray before agreeing to medicate him, and I didn’t want to pay for new ones. They were fine with that.
The vet we saw was Dr. Allison Miller. She was friendly, thorough, and very helpful. Chockie has allergies, but she had hypo-​allergenic doggie treats, an unexpected plus. While his toenails were trimmed (he is phobic about this), one tech lovingly held his head and I chain-​fed him treats, for which I was not charged, while the other trimmed the nails. Same went for the anal glands. My dog went into the clinic nervous, but before we left, he was sure he was in heaven!
The charge at the end of the visit was less than I would have paid on Cap Hill.
This clinic is ideally located from us, about half a mile from home. What a find! It is in a very doggie part of town, readily accessible to everyone within Mt. Baker, Seward Park, Rainier Beach, Columbia City, Leschi, Beacon Hill… really anyone in Southeast Seattle will find it very easy to get to, with free, plentiful lot parking on a relatively quiet street.
One word about accessibility. Many of us in the Boomer generation have developed disabilities, or even just arthritic soreness. I was pleased to find that this facility is on good, level ground. In the past I have insisted on having the one child left at home accompany Chocolate and me to the vet, because he has never gotten very good at not pulling at the leash, and the last vet had a steeply sloped lot so it was hard to get out of the car while keeping my footing with a dog at the end of the lead. Not so here. The front door is fairly heavy, but other than that it is very accessible for a slow-​walker with a cane. (Not sure about wheelchairs or walkers.) I did not expect the techs to pick my dog up and put him on the exam table for me, but they did it, and they were careful about his elderly spine when they lifted him, too. The seating in the waiting room is high enough for me to sit down on, and not hard to climb out of.
It was cool, comfortable, and the only other dog I saw while I was there was completely unafraid. No urine smell or stressed-​out pets.

My dog, a ten year old pug, went in for a dental cleaning, extractions and a growth removal. The procedure ended up being more complicated than expected. They were concerned they wouldn’t have the time to do everything but they were already going late so they took the time to finish everything they needed to do while he was under anesthetic. The hospital manager, Paige, stayed with my dog until ten pm and went the extra mile to get me taken care of with my care credit when I arrived to pick him up at ten. It was so late but she made sure to get my best interests looked after. I really thank all the doctors and staff that helped take care of my best friend. They really came through for us both!

I have been going to Four Paws for about 3 years now and have experienced some pretty tough stuff with my pets during that time, in addition to having two puppies seen there VERY frequently for puppy care and shots. First and foremost, my favorite thing about Four Paws is that they have a pretty big staff, so you can usually get a same-​day or next-​day appointment, and everyone is SO friendly. I also love that they have a lab on-​site. I had previously gone to a different vet in the area that did not have its own lab which created some anxiety trying to get prompt results from a life or death scenario with my cat. I would not have ever thought to consider a lab as a factor for a vet, but that is now my number one criteria. Additionally, Four Paws is really affordable compared to other vets in the area. The vaccines are really reasonable, as are the vet visits with the actual veterinarians. I’d like to mention Dr. Jones in particular — he has been our primary vet here and he is amazing. We had to put our 6 month old puppy down two years ago and he was so compassionate, professional and empathetic during the process. I could tell that he was affected and saddened by our loss which in some ways made it a little easier to go through. The whole staff (can’t forget about the techs — they are amazing!!) is wonderful and clearly loves animals. I can’t recommend the professionalism of Four Paws enough! Thank you!

Four Paws is totally out of my way, in a completely different neighborhood, 20-​something minutes away, and despite having several, more conveniently located vet clinics at my doorstep, I take my pets to Four Paws.
I have somewhat of a special needs dog– a nearly blind, skin-​problem suffering, kidney compromised, senior Yorkie. Four Paws provides me with everything I am seeking in a vet– a constructive, personable and compassionate experience with caregivers in which I wholeheartedly trust with the lives of my precious furry children.
Out of all the vets I’ve been to in the Seattle area, Four Paws has been by far my favorite.

As a new client of Four Paws, I was very happy with my visit under the circumstances. We had not yet established veterinary care in our new neighborhood when my elderly cat suddenly became very fragile and began shutting down last week. I called Four Paws and explained the situations, saying I felt her quality of life was very low and she may need to be put to sleep. It’s a very difficult call to make for an animal family member. I feel like I can’t even eloquently write the experience out. They saw us on Saturday at the end of the day, examined Gracie, my cat, and agreed that her quality of life had diminished. I had a slight hesitation of having my cat put to sleep in a vet clinic because they are often sterile, cold rooms; but, the room at Four Paws was so warm and comfortable, almost like a sitting room. No cold metal tables, but a warm wooden table covered with a cozy blanket for your beloved pet to lay on. Dr. Reed went over the procedure with us, answered all of my questions… He was very gentle with Grace, even after she passed away. He was kind to us. They let us stay in the room until we were ready to take her home. No one wants to make the decision to let their pet go, but as those experiences do, and you need a vet, I recommend Four Paws. I do plan to bring my other cat in to Four Paws for his annual visit and shots and care.

Just got home from our first visit at Four Paws, and my dog and I couldn’t be happier. I have a 13 year old pit bull with severe aggression toward other dogs. The logistics behind vet visits can always be a little tough for us, and as a super high-​strung dog mommy I’m usually on edge making matters worse. Not here. Dr. Miller and her staff (Alexis, and a tech whose name I didn’t catch — sorry!) knew exactly how to manage this with the understanding that her aggression doesn’t extend toward people. They did all of her labs — including her cystocentisis (needle-​in-​the-​belly urine collection) — without a muzzle and with me in the room. Yay.
They didn’t try to up-​sell me on anything which seems to be rare characteristic in the veterinary industry. Let’s be real: my dog is ancient and has a host of issues. We could’ve left with all sorts of superfluous add-​ons and an empty bank account. However, Dr. Miller made sure to tell me, a broke waitron, how best to prioritize the appointment and which issues were most important. All the while without seeming the least bit judgmental. I was especially impressed with her understanding why I haven’t had my dog’s tumors removed. I went in prepared to feel like a bad dog parent, but Dr. Miller got it — they haven’t changed, they don’t bother her, but most importantly I just don’t want to put her under anesthesia unless it’s life threatening. Double yay.
TL;DR — I highly recommend bringing your animals here (especially if you have a pit bull; they’re not just «comfortable» with them — THEY LOVE THEM!), and will be exclusively seeing Dr. Miller from now on.

Had our first visit to Four Paws today, they were wonderful… Just wonderful…
My pup Shine is very timid at vets, and new people (mostly men), but they were able to go slow, and made her as comfortable as possible, even with a male veterinarian. They were very thorough with everything. And also not pushy about add ones or anything, which is very appreciated.
Plus its a 20min walk from my house, so allows me to get my pups energy out while heading there. Its just perfect!

The staff is really nice from check-​in to check-​out. The receptionists are always nice. My first visit, the technician walked my dog around the block with me to catch a urine sample. They follow up by phone after your in-​house visit and show real concern for the well-​being of your pet. They will fill out your pet insurance forms. I don’t find them pushy about services like my last vet’s office, where I walked out feeling like I had just gone car shopping. I’ve seen two of the vets there, and they seem very competent and pleasant. I’m glad to have found this vet office.

I had a great experience at this vet center. The staff were very friendly, helpful and took good care of my girl, Luna. The Dr was very knowledgeable and reassuring. I highly recommend this vet clinic.

After some problems with my dog’s paws, I decided to visit Four Paws to get a second opinion from a previous vet that we’d used. I’ve only visited once, so I will keep my review updated upon future visits, but I was able to get in right away (I was able to snag someone’s cancelled appointment) with Dr. Reed and the technician Stacey. I instantly felt that we were in the right hands.
I am happy to say that Dr. Reed was comfortable and easy with my dog right off the bat (she can be afraid of men and is a large Staffordshire terrier, people can be afraid of them, even though all the Staffies and pits I’ve met are big balls of kisses). Both Dr. Reed and Stacey had her in a playful mood and on her back for belly rubs (!), which NEVER happens at the vet. This in itself was pretty impressive.
Dr. Reed took the time to familiarize himself with Amber’s file (we’d never been to this vet before, since moving to a new neighborhood), and noticed a previous ailment that could be connected with her paw problem. After 3 visits elsewhere, this was the first time someone had noticed this.
I felt that pricing was good, the front staff was nice, the offices are clean and conveniently located to other stores — hey, you can hit PCC on the way home! Alos, Four Paws has a parking lot, so there’s no trickiness parking.

I took my 3 yr old pup here for a urinalysis to see if she might have a UTI. I wasn’t thrilled to go here b/​c every time I’ve taken my pup for a check up or a health certificate for air travel they try to sell me pills, creams, and all sorts of over-​priced things we don’t need. As a first time dog owner, I fell for it a couple times and then decided no more.
So I took my pup in, gave them the urine sample and they said they’d test it and call me. They called me later that day and said they found crystals in her urine which was indicative of liver trouble and gave me a laundry list of expensive blood tests and liver treatments my pup would have to go through. They asked me to make another appt to get it started. Needless to say my heart sank and my stomach was in a knot.
The next day, once I could think more clearly, I made an apt at another vet (Rainier Veterinary Hospital) for a second opinion. While they can’t do a urinalysis there (they send out the samples) the vet said that it just didn’t make sense that my pup would have crystals in her urine because that is somewhat common in only about three breeds which my mixed breed pup does not have in her. Anyway, he recommended having it redone. He was really great and seemed to genuinely care. I paid for that check up and called Four Paws back. At first they said they’d charge me again for another urinalysis but after speaking with the office manager, she said they’d waive the fee. I took my pup back to Four Paws, they did another urinalysis and the results were normal!!! Turns out they had let the first urine sample sit out too long before testing it and it crystallized. OMdearG.
So, instead of Four Paws realizing either they had messed up the test and/​or it was odd that there’d be crystals in my pups urine and asking for a re-​do to double check their results, they were ready to start blood tests and liver treatments which is totally in line with my past experiences there, their recommending expensive and unnecessary treatments.
It was a quite a bummer to think that a vet would be more interested in upselling and making $$ than accurately checking out your pet and keeping it healthy. I won’t be going here any more or recommending them. The one up side is the receptionist and the techs are friendly.

I can’t say enough about how courteous, thoughtful and helpful the staff at Four Paws are. We’ve always had a good experience there and that’s why we continue to take our dog Pepper and cats Johnny and Donna; along with whichever animal we might be fostering at the time (Double FF).

I recently moved to Seattle and the thing I dreaded the most was finding a new vet for my dog Maple. I took a chance and went to Four Paws. So far, I have not been disappointed!
We have been a few times now but after our most recent experience I knew I had to write a review. Maple was really sick and throwing up all night. We didn’t know what was wrong, but we were so worried.
We took her to Four Paws first thing in the morning even though we didn’t have an appointment. We had to wait a little bit, but they managed to squeeze us in. Dr. Kevin Reed and the vet techs were all so awesome and kind. They ran a whole bunch of tests and were able to diagnose Maple’s issues in no time. They were also very upfront about the costs for all of the tests, which I thought was super considerate as most vets don’t tell you these things until after they do them.
Long story short, Maple was back to her old self a day later. Yay! Thanks Four Paws!
Oh, and one more thing: they always call and check-​in with you to see how your animal is doing the next day. I so appreciate that!

We have been getting our dog’s teeth cleaned about every 8 — 12 months since he was 3 years old, he is now 10. We switched to Four Paws about 1 year ago and they have cleaned his teeth twice. Both times he nearly died. This has never happened before. Both times they told us this was because he had a heart condition and needed to see a cardiologist, to the tune of about $ 500 just for the consultation, after the $ 800+ teeth cleaning that nearly killed him.
The most recent time this happened, we went to pick him up and the vet would not come out to speak to us, he made the vet tech bring our dog out. And I saw him there, so I know he was still in the office. They never mentioned the heart condition again. Just gave us our dog, took our money and sent us home when 4 hours prior they were calling us and telling us our dog might die.
Does he really have a heart condition? I don’t know. Is he just having a hard time with anesthesia because he is older? Maybe. But the 8 months prior to the first time this happened at Four Paws, he got his teeth cleaned at a different vet and there was no problem. And they never told mentioned any heart condition that required seeing a cardiologist. The fact that the vet wouldn’t come talk to us in person after the whole ordeal makes me not trust them.
Not going back there, ever.

The office manager at Four Paws, Paige, both called and wrote me to say she had read my review and was deeply concerned about what had happened. I’ve known both her and the founding vet, Dr. Perotti-​Orcutt, for years and Paige’s concern was not only sincere, but troubling enough for her to investigate the occurrences, run the staff through various what-​if scenarios and put some new procedures in place.
I think Four Paws had become so reliant on their previous super-​receptionist that they did not fully address any of the new employees’ readiness to handle all situations. The receptionist/​intake position is probably the most difficult and important job of all, so if things don’t go well at that point, everything falls apart. Paige has convinced me they are now ready and fully prepared for whatever comes their way, even if it’s to facilitate the transfer to an emergency vet.
In no way did I mean to disparage the vets and technicians of Four Paws. I’ve had excellent experiences with every vet that’s worked there and they’ve been just as caring and skilled as Dr. Perotti-​Orcutt. I was able to happily tell Paige that I got over my anger and yes, Four Paws is still our regular vet.
The important lesson is, in case of an emergency, don’t even think about calling or stopping anywhere, just go straight to your 24-​hr. vet that has the schedule, equipment and most of all the personnel to deal with your pet’s emergency. Figuring out who your emergency vet is and where they’re located is a critical part of being a good pet owner. Compile a short list, check out the reviews on Unilocal (I’ve written a few) and when you select your emergency vet, burn the information into your brain so it’ll be ready when you need it.
