Good Shepherd Center

This building and facility ar eoutstanding. Beautiful grounds– very well maintained. I have enjoyed many activities in many organizations ther eover the years — from garage sales with the Senior Citizen group to working at the Meridian School to volunteering at the Art School to going to a yoga studio there.
Entering the building gives one a feeling of awe– such a beautiful stately old building. The open public area in the lobby is welcoming.
It adjoins the Tilth grounds and demonstration gardens and the public Pea Patch Program. Much to see and appreciate.

This is my favorite neighborhood community center (sorry, the University Heights doesn’t hold a candle) in a beautiful old brick Victorian-​looking building surrounded by grassy grounds and tall oak trees. Not to be confused, either, with the Seattle Neighborhood Centers, which act as clearing house for programs and services run by the municipal government.
It also contains some of my favorite community non-​profit groups: C.G. Jung Center, Alliance Francaise, Seattle Tilth, Wallingford Senior Community Center, and others… there are also private professionals who rent space here.
The former chapel in the attic has been transformed into a performance space used by Jack Straw productions and other groups.

Not too far off N. 45^th but in a quiet sub-​neighborhood of Wallingford.
Very tall ceilings, wooden floors, huge windows… Many thanks to those individuals and groups that saved the Good Shepherd Center a couple of decades or so from either the wrecking ball and conversion to condos (although that would have been much better than razing the whole building).
This commanding neo-​Victorian building has been lauded as «an outstanding example of historic preservation» and was renovated with the help of Historic Seattle. See
