I had a great experience at Harold’s. The staff is very friendly and the store itself is beautiful. Kim was very helpful and made sure I left with the exact pieces I needed for my wall sconce. I will be back!

Not only does Harold’s always have what I need but the service is outstanding. I went in the other day to get a small light fixture part without the light mind you, and the young guy working there went in the back room and came out with this tiny bolt and said he thinks, by the way I described it, this is what I would need. He handed it to me free of charge and wished me luck. It worked like a charm ! I will be seeing plenty of them in the future !!

My parents had great service restoring and changing the electrical current (for US outlets) for a Venetian Chandelier from Europe. They did an amazing job. I broke a defuser for a halogen bulb and called the store. Upon arrival and seeing my broken apparatus they replaced it at no cost. They’re knowledgeable and professional. Would come again!

What an awesome experience at Harold’s! I walked in with a lamp I had bought at the Fremont flea market. Who I can only assume was the owner, comes right up and sees if he can fix my lamp right then. He was familiar with the type of lamp that it was and figured it wouldn’t be too difficult. He fixed the lamp, free of charge. He asked if I wanted a shade and offered to give me a number of discounts on various shades. I can’t express how impressed I was with all of the employees willingness to help me and saving me $ 50 on a formal lamp repair. If you are looking for repair or to purchase, I would definitely consider giving Harold’s a shot– it’s worth the experience!

Last week I brought in a lamp for repair. Incredibly fast and friendly service. I will come back to this wonderful place for any future lighting needs.

Omg– this place is ran by rude people. I came in and asked for parts to fix my lamp. Instead, this young men threw me with «No! We dont fix lamp and no parts available here!»
I have not even finished explaining the problem. So bluntly unprofessional!
I went to Seattle Lighting, they treated with respect and even got free parts!
Never ever go to this place!

Me and girlfriend wanted a lamp we fought about it for 2 years, we got a beautiful lamp and great service. Thank you we greatly appreciate everything you did for us.

This place was great. I worked with a very helpful sales girl who was very patient while I asked dozens of questions. She swapped out countless shades, harps and decorative screw toppers (don’t know the official name, ha ha) and helped me to piece together the perfect look for my vintage lamp. I found the perfect shade for me ready-​made, but it’s also nice to know that they make all of their shades in-​store and offered custom creations as well. I’ll definitely stop in for all my future lighting needs!

I had previously used a lamp repair shop on Greenwood and 65^th. But they moved and I did not know where. All I could remember was that the name of the business began with an «H». So I searched on-​line, and found Harold’s on 45^th, where I then took my antique floor lamp to be re-​wired and repaired.
When I got it back, it was more expensive than I thought it would be, but I took it home. At home I plugged it into the wall, then went to turn it on. THERE WAS NO ON/​OFF SWITCH !!! The lamp originally had a pull-​cord, but now it had nothing. Unbelievable !!! So I took it back to the store, and left it again to have the problem corrected.
I had to make 4 trips, with ridiculous parking options on 45^th (none), to finally get my lamp fixed and working again :(:(:(
Since then I have located HANSEN LAMP AND SHADE on Lake City Way — the ones originally on Greenwood and 65^th. I have been back to them with another antique lamp — they do an excellent job, are very customer service oriented, and returned my lamp WITH all the parts.
I DO NOT recommend Harold’s Lighting, but DO recommend Hansen Lamp and Shade on Lake City Way (they also have reviews on Unilocal.)

The tall/​torchiere first lamp while I entered the door appealed to me… but it was over $ 1,800 — I mean, seriously — unless you are a Kardashian or something — who the heck spends that kind of dough on a stupid *lamp*??? I’d quite frankly rather spend the $$ on a trip to Italy or something… The next tall lamp was… exactly the same — over $ 1800 — again, this is *NOT* Beverly Hills — this is Seattle (just in case people forget — where they have mostly re-​located to). Yes, lighting is important — but quite frankly I’d rather spend my $$ elsewhere — like at Lamps Plus or even Target have decent looking, similar types of lamps. They do seem to have a wide variety of «shades» — once again, if you are willing to shell out the dough, and their repair service supposedly is good — that’s the only reason I give it 2 stars.

Customers beware Harold’s Lighting is a family-​owned, family-​run business thought this was a good thing until I gave them my business. Used them on two separate occasions and both experiences were unpleasant.
My experience: 1) after three weeks with my lamp Harold’s called asking what work was to be done because they lost the paperwork/​job notes. 2) When I called Harold’s a week later I was told they have no record of my lamp ever brought into their store for repair and that «you» (the customer) made the mistake and must have taken the lamp someplace else. 3) After 6 weeks, I went to pick-​up my lamp the workmanship was shoddy and the job unfinished. When I complained I was met with minimizing, denial and blaming the customer. They refused to complete the work, fix their errors and tried to blame me for the shoddy workmanship saying that I caused the damaged while it was sitting on their table. They held my lamp hostage and demanded to be paid the full price.
My experience with Harold’s have been long turn over time for repairs, very poor customer service that comes with loads of minimizing, denial and blaming others not themselves for the errors that run rampant in both the Seattle and Bellevue stores.
The owner is the worst of all! He’s not shy to yell and threaten the customer.

WOW! Talk about lighting up your day! I stopped in to Harold’s Lighting with a lamp that needed repair. (I’d been carrying it in my trunk for days, awaiting time to stop in.) Thought I’d have to leave it and come back another day to pick it up. NO! They took a look at it and thought they might be able to fix it right away. (While they were checking I browsed their stellar selection of beautiful lamps.) In a matter of minutes, they’d FIXED my lamp!!! YOWZA! Good folks doing great work. Love it. Also love supporting local businesses and this is a gem.

I needed a unique light for a wine cellar I was adding to my house and came across this place. It’s not very often that I find a local, family owned store that I really favor. In theory is always prefer to shop local, but for many things it’s just not practical. There’s a trade off between price, service, selection and what’s just plain reasonable.
This is where Harold’s comes in for the win. Yeah, their prices are not the cheapest. If I want cheap I can go to Home Depot or Lowe’s or Amazon. But have you been there and tried to find a unique lighting piece? Not so easy. That’s what Harold’s supplies — the people and the selection. Helping understand the vision of what I needed and cut through the clutter of products plus ability to see the light before buying make this a place I’ll definitely shop again.

I recently moved to Seattle, and needed two lamps to be repaired — a Tiffany lamp that needed a new housing unit for the bulb and a lamp base that my movers broke. They were able to repair the Tiffany lamp on the spot — gratis! — and the lamp base was repaired much quicker than expected. Repairs aren’t cheap, but was well done and the front desk service was excellent! I highly recommend them and I’ll definitely return for future repair needs.

A relative’s toddler stood on our pool table and broke a glass lampshade (a bulb cover on the bottom of the fixture). The fixture has been discontinued so I thought it would be difficult to find a replacement. I worked with a very helpful person at Harold’s, corresponding by email. She was trying to track one down. It turned out to be an unsuccessful endeavor.
A few months later, I took another look at the manufacturer’s website. They had a new fixture that had the same size shade. I went to Harold’s to place the order. The person who «helped» this time couldn’t have been more rude and unhelpful. I was willing to pay whatever I had to to get the part. His first question: «Did you buy the fixture here». My answer: I don’t know. It was in the house when I bought it. Him: «I’m going to have to charge you way more than list price for this since you didn’t buy the fixture here. You probably don’t want to buy it from me». Me: «Gee, thanks. You didn’t even ask if I’m willing to pay your price, but I think I’ll be going elsewhere».
I called Seattle Lighting. Over the phone, they took my credit card and ordered the part. Reasonable price, no hostile attitude.
Screw Harold’s. Overpriced, rude, obnoxious. Don’t give them your business unless you enjoy being treated like an annoyance.

I recently purchased a halogen lamp from Goodwill but couldn’t get it to work. After unsuccessfully taking it apart, unable to find the problem, I brought it here. The young woman at the counter helped me put the lamp back together and fit the bulb, all free of charge. (Turns out you need to use a bit more force on halogens.) I would definitely come here again for lamp repair and purchases.

One of my elderly neighbors needed Alamo switch thing replaced on her old lamp and within seconds this nice lady replace it and didn’t even charge her for it! Great service!

We wanted to add some custom overhead lighting in our condo. Had the brand and system picked out. Needed an in-​home consult to seal the deal. Still waiting for our quote a month after the one-​hour visit. Two follow ups with Josh have been ignored. Guess we’re small potatoes.
Good thing they never billed the $ 100 house call fee.

Harold’s Lamps and Shades –I prefer to support independent businesses when possible, I don’t think I’ll be shopping here ever for a lighting fixtures. When I was here, there were fixtures strewn everywhere, with no sense of order or organization. Contemporary fixtures mixed in with Victorian, sconces with ceiling lights; it was just mass confusion to me.
The variety of fixtures, while plentiful and at a bargain, doesn’t help that if it’s disorganized, I cannot find the fixture that I’m looking for when I have to look at the entire store to look at all of the contemporary style fixtures. The lack of customer service or even a simple acknowledgement from the idling store representatives didn’t help matters.
Honestly, I would only go here if I felt like looking through an eclectic collection of light fixtures and I wanted to make an adventure out of it. But for me, time is my most valued resource, so I won’t be making a destination trip out to Harold’s to look at light fixtures.

The lamps inside are gorgeous. I would like to find and support a specialty shop like Harold’s (but that isn’t Harold’s). I like what specialty shops do for a neighborhood.
I’ve had one experience with Harold’s and they overlooked a very basic and obvious and important detail on my simple lamp repair… are you ready… wait for it…
No on/​off switch.

I’m supposed to turn off a table lamp by following the cord to the wall and pulling out the plug?
I had to drive all the way back to their shop from my home across town. The guy at the counter was all indignant and trying to minimize the incomptence.
They also said the other lamp we’d brought in was blown out (it wasn’t) so the ‘repair’ cost much more than it should have. (My husband dropped it off and didn’t know better…)
Be ready to stand your ground at the check-​out counter, btw. The gentleman working was quick to try to make the customers look like the jerks… when it was him with the odd behaviour and ungracious attitude.
If you do go to Harold’s, have your wits about you and your paperwork ready. Cooperation and courtesy is scant.
