It’s dirty, filthy even. It’s held together with duct tape and dreams. The«musicians» renting the spaces have no respect for any aspect of it. It smells like sweat, beer and piss. I’m sure something has died there. I love this place. I’ve practiced there in nearly every band I’ve ever been in in Seattle over the last ten years. The owners are friendly, but stern enough. I’ve never had anything stolen and it’s open 24 hours.(parking only available after 6) You may also have to work through several Pantera covers from down the hall as the sound proofing is nil, but it’s centrally located and has a loading dock with freight elevator. Also, the downstairs is a «medicinal» marijuana clinic… so…there’s that.

The owners of the Jam Box are really nice guys, but unfortunately that’s about all this place has going for it. It’s dirty… and I don’t mean the regular musicians leaving pizza boxes and beer cans around kind of dirty, I mean you don’t know if you’ll breath mold or the paint trying to cover up the mold when you go kind of dirty. There is no 24 hour access. Weekdays after 5pm, weekends after 3pm, and you gotta go home by 2am always(so convenient for after show load ins). This may be OK for musicians with day jobs, but can stifle creativity and flexibility of band members to get together. Security is «OK» with the front door being secured by a keypad, but it’s not hard to follow people in and slip past the front desk when nobody is there. I never had anything stolen, but I knew several people who did. The underlying drug activity ever present doesn’t give much confidence in the security of your gear either. And for the privilege of all of this you can expect to be put on a waiting list and pay Queen Anne rents once you finally get in… better be ready to share a room with another band.
