I haven’t been a member of Jefferson Park’s Lawn Bowling club(yet), but I do want to share my experience about their club from an outside perspective. My sweetie and I purposely went there one day to ask about lawnbowling. He thought it would be a sport that he would like to do. We talked to a staff member, and at that time, the league openings would have made Friday an appropriate day, and that didn’t work out schedule-wise. Back to the drawing board. As luck would have it sometime later, I was playing disc golf with a friend at Jefferson and we saw two guys lawnbowling, what seemed to be during off hours. We talked with them over the fence and they invited us in to play. Rad! They showed us where the bowls are kept. The bowls are heavy, slightly-flattened balls. One side is weighted heavier than the other, which means that when they are thrown down the lawn, you have to consider the speed and angle which you throw the bowl in order to get close the white ball«marker» at the end of the lawn. On principle, it is similar to curling, where you want your ball closest to the marker than anybody else. As warmer weather approaches, I’m going to try and join one of their lawnbowling teams. See their website for more info: I appreciated the warm welcome and impromptu tutuorial on how to lawn bowl from those guys; ‘hope I see them around!
