Usually get whatever little hardware needs from here. It’s a good local store to have. They also carry great gardening supplies. Can’t wait for spring

I went in to get Christmas lights for my kid who was with grandparents for the holidays. I wanted to make the house look magical for her return. I spent about 30 minutes looking for the right lights. sales person seemed annoyed that I wanted to test two strings of lights so I knew they would work. She didn’t even know the difference between cool and warm light (wow) I went up to purchase the pretty lights (68.00) only to realize I had left my card in another coat. Oh wait I have a check. I had ID (many forms) .the grouchy lady at the register just kept saying” they are very strict about checks” I understood I’ve written a check here before for propane.
«No sorry»
She just kept pushing check back to me.
Wtfudge?
So if there’s a policy to not accept checks. Then don’t say they are strict. Do I not look rich enough to spend 68 $ on my lights?
Her only response was
«We can hold them for you»
Not realizing that I couldn’t drive back out tomorrow.
I drove out of my way to not go to a box store and spend my money at a mom and pop.
So it looks like they don’t want our money or the desire to stay in business. I’m NEVER going back!

Closed 10 mins early. Raced over to get a quick light bulb. Typical small store… low income American carnage workers or high school kids can’t wait to get off so they close they store 10 mins early. Fuck off! Never again…

Location. Location. This is the only hardware store convenient to the Alaska Junction. Staff are knowledgeable about their products and are quick to point you towards what you’re shopping for.
Compact is the best word to describe the size of everything in the store (excluding the staff): parking lot, nursery, paint selection and tool assortment. They do have a little of everything you’d expect in a hardware store, though. I even noticed live ladybugs and praying mantis eggs on the way in. The cashiers seem to be a little dotty and the sound effect the registers make ringing you up make me check my phone for messages, but they’re always perfectly civil and patient.
I’ve visited this store on more than one occasion for odds and ends. Sometimes they have it and sometimes they don’t, but if you’re wanting more greenery-​oriented items, it’s worth your while to drive further south to West Seattle Nursery near Brandon Street. Still, I’m glad they’re here. They often save me a drive all the way to Home Depot for tools.

I just love this place. It’s a small store, but they pack A LOT in – including a pretty impressive garden dept. They have a great rewards program and regularly send $ 5 coupons, so we keep coming back. Whenever we need help, we can always find someone who is kind and knowledgeable. You really feel like you’re supporting a neighborhood business, and you are!

You won’t get service like this at the Home Depot! We just moved into the neighborhood and have visited True Value several times now. I love how friendly and accommodating the staff is, even on a crazy Memorial Day weekend. Also, the flowers here seem so much more healthy than other home stores. We will continue to be back!

There is a woman who «works» here who pretends to offer you help but her real job is to hit you up for their monthly drawing. If you make the mistake of signing up for the drawing you then will receive countless sales calls for a new roof, new windows, etc. Not only is she unhelpful (she doesn’t know where anything is), she is ungodly persistent; today she asked to help me while I was standing in line to pay.
I won’t come here anymore. I gave it one last chance because I haven’t been here for six months and figured she might be gone. Im shopping at Home Depot instead. These guys coast on the «shop local» ethos but, in my experience, aren’t helpful and are vastly overpriced. Sorry.

Best place EVER to get your holiday tree (and anything else you might need to tidy up the house). I love the positive folks that work at this place and how wonderfully helpful they are. I’m a loyalist to Junction True Value Hardware and will get my Christmas tree from them every year. Fair prices, beautiful trees and awesome employees.

No one is going to say that True Value is the largest or most popular hardware store in West Seattle. But it might be the friendliest and stocks a few things that Home Depot does not. One of those things is pet-​friendly organic fertilizer, kept in the back and not available any other place in town.

We love shopping here. We’ve found the employees to be knowledgeable and helpful. The selection has always been adequate, even though it is not a big box hardware store, and we found that the quality of items exceeds what we find for similar prices elsewhere. The only downside, and hence four stars instead of five, is the limited hours (currently 8 AM to 7 PM on weekdays.) An additional hour on either end would make shopping here much more convenient.

I used to live in West Seattle (Igrew up there) and am driving all the way over to True Value from Capitol Hill. I could go to Home Depot on First or Lowes on Rainier Avenue, they are both closer but I’ll drive to West Seattle for the Great Customer Service, just like I got when I called them on the phone a few minutes ago to ask if they had what I wanted. I’m new to the neighborhood and this was my first and last visit. I have such an appreciation of the «genuine, love my job, happy to help, experienced do-​it-​yourselfer associates», at my old True Value so maybe I set myself up to be disappointed.
Customer service with the associate I had to chase down was poor. When I couldn’t find what I needed after looking for some time, I went to look for an associate. I spied him down the aisle. As I approached within hearing range, as he was facing me and I him, I said «excuse me». Nothing. Excuse me three more times, louder as I approach closer. I know he has heard me beacuse at this point he turned away from me to avoid eye contact. As I was about to tap him on the shoulder, because now I am determined to be acknowledged, he looks up and says, «Yes?» I asked him to help me find toilet seat hinges. He blazed off in front of me.
When I finally arrive to the place he stopped. He points to a rack. I peer down. I guess I am too slow because he pulls it from the shelf and hands it to me. The product was generic, looked super cheap and flimsy. I asked if there were any more. He said, this is it. When I asked for clarification of this is all you have in stock or this is all you carry. He said it was all they carried. So cheap and flimsy or nothing? I’ll take nothing.
I did notice when the cashier’s lines were long, an associate did come over and open a new lane without being asked (hence the second star). So, I’m sure they got some decent people in there. But this was not enough to overcome the message that I was an unwanted pest who should be purposefully ignored because of… fillintheissuehere. Welcome to the West Seattle True Value.

I accept that the limited section is a consequence of its size, that’s not my issue. That does not justify the fact prices are often twice the competition (this is, after all, a True Value affiliate — not a mom and pop store) but that’s still not the issue.
The true problem is their decision to allow a sales rep for a local contractor to provide customer service on the store. Once she helps you find something you are pressured into signing up for a yearly raffle that puts you on a call list from the contractor that is nearly impossible to get off.
If you think this sounds petty come in on a Saturday and look around for a minute. You will be followed around until you stop, at which point she will start in on the hard sell.
Sure Home Depot sucks. But at least their employees aren’t trying to sell you vinyl siding after you leave.

New to living in West Seattle and needed a few things each day (2 days in a row). Several staff members recognized me and even joked/​asked if I was moving in. They are so friendly and helpful. If other stores had this level of service I would shop more! I will be back many more times! :)

I’m new to West Seattle and have been to this True Value and the nearby HD. No comparison on the level of service. I think TV has everything that HD has, just that they have a couple instead of dozens. The friendly, local staff set this store apart.

In an era of growing big-​box dominance, the local hardware store becomes an increasingly important niche performer. While Junction True Value Hardware is obviously limited by it’s floor space, in it’s market segment, it is simply the ‘né plus ultra’, that is, the best.
One of the smartest things JTVH did was recognize the value of more mature staff. Yes, there are some kids here (and they do great work), but the first thing that strikes you is that a large percentage of the staff is a bit older than what you’d expect to see, and, they are REALLY knowledgeable and good at what they do. JTVH also ensures that there are enough folks working the floor, so you can readily find someone who can help you with a question, recommendation, or just find something. Compare this to the nearby Home Depot on Delridge, where a necessary shopping accessory when you go there is to take along a tranquilizer dart gun, some duct tape and zip ties, so you’ll be prepared to bag the ever-​elusive sales help. The staff at JTVH also is old enough to remember the value of good old-​fashioned courtesy, and they pass on that style of superior customer service to the younger staff members.
THE VERDICT: Convenient location, superb service, and a reasonably good selection of the things you need — now — for your home project make Junction True Value Hardware your first stop for hardware.
If you don’t support good local guys, you won’t keep ‘em, so get over there!!!

This is one of the gems in the neighborhood. The customer service is great, like every one else is saying. You can find someone right away, and they know the answer to your question.
But the most surprising part of this store is the inventory. It is just SMART. They have limited shelf space, and they cater to DIY folks and real homeowners, not contractors.
Examples of stuff I found here that I could NOT find at Home Depot or Lowes:
* Simpson Strongtie brackets for attaching deck posts (U-​shaped)
* large white pads for scrubbing tile
* stair gauges
* short tile scraper with a handle on top
OK, so they actually had stair gauges at Home Depot — but that’s not much good when the guy in the tool section says they don’t stock them, is it? I saw them there the next time I went by.

hey– i love mom and pop shops, and yes– True Value isn’t necessarily a mom and pop, but it really feels like part of the neighborhood. You’re gonna pay a little more, but the folks are familiar and generally friendly and helpful. A great neighborhood store? A True Value…

Price and selection not great though. And no lumber.
Good selection of grade 8, stainless and metric fasteners.
Close proximity and their coupons keep me coming back.
