I have been coming to Kinesia Pilates for approximately 9 months. I literally knew nothing about pilates before that time and am now so incredibly happy that I started doing this. The people at Kinesia really make it a great experience. As a total newb, they were very patient with me. I’ve made it through that phase and have gained a lot more confidence. I’m still learning each day but I’m so much stronger! RAAWR! I’m currently going 5 – 6 times a week and am finding it to be the best exercise experience of my life. I’ve had many personal trainers and spent a year or so doing Crossfit and this totally blows those methods away. Personal trainers seem bent on working your legs and arms, while Crossfit is simply too dangerous. I recently re-tore my ACL doing something really stupid at Crossfit. It’s just too easy to want to please your trainer and to compete with other members. No thanks. Most of my early training was with the owners Christl and Gay, and lately I’ve been working with Whitney and Laurel. Whitney seems to make me work the hardest out of the four, which I actually love. Laurel seems to have the most experience, and one of the most fun to work out with. I really can’t say enough great things about the staff here, they’re all fantastic! Highly recommended.

Once upon a time I ran all the time. I got super fat in a miserable marriage, and then I literally ran that shit off. Yay for me. Funny thing happens when you run all the time, however — you totally fuck up your body. Yes, it might be all tight and all your clothes fit real nice and stuff — but your hips, lower back, knees, feet are probably going to wind up becoming a crooked, knarled mess. No silly little Vivram toe shoe things, or Chi Running practice, or handful of Advil Liquid Gels is going to stop that from happening. What will stop that from happening is incorporating Pilates into your gig — a couple mat classes a week and I am strong and straight again, thanks to Christl! We focus on breathing and posture and building my powerhouse so I can carry my body for all the miles I still have left to run. Also, my ass is remarkable — Pilates Ass trumps Running Ass. The studio is tranquil and soothing, filled with light and warmth… and literally any bus or train will get you within 3 blocks. Also your feet and your bike will get you there, and there’s usually parking right in front if you insist on driving. GO.

I love this little Pioneer Square Pilates studio so much that I now have an unlimited monthly pass to their mat classes and finally decided to join a co-working office that’s a few blocks away. I started with one mat class pass at the end of July and really enjoyed that first class, so I decided to get the monthly pass for August… and then I decided to get another one for September. I love that the mat classes are at noon twice a week and that they just added an evening class and a weekend class. I will probably never make it to the Saturday class because I don’t live in Pioneer Square, but the other days are perfect. Two lunch-time classes a week and one after-work class! I don’t have any experience with the apparatus classes or private classes, but the group mat classes are great and I love the ladies who usually teach them(Christi and Whitney). There are usually 3 – 6 students present and the instructor always does a great job helping/adjusting anyone who is struggling with anything. Sometimes, they have two instructors present so one can focus on leading the class and the other can walk around the room and help the students. I also like that sometimes we just use the mats and our bodies and other times we also use small weights or the Pilates Ring or other things. All of the equipment is available at the studio, so you just have to bring yourself and some socks. The other pretty cool thing is they work on different parts of your body each time and while there are many standard exercises, it seems like we do something new each time. I’ve actually been«getting aware» of muscles I never knew about because it seems like a new muscle is sore after each class. They have a space for your belongings and two changing rooms, but no shower in the studio. The bathroom that’s shared with the other businesses on the third floor(or is that the second floor bathroom? I’ll have to check!) does have a shower, but I have never tried using it. Most people just get dressed quickly and go back to work. Love, love, love. Can’t wait to take another class!

I found the Kinesia studio through a Groupon and I am so glad I did. The Pioneer Square location is convenient and I enjoy the loft like vibe of the space. Most importantly, the instruction is excellent. This is traditional Pilates with two teachers who clearly excel at teaching and personally practice Pilates. Gay is so patient with me and with consistent workouts each week, I am seeing change in my body. I can’t praise Kinesia enough! I also recommend one or two private sessions before you begin the Foundation classes.

I can’t say enough about my experience at Kinesia. I signed up for one of their specials for Unilocalers about a month ago. I am a runner and recently injured my groin. I was hoping this would help heal my injury and balance out my workouts. Christl, the owner, is just the most wonderful person and made my experience comfortable yet challenging. She tailored my workouts to my needs. Her studio is very attractive and relaxing. It really is a great atmosphere. It is amazing how much better I feel after Pilates, I am hooked. I highly recommend her!

Christl is awesome(and adorable). I surveyed several Pilates studios before settling on Kinesia and have never regretted the decision. Christl melds her vast experience from numerous disciplines into a single, Pilates based routine that is never«routine». I’m a very goal oriented person and tend to exercise regularly only if I have something specific to work towards like a mountain peak or a race. I got into Pilates because I was looking for a background exercise to «come home to» when I was between physical projects. I have been extremely happy with the results. It’s not just about getting strong(although I want that too). For me, it’s really about training my body to respond accurately and correctly to my intent. Pilates trains your entire nervous system, from your brain to your little toes, to work together to maximum effectiveness. Whether you’re completely out of shape or just looking to improve your developed sports performance, Pilates will give you a more effective(and better looking) body. A final word about Christl. You won’t get a cookie cutter routine with her(even if you asked for it; I don’t think it’s in her). Every class(even the group ones) will be custom tailored to your goals, your motivation, and your current physical state(right down to how you are feeling that very day). She starts every class by «checking in» with her students so that she can provide them with the most effective routine. I look forward to every class.
