Found it as I drove by, and it was just perfect! When the owner handed me my falafel sandwich, I was delighted with what I saw(he’d prepared it right before my eyes), and said, «Wow, you really look like you know what you’re doing!» He flushed with pride, and said, humbly, «It’s been many years.» I ended up with lovely drippings all over my lap(should not have eaten lunch in my car!) and with lovely memories, as well! Though the atmosphere is lacking — the place is boxy, with warehouse-type lighting, the prices are divine, and I’ve never had a better falafel sandwich!

i can’t belive this guy does it all by himself! much tastier and much friendlier than the folks at the gyrocery on the ave. minus one star only for the inferior fries.

i’m sorry to go against everyone else’s review but i really wasn’t impressed. one star for edible food and one star for a pretty clean place. …while the chicken in my chicken shawarma was well seasoned, it wasn’t all that impressive a shawarma sandwich. …i was also expecting some raw onions in my sandwich… not overly grilled ones that lack taste and testure(he needs to learn from the paseo folks!). the husband ordered a falafel plate i tried a piece of his falafel. DRY! i looked over at the hummus on his plate. DRY! i will say, the husband liked his plate so… but he can write his own bloody review :) i don’t know… the food didn’t impress me one bit. the owner/guy behind the grill didn’t impress me one bit. he didn’t shoot one smile the entire time we were there even though we were there at peak lunch hour and we were the only ones at the restaurant the entire time — maybe we just caught him on a bad day or something… but i’m a smiley person; and so is the husband… when asked what he would recommended, as he hmmm and ahhed with no answer at all, we decided independently and got what we did. not coming back here.

Can’t add much to what’s already been said. Some dishes are served with a green salad, which is dressed with olive oil and lime – SO good. Ask for the spicy stuff on top of your hummus. I’m not a fan of eating there, esp. when the owner is in a pissy mood(one night he was barking at his hapless assistant – ugh). The baklava is delish. Try it, you’ll like it!

I was a little worried about walking into Bill O’Reilly’s kitchen. Holy crap! Did I just say that? Anyways, I was very happy when I ate here. I did not see Bill O’Reilly inside, but I did find some delicious food. I had the chicken shwarma sandwich special that comes with fries… I mean steak fries, and a soda. The chicken in the shwarma was very flavorful and the sandwich was packed with it. The steak fries were damn good as well. It was a lot of food, and I almost didn’t finish it. That is always a good thing. Zipzap Zubidy Bop!

Very good food in a tiny space, formerly the home of the nearby Kebob House(which took the space that once belonged to Arita). Great sandwiches and salads, kebob mashwy, etc. The owner had to go to the convenience store next door to get my diet coke, but otherwise it was all great. They claim to have Sunday hours, but they never seem to be open when I go over to the Greenwood branch library on the next block.

Setting the scene: A bit over a year ago I spent some time backpacking Europe and then settled down in Berlin for a few months to attend school. The plot: While in Berlin, I lived in a Turkish neighborhood. Everywhere, and I mean evvvverywhere, are DONERKEBAB stands. Definition: SMALL restaurant, a spit with dark meat spinning by a flame and tons of fresh veggies to pile into your doner. I probably ate a doner 4 times a week while I was there. Filling and only costs $ 3.50 or so. The review: So I am now back in the U.S. And I’ve been searching high and low for something that even matches the taste and quality of the doner. I was working in this area and was dragging my feet from work, so I needed a pick me up. I went about 4 pm on Friday and ordered a beef/lamb gyro. Holy kazaam. This was delicious. About $ 5, and when I unwrapped the outer paper, I was AMAZED at the amount of meat on it. Below the piles of nicely cooked and seasoned meat was a good amount of lettuce, onions, yoghurt dressing and spices. All of this was wrapped in a warm pita. The owner was extremely nice. My order was done in under 10 minutes and everything was fresh. I couldn’t ask for more. Make the decision: try something new and delicious or spend the same amount of money of a burger and fries. Hmmm easy choice!

OHMY! I have passed by this place for years and finally went inside on my way home from work one afternoon about four months ago. I ordered«to go» for my household’s dinner. While my food was cooked to order, I was served a fabulous cup of lentils(not even on the menu). I’ve been back a few times since then and have never been disappointed. In fact, Ahmed keeps things interesting by cooking from SCRATCH(does anyone remember what«real» cooking tastes like?). One day I can order a gyro and it’s more traditional Mediterranean tasting(lettuce, tomato, yogurt, etc.) and the next day it’s a gyro with shredded cabbage, carrots and spices like nutmeg, etc. The restaurant itself is a bit of a dive(there were ants on the floor under my table on one visit) but I still LOVE the feel of the place. Cons: Service is slow(poor Ahmed works by himself and juggles serving, cashiering, and busing with the cooking). Small eating area — don’t take a group here or even expect to get a table for two. Pros: Everything else! Great prices, FABULOUS food, personalized service with pleasant complimentary surprises from time to time, and a unique experience for the taste buds!

If you are like me, you have fond college memories of leaving the tavern at bar time in a drunken haze, stumbling to the nearest late night Mediterranean joint and eating a gigantic gyro. The next day you are severely hung over, spent way too much money, was too much of a wuss to hit on that mysterious brunette from the bar and still taste that gyro you ate.(even though you have brushed your teeth twice since then.) I’m now in my late 20’s and after today, discovered that eating a shawarma, sober at lunchtime is not only much more satisfying and delicious, it also kind of makes me think I’m getting a little more mature and(dare I say) sophisticated in life. Being the ignorant American that I am. I’ve had no idea what a shawarma was and never really ate Middle Eastern food before. But after listening to Adam Carrola rant about how he likes shawarmas on his radio show on Thursday, I decided to seek one out on Friday for lunch. The restaurant is jammed in between a strange teriyaki burger joint? and a run down convince store right next to the Greenwood library. The inside is nothing special, cheesy ancient Egypt décor lines the walls with old National Geographic magazines strewed about. I ordered a $ 6.00 chicken shawarmas to go from the friendly owner and it took about 5 minutes to be made. If you’ve never had a shawarma before, it mainly consists of a thin pita wrapped around grilled onions, tomatoes, a wonderful dressing of sorts that I assume was warm hummus and pan-fried chunks of marinated white meat. A perfect amount of olive oil and other various spices complemented it nicely. It was damn good and I’m so happy to have discovered this excellent food. I’ll be back there soon and will be sure to order the combo. And who knows, maybe I’ll make it a point to walk over there in a drunken haze someday and order a shawarma. Note: will have to start drinking early given the 9PM close time.

This is a special place for me. The shawarma is my favorite, though everything is wonderful — I have now become a weekly customer. Why not take the time to order some food(Shawarma? Fatowish salad?), stop by the Greenwood library 30 feet away and walk back for your food. The next door 7 – 11(the only one I know where they play classical music) makes King Falafel ideal for quick food matched with 2 worthy neighboring locations. The baklava is homemade by Egyptian chef Ahmed, and it it is truly excellent. Don’t be fooled — this is the best of the Greenwood gyro shops. Truly.

This is the most authenticand best tasting humus ever! The food is great, but the best is how friendly the owner is. A great place to sit down, chat, have some arabic coffee(strong) and enjoy the food.
