The good news is that – since it opened its doors about three-some years ago – Klondike Penny’s has not only held fast as the best«old-timey photo parlor» experience in downtown Seattle, but has flourished to the point where it’s practically a staple of the Pioneer Square neighborhood. The shop is gorgeous, their boutique items are eccentric and always fascinating, and the gals who handle the camera duties are always a hoot to work with. The downside – if it can be called that – is that the place has also become VERY popular, likely as a result of excellent word-of-mouth and their sterling customer service. As such, the more casual«touristy drop-in» aesthetic has given way to a need for booking appointments, which I feel might surprise folks who are used to the more«fly-by» fashion of visiting these kinds of establishments: as a word to the wise, you may want to call ahead(Especially during the summer months and weekends), but you sure as heck won’t regret taking the time to do so.

My wife and I came here for part of her birthday present and had a blast. We made a reservation over the phone and they were ready for us right right on time. We looked over some photo books and we were off to the races! Our first costumes were very classy high society. I got some awesome wireframe glasses, a gun, and I got to be Michael Jackson with only one white glove on. Rockin’. Plus, I had a sweet cane too.(see pictures) My wife was ecstatic to be dressed an one of those huge hoop dresses with the nice feather hat. In my opinion, I look way better than she does(modest at its finest). Second time around we went a little more low class. I got a sweet mustache and a pistol instead of a rifle, some awesome gold miners pants and boots. Wohoo. I looked right scoundrelish! The staff was incredibly nice and gave you a bit of an old timey feel while at the same time making it easy to get things done. If you didn’t have a clue what you wanted they could easily turn up costumes in minutes(as we saw them do for the people before us). At the end of the session they threw all our pictures onto a CD for ease. You can pay with any credit card using Square which is really nice. If you prefer, they also take cash. It’ll run you about 20 bucks a person per costume and comes with maybe 5 – 10 pictures per costume. Highly recommend. Will be back!

This was so much fun! I came with some out of town friends and the five of us got a shoot together. The staff is incredibly friendly and you can tell they’re having fun with you. They’re in character a lot too. I had fun crossing as some sort of madame and they helped me into a corset which was a new and exciting experience. Our group went with a Deadwood theme, which I’m not familiar with but I think we pulled it off? At least someone on facebook who saw the photos was able to recognize what we were going for. The whole process was incredibly easy, and we had a bunch of great photos. Everyone picks a costume, they help you in and give you props, and then take photos of you both indoors and outdoors. I think we ended up paying about $ 22 each for the session and a CD with all our photos which seems fair to me.

My honey and I had a blast getting our photos taken here. The clothes were great(and there was such a variety of fun stuff to wear!), the gal who worked with us was sweet and friendly, and the shop is really neat. We LOVED our photos, and the whole thing was fast and not expensive at all($ 10 each person, $ 10 for each printed photo). I highly recommend this place, and will be back for more photos!

I find it amusing that almost every time I travel with my friend we end up getting these old time photo’s done! This has to be one of the best studio’s we’ve been to. The lady who did our photos’ was really helpful and friendly. The clothing she chose for us was almost perfect, we’ve had some really shitty customes before for these photos — and I have to say, the clothing chosen for us looked very realistic! Awesome :) She was a great photographer and it was fun! Pretty good price too, for a lasting memory. Love this place, if I’m back in Seattle I’ll come and get another one of these done.

Seattle’s best kept time machine. An amazing journey into the Victorian Northwest. Your host, Dame Joanna, will wow and amaze you with her hospitality and fashion sense. You will be promptly dressed as a dandy or desperado, a lady or whore. You will then be posed professionally and derrogotypes will be exposed! You can buy bloomers, corsets, antique shoes, and various Victorian accessories. I tell you, this place is a riot and not to be missed!

Great place to get your Old Time photograps taken while visitng Pioneer Square. Joanna is the BEST! She had great ideas for us and was very accomodating; even she was dressed in a period piece! It took no tme at all to get dressed, posed and pics taken. She needed a short time to work on the digital images for us to approve so she sent us to Seattle’s oldest establishment; Merchant Café( ) it’s clearly had a few names; for aq cold one while we waited. Cool place too. When we returned she had our pics ready to approve. We bought one to take with us and also an electronic copy which she emailed to us right then. Stop by and get your picture taken the next time you are in Seattle; you won’t be disappointed!
